Why Doesn't Everyone Stop Screaming About Verified Accounts!!!!
LISTEN:
Credit Card Verification can not stop griefing!!!
Right now I can go down to my local drugstore and get a pre-paid credit card and register it on the net under a totally ficticious name and address. This card would be aceptable for use by anyone who takes credit card payments. These cards are sold through major retail chains throughout the USA.
For $9.99 I get a verified account and before LL can shut me down I can do several grid attacks.
When that happens I just buy another prepaid card and set up another account with a differen phony name.
End of story

From: Hok Wakawaka S.T.F.U About Non-Verified Accounts and Griefing !!!!!!!!!!!! Seconded. I'd bet that the griefing grey-goo attacks are being performed by some verified nutjob using an unverified acct in order to try to get them all locked out.

End of story If a griefer has to pay $9.99 every time they want to fill the grid with oh so nice goo or scripts from heck...that would be a good deterant. What would be the point if they have to shell out cash? I think restricting the ability to build and create scripts for the freebie accounts is a great idea to keep the attacks down and promote getting a premier account.

From: Ravyn Christensen ... a ficticious name on a credit card, isnt that fruad? Maybe yes but this sort of griefing is also unlawful and the type of person doing this is't gonna be dterred by that. Also, technically there may be no legal action that can be brought. In the case of credit cards the fraud is typically intended to deceive the credit card issuer who uses the name to check credit histrory. Because these are prepaid cards the issuer of the card cannot be harmed by the deception.

The point is that he can do so if he wants to. The point is that he can probably do it more than once on the same card before LL will be able to shut him down. The point is that requiring verification CAN NOT STOP GRIEFING. The point is that requiring credit card verification as a method of stopping griefing is elitist arrogance as well as being a form of bigotry.

The point is that requiring credit card verification is elitist arrogance . Nothing can "stop" griefing. We are just looking for ways of slowing it down. There are griefers in all games, but better to suggest deterants rather than just complain about the problem.

The point is that requiring credit card verification is elitist arrogance . First off nothing will stop all griefing but steps can be taken to slow it down. Secondly "The point is that requiring credit card verification is elitist arrogance"... That’s hardly elitist thinking after all you yourself said that a prepaid card can be bought for as low as 9.99. I hardly think that someone spending 9.99 would place them in an elite status. Let’s not over dramatize.

The point is that requiring credit card verification as a method of stopping griefing is elitist arrogance . The POINT IS before open registration the grid wasn't down due to attacks every other day. Unverifieds should be able to look but not touch. That should be the price of being anonymous. Do not fault those that are upset who actually run businesses in SL. It may be just a fun little game to you or others but it is alot more to many. So i will complain until something gets done about this.

Back to my previously stated suggestion. Restict what the unverified accounts can do. Make it so if you want to create scripts, build, buy land and so on, ppl need to get premier accounts. That lets everyone play the game. For those that are more dedicated and actually want to create in game, they can do so with the premium account.

The grid has reopened.
Time to play.
Time to stop bickering between those with common interests.

No if it doesnt stop LL will have no choice thats my prediction! And How often did this happen before unvarified accounts where allowed? I wasnt here I wasd playing anouther game!! HAHAHA

Sorry these grid wide attacks ARE being done by non verified accounts and 99% of them would go away if CC was required. I don't really like the idea of having to require CC to play since the basic account is supposed to be free but I also pay hundreds every month in land fees to LL and I WILL complain about it I have a RIGHT to.
You don't like reading these complaints the solution is simple just like the dorks that want books burned and programs on tv taken off... DON"T LOOK AT IT!!

I was going to reply directly to this, but then whats the use? House work is better then arguing here over simatics. Luckily the forums are still open and oppinions are alowed to be shared here. I'll respect your right to view it as you wish but you have to respect others rights too. Instead of yelling at people and complaining about complaints, how about helpful ideas? Anyway I have laundry calling hope we can all get in world soon!

Let me clarify my OP as it is clear it has been misinterpreted.
STFU is a gamers term of art. Its meaning is not a literal one. It does not mean do not mention this again.
STFU in esence means I VERY STROGLY disagree.
I never intended to say you all do not have a right to express your opinions.
Sorry for the confusion.

No, but it COULD help lessen the problem. For instance, you would physically purchase that card at the corner drugstore. That would A) cost money per grid attack, and B) leave a trail to your location... whereas IP is not reliable for locating such a person any longer. If the drugstore has a security recording, they could check the video for the time of purchase... and get a description. Maybe the next time you walk in and make a purchase, you'd walk out in cuffs?
What SL has proven is that a totally open, free, anonymous, utopian society is not possible. Because there's always someone, somewhere who wants to disrupt it. Therefore, you have a choice to be ultra-secure and overbearing... or wide open, yet occasional problems.
This sorta grief problem isn't limited to SL either. D.O.S. attacks happen on the internet every day. All of the popular websites have to fend off such attacks, and sometimes they are caught off-guard and go down for a few minutes to take care of the situation. SL is no different with a few exceptions: SL is VERY young still, plus SL has no peers similar enough to help find and test solutions.
My personal opinion is that SL should limit non-verifieds via LSL, but not so much that it makes scripting impossible for non-verifieds. And I think the limit should only be on script compile, not execution. Suppose any script with either llPushObject() or llRezObject() was flagged to also check registration status before compilation... and if the avatar is anonymous, the script won't compile until those two functions are removed. In order to use a rezzer or pusher, the anonymous avatar would need to be given a script.... which had been compiled by a verified account. And of course, the non-verified would still be able to open and copy the script, yet wouldn't be able to recompile after modifying it due to those two LSL functions being present.
