So, SecondLife is having ANOTHER wonderful problem for me to deal with... I can't teleport... when I try, it goes to the loading screen "Second Life" appears over the blue loading bar as normal, but the blue bar slowly progresses until about halfway, at which point, that's right,
"You have been logged out of Second Life: You have been disconnected from the region you were in. Click Continue to look at existing IM and chat. You will not be able to perform any other operations. Click Quit to exit Second Life immidiately."

There is a 'twilight zone' which when you TP, the screen goes black, all of you (your game information) remains in a cache and is piped around the grid network to the intended destination. If the packet loss is high, the cache times out, or too much latency between servers.. you never leave the twilight zone (plays signatuire tune from TV programme) and you have only one wayout, to relog and reset your avatar's information back to the asset server ready for you to log back in. The secondary issue there is the time it sometimes takes for the asset server to actually recognise you have logged out (remember you are already in the twilight zone, in some distant cache all in bits). When you try to login, the server reports that you are not there, so must be somewhere on the main grid. That can take time to reset. Quickest way to reset the servers... is to either login as an alt and IM your main avatar, or have someone ingame IM you.

That's weird. I've never been logged out during a teleport, but I've certainly been denied the right to leave--this happens when the sim is too busy and populated usually. It will continue to kick me back to where I was, and the only way to solve this is log out (and it's best to re-log somewhere else when you return).

Yes, thats true, usually when there is a problem with the destination you basically get denied.. but as the poster said.. the screen was black, and the TP bar creeps across the screen... the Twilight Zone is the point where you are no longer on the previous sim server, as the destination has pinged to say 'yes come on over', but you dont make it within the time allotted and the cache server times out. It doesnt happen a lot, but has certainly happened to me.. until I reduced my inventory from 400,000+ down to a manageable size of 15,000.

I understood what the poster was saying, I was just stating that I've never in my two years (on and off) in SL witnessed that. 400K+ inventory? Holy asset manager Batman! No wonder we're all lagging so much.

lol... after spending days rezzing so many items called 'object' just to make sure I wasn't deleting something valuable (some creators are very lazy with naming protocols), I just got frustrated and bored, as it was resembling counting the straw in a bale on a windy day, I 'radically' reduced the inventory with swift strokes of the delete key. Hi, I'm AWM Mars... I used to collect 'Objects'

I have the same problem. TP runs for way too long and then I get disconnected. Everytime. Last time I had such a behavior, was when LL changed some TP traffic from UDP to TCP where I have outgoing restrictions from where I am. I then used transconnect ( http://transconnect.sourceforge.net/) to route all TCP traffic through the HTTP proxy I have in reach. This worked fine for so many months now. Now the problem is back and looking at the traffic shows that no TCP connection is used anymore while TPing, just UDP. But since this protocol is unrestricted for me I really don't know where there should be any problem... I read that with the new message protocol SL can use UDP as well as TCP. Is there any possibility to choose what it should use? Can anybody shed light on that? Thanks, Daniel

I am having the same problem when teleprting. I reach halfway up the bar with the message contacting new region, and then i get disconnected.
I haven't had this problem before either and it is just now after the 1.18 viewer it has begun

I'm having exactly the same problem. Started after the upgrade to 1.18.0.6, and happens on both the computers I use.

and in addition to the post above, I can add that when I relog using 'last location' I rezz at the place I was trying to tp to. I have submitted a bug report, but it's a little tiring having to relog everytime I wish to tp somewhere

After playing around for a while, I tried connecting directly to my cable modem instead of through my router. This solved the problem, so it looks like the Lindens may be right and the problem lies in the firewall in the router. I don't know what I can do about it though, and strange that it started playing up after the upgrade to 1.18.

Did all this which is from the knowledge base:
How do I configure my hardware firewall (such as a router)?
Hardware firewalls need to allow access on certain network ports. Second Life needs to connect to ports 443/TCP, 12035/UDP, 12036/UDP, 12043/TCP, and 13000-13050/UDP. You should configure your firewall to allow outbound traffic on those ports, and related inbound traffic. You'll need to consult your firewall's documentation, or the manufacturer's website, for instructions on how to make these changes to your firewall. As of Version 1.13.2, released Jan. 10th, 2007, you may need to enable UDP/TCP in order to access Second Life.
and it solved the problem

I'm also having trouble teleporting ever since installing 1.18.0.6 - TP progress bar gets about halfway across and then I get kicked out of SL with the message "You have been logged out of Second Life, etc..." I've never had this problem before either and have also filed a bug report.
I recently posted my experience in the 'Current version Feedback' forum, but then I saw this thread.
Anyway, I tried Justin9's solution of configuring the firewall router to those ports, etc... but unfortunately it didn't work for me... sigh... Does anyone have any more suggestions please?

Most routers (mine does, Belkin) allows you to set up 'profiles' with assigned ports etc. If you router has the Upnp function (mine does) you can enable that and allow the programmes you run to make changes to the routers 'firewall' capabilities. You also need to check in the 'Firewall' icon in Control panel (windows) and the exceptions tab, that you have checked all the secondlife programmes.

Correct. Just that secondlife doesn't have a uPnP client that would be able to search for and set up a uPnP capable router. So for secondlife, this is useless, sadly. :-/

I've also recently noticed that I can TP within the same sim okay - it's when I try to TP to another sim that the problem occurs. My SL log shows 404 errors when I try to do this. Am I correct in thinking that since SL now communicates, at least in part, via HTTP that this is significant as 404 means the destination server cannot be contacted. Our broadband router (between the cable modem and the PC) is configured to allow all outbound traffic without exception and deny uninitiated inbound connections, but initiated is allowed. It's been set up this way for months and SL had been working okay without any TP issues... but then viewer 1.18.0.6 came along

I was a little hasty saying that I had solved the problem. I just became intermittent. I've been having problems generally with my internet connection which has been unstable for a while. Anyway I invested in a new router (a different brand to the original) and now I can tp everytime and more consistently than ever. Summa summarum, my problems were definately with my router, but only after the upgrade to 1.18 was I unable to tp out of the sim. Why the ports mentioned in the knowledge base should suddenly be denied by the router's firewall after the upgrade is one of those mysteries I suppose I'll have to live with

Hey Justin9, what brand/model is your new router? If LL can't fix this then I may have to fork out for a new router too... if I can afford it.

Me three (

I'm having the same issues! A few versions ago I could teleport exaclty once, then I had to relog. Now it is worse. Not being able to teleport is normal for me - I got used to use SLURLS instead (open landmark, open map, copy SLURL to clipboard, logoff, paste SLURL in web browser, click teleport, login there).
The same applies to region crossing. It is close to impossible for me - I almost always get logged out after crossing a sim border - of course including the part where i cross half a sim flying around under the ground.
But the funny thing is: When people TP me the success rate is a bit higher. One out of 10 TPs actually go through when I get teleported.
At 4-5 AM local time though TPs usually work for me! Doesn't that mean that the problem is related to the ISP and/or traffic on the route *to* SL? BTW I live on the other side of the globe.. SL time is 10 hours behind me. The route is very long and crosses Europe and US. Maybe this matters as well?
Is there any workaround solution for TP issues? Maybe some genius could prop up a small plugin that automatically copies the location, logs off and logs in on the other side again. Not being able to TP is extremely frustating!

Its true that routers/modems has a lifespan, same with all electrical equipment. Whist we normally turn off our PC's, it's quite rare that we turn off our routers, none to my knowledge come with any form of fan to monitor temprature. Regarding Upnp, I did say that if you have that, it could prove useful or not, what is important that if your particular system/setup is having issues, you Could, asign open ports to a particular programme in the router, aligned with the settings in exceptions tab of the firewall. Not everyone will have to any of this, but thats mainly due to the prolifercation and variety of systems, components and OS around.

We have been trying different routers, firewalls and what not for the past days and weeks. All of the newest kind, all of them set up by a professional (lucky me - I have access to this kind of equipment and smart people to set them up for me *G*). It didn't work, period! The graphics card was replaced also, as was the processor. I am using a top of the art computer/network and still cannot teleport during normal SL hours (evenings). The problem is not here, it is over there!

Yeah, we agree Monalisa... I got my partner (who is an I.T. professional) to look at my router, firewall, SL logs, system, etc... and after a thorough examination and trying different configurations, etc... his professional opinion is that the problem is at LL's end.
I've already filed a bug report and I do hope that LL will find a solution to this very frustrating problem.
