didn't Jesus say, "turn the other cheek" "remove the beam from thy own eye before attending to the mote in thy neighbor's eye" "judge not lest ye be judged" Now if he'd been advising the Romans, he might well have said that it was okay for them to indulge their anger and thirst for revenge, since it would feel good; and after all, the Jews were going to be just as angry with them regardless of how badly they were treated. |

Jesus was actually preaching to the potential terrorists. Rome was using its military might to subjugate the Middle East. Jesus advised them against resisting. The Christians went on to become the domininant force in Western politics for two thousand years. Modern day terrorists would do well to study his teaching. Now if he'd been advising the Romans, he might well have said that it was okay for them to indulge their anger and thirst for revenge, since it would feel good; and after all, the Jews were going to be just as angry with them regardless of how badly they were treated. This seems strange and conflicted on many points. First, depending on who you listen to, Jesus was, in fact, radically calling for the overthrow of the Romans. Far from encouraging against resistance, he urged people on -- though perhaps more as a Gandhi figure rather than advocating an IRA-style revolt. I agree, though, that if Palestinians, for example, were to follow the example of Gandhi rather than doing what they do today, they'd have all they want and then some by now. What would Romans have to feel the need for revenge for? They were pretty bloodthirsty as they were, and yeah, the Jews would have been angry at them anyhow. They always were, against anyone who came marching through. _____________________

They want to give him an HONORABLE burial. I think it's a perfectly reasonable request, it's just that it came a week too late. If they'd voiced the request just a little sooner, al-Zarqawi could have returned on his own, they could have buried him honourably and we'd all be happy. |

Well in a perfect world violence does not beget violence. But as the bible says, an eye for an eye. The Bible doesn't say that. The Code of Hamurabi says that. ![]() _____________________

The Bible doesn't say that. The Code of Hamurabi says that. ![]() It's also in Exodus... "Any eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth..." We used Shock & Awe for recruiting tactics. I thought that's what America's Army was for ![]() _____________________

It's also in Exodus... "Any eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth..." I stand corrected! Wow that Bible is just a real piece of work huh?
