Ok, so SL works great with Nvidias latest drivers for my card, 7800GS. Problem is that Everquest2 doesnt like them. So, i have to chose which game i want, sheesh.
SL is just plain wrong. The older NVIDIA drivers are the ONLY ones that are windows approved. The newer ones are more buggy.
Is there a way to disable this shortsighteness of the SLs hardware detection?

Theres no speed gain on installing windows vista b5384 or 5456 for Secondlife, they do work easy on a Nvidia card alright. If you install this with less then 2 gig ram youre in for hell, as its currently uses easy 1400mb, with SL ;p and Aero not even on. Windows Vista Beta 2 Software Compatibility ListWindows Vista Beta 2 Hardware Compatibility List Secondlife > currently compitable with most newer nvidia cards. If you have 20gig ish free , pref on a partition/another drive, try it out it will make you a dualboot to choose old windows if you want to go back, Soundblaster (audigy ect..) have annoying drivers so far, but eh didnt expect much this early anyhoo. Not a clue if these are newer or whatnot, but Ati vista drivers > here <tho youre out of luck till they actually fix most of it tho ;p The following ATI features are not supported in the Catalyst® Beta software driver for build 5382 of the Beta 2 Microsoft Windows Vista operating system · Overdrive™ · CrossFire™ · Catalyst® Control Center Video aspect page · OpenGL · PowerPlay™

Not! even going to try the Vista , Until i know it stable ..and the lindens have tested it first , and modify there programing so it will work ... Sl has it's Quirks . and im not adding to it by putting in a program that . will add to the other problems -
lol id suggest just doing a whole system fomat and getting your selves back to WinXp where every things works ...

Only reason i can see why Vista is faster cause it has less crap installed , but that will change when its released : p
you can just install vista on another drive (do install vista when youre in windows xp) and it will add dual boot for you , -.-
vista awefull on memory, think SL use 800mb is much? hah...try Vista.. +SL youll see easy 1700-2300mb ram use.
I had the not supported blabla for SL in vista once to, but it was something to do with vista stopping driver and setting compatibility mode since it kept crashing randomly when using that (barbie) skin thingie Vista has , so disabled that (kinda crap imo as you can already get this on winxp and far less resource use , google style xp)

There's a reason Vista is "beta".
Why are you all using it for a game machine?

Why are you all using it for a game machine? Very good question - I'd love to know the answer myself - even if I was interested in running Vista I'd dual boot it with XP.

I did have Vista installed on my computer, but last week I went back to XP. The main problem I had on Vista was that the administration part of it is messed up. It kept saying to do something things that I had to be logged in as an admistrator when I was the administrator. SL worked fine under Vista I even had some increase in framerate. One of the best things about Vista is the Speedboost, which uses a Flash-drive to use as extra memory. From what I've read there will be a beta 3 coming out sometime this year and when it does I will try it again.
