i've Updated My Graphics Card To Radeon 9200 Se Family. But I'm Still Getting This Message. Everything Else Is Up To Date On Pc What operating system do you have? If it's Vista, do a search for Vista in this forum. The combination of SL, ATI, and Vista has been known to have problems. Make sure that you have the latest video drivers. Go to ati.com and verify that you have the latest drivers installed. If the ATI drivers are current and it's still not working, you can also try Omega Drivers. Omega drivers are current and work well for ATI cards. |

When you installed your updated drivers did you delete the old ones first? If I remember correctly when I first came to SL my old computer had a Radeon 9250 and I has some minor issues. I updated my drivers and still continued with the problems. I then remembered something I read (probably on Kim Kommando's site) about deleting drivers before installing new ones. I did that and SL worked great on that machine until the day I took if offline for the final time.

Well, well... this answers a question or two. I've been trying to resolve this problem too - I thought it was my new monitor causing a conflict. Nothing has changed but the monitor - and suddenly I couldn't get SL to start.

When you downloaded the new graphics drivers, did you remove the Catalyst programme first before installing? This is what ATI advise on the installation notes. I assume you do have the latest Catalyst version?
Have you read the threads about turning off VBO in preferences? A ATI 9200se is really the bare minimum GC to use for SL, with the new render pipelines introduced in the new Client Viewer, it will stress out your system, potentially causing overheating of the graphics chip. Try turning every graphic detail down to its minimum and uncheck 'check hardware'. Start SL (assuming you can) and see what sort of performance you are getting, then if it is ok, turn up certain features in small increments. You may have to live with a semi-crippled viewer until you upgrade. Almost forgot, install the .NET Framework upto version 3.0 and the latest DirectX drivers, you can find these HERE ... .NET Framework version 2.0 is on the main page, but do a search for version 3. _____________________

If you are on a Desktop PC, it might not be a bad idea to think about updating your video card then. You can get an Nvidia 6600 for real short money, and an Nvidia 7600 is not much more.

Ok to answer you question in my thread I have an nVidia 7800GS so my drivers will not help you. Try a system restore to a point before you had troubles. That is how I fixed my problem.

This is the error message I was getting. I believe a few of you had the same problem.
![]() I knew my drivers were pretty current, and my video card is a BFG 7900 GTOC which is plenty for SL. What it seems to be the problem at least for me is my graphic hardware acceleration got set None. I almost believe this happened when I crashed in SL then restarted SL. This is a step by step instructions in how I fixed it:

Frustrated also
05-06-2007 23:50
I to am getting frustrated with crashes. I had an Acer comp with an AMD processor, 512 ram, Radeon 9250 gfx card and apart from the odd crash it ran SL like a charm. I thought Id buy an ever better comp and give my other one to a friend who is a new SL member.
My new one is an Asus P4, Intel processor with a Radeon 9600/X1050 card, and 1gb ram. However, I can't stay in SL longer than 5 minutes now before my comp totally locks up, needing a hardboot from the button on the tower. This is dam annoying and hard on my new computer. Ive tried:--- -reloading the driver and the ATI catalyst several times (yes I removed the prior copy first) -deleting and reloading the SL client. --altering the VGA settings...none worked --Emailing tech support, I have had a couple of replies but several weeks have passed since I sent them the diagnostics they wanted. Im now using my partners cheap laptop with a nondescript card, and while its not so crash-hot on graphics it at least works. (My ex-computer is still running SL like a charm btw---dammm!!!!) |

i uninstalled and reinstalled several times, but still get the error Chrissy when you are deleting SL, are you deleting all the folders that don't get deleted when u uninstall sl? If not you may need to do that.. Not sure if that will help, but it is worth a try ![]() _____________________
