Funerals are for the living, not the dead. Why further the cycle of violence by punishing them for his actions?

No, we thought that we'd caught him, and _might_ have tagged him at least once but it was never conclusively confirmed. This time, we got him, and identified his body. The DNA will confirm. That's all they get, as far as I'm concerned -- no freakin' SHRINE.

He wasn't any sainted martyr, he was a power-hungry, bloodyhanded THUG.

Imagine this scenario: a man punches me in the face.

Which of these two possible responses will rob him most of his satisfaction and his standing amongst his peers:

1: I punch him back, starting a fight, showing myself to be as vile and barbaric as he is.
2: I do the whole Jesus thing, turn the other cheek, and show that I'm above his kind of anger and violence.

Give the family the body and they'll respect America and the ideals of common decency for which it (presumably) stands. And right now, you can do with a few more people like that.

*strips sentence of snark carefully* I don't think that it's wise to want to further damage the image of America among those who are undecided by keeping a dead man's corpse. Yes, the undecided exist. Yes, it serves us very well not to increase animosity among them.

I'm not sure why it seems like such a good idea to some to further provoke a populace that is already viewing us with disfavor, but hey, if it's not your ass personally on the line...

Go to work five days a week, pay my taxes, filled out the jury duty questionnaire. Keep my lawn reasonably tidy, register my vehicle each year, don't eggregiously disregard the speed limit, vote in most elections (don't follow the school board, so sue me).

I'm trying to figure out precisely how a person decides that violence should beget violence, and how hypocrisy is a good thing, and how causing harm to others makes them somehow better than the people who inspired it. Or are you not interested in being a good person, or even decent? If so, why?
