Correct. Just that secondlife doesn't have a uPnP client that would be able to search for and set up a uPnP capable router. So for secondlife, this is useless, sadly. :-/

SL's Client doesn't have to be Upnp compliant, like all programmes, it uses API calls to the system to carryout those processes. Otherwise you would have to go back to the old days, when you had print drivers supplied for every peice of software you used (DOS), Windows in an environment which 'hosts' programmes, using a common interface. Things like printers, graphic drivers, internet connections etc are all taken care of by the 'host'. What has to be compliant with Upnp is the components used by the OS, such as your ethernet card or whatever form of connection device you use between your OS and the router.

FYI: I found one JIRA entry for this, but strangely it was resolved by a normal user without any solution or hint to another JIRA entry or similar. I reopened this entry.

Teleporting and 1.18.

The important message in this thread is 13 by Justin. I could not tp beyond home until I reconfigured my newly installed ZyXEL P-320W router to open the ports he mentions save 12043 that my configuration engine rejected but it seems to work anyway. Some islands may be inaccessible to my avi for this reason, but I cannot try them all to test that :). A good web page to help the novice reconfigure his router is http://portforward.com that will explain in detail and in very simple terms how to set up port forwarding on most brands of routers.

It looks like at least some of you are being affected by this issue:

Teleport to non-Public Access region takes a long time to time out and fails
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-438

Try teleporting to, say, LindenWorld A (which is for Lindens only) and see if the same problems happen to you.

Leave votes and further comments there (I don't check the forums very much); I'll escalate this problem and hope it gets fixed soon.

Be careful when you have those tp problems.

Read what happened to both my avatars, when I started having the same problems in this topic (a few posts down): /111/4d/202071/1.html

I'm getting a peculiar variant on this problem ever since the update, and no changes have been made to my setup since last it worked perfectly.

/111/7e/202235/1.html

Basically, I get logged out anytime I try to teleport to the western half of the southernmost 'continent'. Which, ironically, happens to be where I live.

I looked at that page... and I am wondering why that issue is stated as.... resolved? I still got this problem, nothing resolved here.

I'm on that continent too, something is awry. Every time the Lindens marked the TP problems as [resolved], the problems (Search/map/teleport/L balance) still persist for several hours after in a lot of the sims down here.

Until I switched my internet provider I had this message EVERY TIME I teleported, meaning I had to use SLURLS to move somewhere *at all*. The reason was a bad packet loss due to clogged lines from my PC all the way to San Francisco. (I live on the other side of the earth.) If you have the same problem try a friend's internet account with a different provider. If it solves the issue switch your ISP. The specific route to Linden might be to blame.

Im having the same problems and Im on comcast in NE USA.

Just about giving up on Second Life.. several years running and I watch
things just get worse. Today.. the grid is unuseable for me. Cant even
stay connected for more than 3 mins at a time.

I hop into online games such as BFII and stay connected without issues.

I think i stay inworld just so I can one day say.. Yeah, I was there when it
all went POOF and Linden Labs dissapeared from the face of the Earth.

Finally, i found a solution that works for me.

Take Off Attachments

Right-click your avatar.
Select Take Off from the pie menu.
Select Detach All.
Try to teleport to your destination

I hope that help others too.

If you have many attachments (all my body and HUD spots are in use) it might be faster to copy the destination to your clipboard, logout and login at your destination using SLURL.

Sigh... I've tried EVERYTHING and SecondLife still crashes every time I try to teleport or cross over to other sims.
I've had this problem since July, after v1.18.0 (6) was rolled out, and its now September and I'm still not having any luck.

I agree with Tabitha, things are just getting worse and I'm about to give up on SecondLife too. The above bug combined with unacceptable down time, several other bugs, and poor customer service, is just making the SL experience unbearable for me :-(

My annual subscription ends in November and, unless things improve significantly between now and then, I won't be wasting any more money on SL... sorry to say it but why should I pay for something that doesn't work properly.

Hope you guys have better luck with SL than I'm having.
