Uhuh. 1.5.8 dun work.

My only reply so far from emails to Tech Support at LL has been to ask me if I have upgraded my drivers.

I have the latest drivers on each and every part of my system. AND - I had absolutely no problems with SL before this latest "update". At least one Linden has acknowledged there is/was a problem. I would hope they let us know when they resolve the issues on their end.

With so many of us having issues, it's not really reasonable to expect personalized replies from tech support. I know this situation sucks (believe me, I'm on crash #3 in the last 10 minutes - I'm kinda ticked) but they always bring out a fix within a few days to address the big problems.
Haney dropping buy to tell us they have people working on it gives me a lot of hope. They've got some great bug hunters at LL, but they need a little time to do their magic.

Ok - I was doing just fine with 1.5.8 - no crashes to desktop, things moved fast -

BUT just now I tried to teleport and found I was frozen - so I logged out as I normally do when such a thing happens.

I go to Log back in and find they have put in a patch.
Version 1.5.8.3 is there and to log in you must download it.

Well Ok I think - they are fixing the Crash to desktop issue the other people were having. So I dl it and log in.

I try to teleport- Low and Behold- now I crash to desktop - something I have never done in SL since I started.

So - Rofl - rather than fix the crash to desktop issue - they have decided to spread it around to those of us who never had it. WooHoo

I will try it again - but if I crash to desktop again I am off to play Worlds of Warcraft -

Oh, for those curious the release notes for 1.5.8.3 are :

"Fixed colorization of system/object/resident chat. Also chat console background color preference slider haas been replaced with a simple checkbox."

The new required download seems to have fixed it!

It has a different way of getting rid of that ugly gray chat background. I wonder if that was the problem?

YAY ... another upgrade

now I can teleport just fine and then just randomly crash or freeze at random moments. and still my replies from tech support are useless and no answer from any bug reports. at least live help will tell me honestly that a lot of people are having the same issues.

I am pretty close to putting my private island up for sale and tiering down to nothing - this is ridiculous.

Well - hope the latest (3) update helped some people out - didn't do much for me. And I crashed once in the past two months on SL with the versions they had - everything was fine up til this 1.5.8 upgrade, so they can tell me anything they want about my drivers - that obviously isn't the problem.

Okay... I solved my problem earlier today.

I have Norton Internet Security on my system. Since people kept saying it might be the firewall, I started snooping around. With previous updates, my firewall has given me feedback that it is not letting the program run, and I've had to manually configure it. It didn't with this one. So I went into the firewall configuration, program controls. I saw that there were many instances of SL there(about 10 or so), and they were al set to permit except one. It was set to "custom", but it would not let me change that. So I came out of there, uninstalled SL, then went back into the firewall programs control. I removed all instances of SL. I re-installed SL, and set the configuration on the firewall for the one instance of SL. I have only had one crash tonight since I did this earlier today(about 4-5 hrs in-world), and that was the first time I teleported.

So... I don't know if it will help anyone else with their problem, but it's one more thing to check. Good luck everybody, hope your problems are solved soon too.

Well, for no apparent reason, on my third reinstall of the old 1.5.8 - I haven't redownloaded for the updated version yet - I stopped crashing on tp. In fact, yesterday I tp'd more than I've ever tp'd before while I was flitting round the world putting vendors out. And it was the most agreeable tp'ing experience I've actually had in a year of SL...

...so when Dan asked me if I was still crashing, I said no, I was fine now.

And then 10 minutes later I found out that if I change perms on anything in my inventory, I crash to desktop...

*cry*

Yup, this happened to me last nite. I couldn't stay in Sl more then 5 min. *sigh*

We having fun yet.

I asked Speed to tie me down in hopes of it keeping me in SL (yea, let's stick to that story *giggles*) before he was able to grab some rope *poof* I was gone again! Finally, I just gave up. I haven't even attempted to get in today yet *sigh*

That's Good! My record log in time is two minutes!
