From: Kiefer Belvedere I hope it comes back up sometime this evening. I'll bet that if SL was completely down earlier, it's probably just flooded trying to handle all the people trying to sign in again.
On a related note, I'm having another issue with my copy of SL: Every once in a while, when I try to login, the game freezes at "Preparing Inventory" - the program gets marked as "Not responding" and I have to force-quit it to regain control. This happens randomly, and when it does, I never get back to the sign-in screen or get an error message.
Has anyone else run into this as well? Yes! It happens to me all the time. I have no idea what it is, but dont feel bad because you arent alone. I continue to try and log on and sometimes i even restart. It fixes the problem but every now and then its jsut random. I don't know what causes it but i sent in a support thing today, but the support people are off. You should too, and hope to get a reply on Monday.

people are hammering the server, so if it was a minor fix, its just getting worse.

This happens randomly, and when it does, I never get back to the sign-in screen or get an error message. Try this: 1. Clear the cache. Specifically, delete all files in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\SecondLife\cache. Substitute your own Windows user name where it says User Name. And make sure your Windows folder settings allow you to view hidden files. 2. Defrag the hard drive. Edited to add: note that this will not help with the current inability to log in, which is a server side problem. It will help with the more common startup freeze during Inventory loading, if you're getting that when the servers are running normally.

That's indeed frustrating. The first time I ever logged into SL, there was downtime too. It made me impatient. Have you already read all the threads that came before yours? Your questions will be answered within. You should know that yes, the Lindens are indeed reading the Forums, and posting Announcements as they come. You also know, I hope, that without the Lindens, there would be no Second Life. So, please consider being more gracious and support them in their efforts to get things fixed. That'd be the most helpful thing to do.
