update
Well after very long wait ont he phone it told me there are no support people available and hung up on me, no options. frustrating after spending half hour atinternational call rates.

There are a few things I'm steaming about and one is the way "OUR" money is being handled. I just got my support ticket replied to...told me not to use PayPal any more. Then gave me a list of "to dos" if I do use Paypal again. Screw that...contradiction.

Look Lindens, as I'm sure most will agree at this point, we can deal with our hair falling between our legs, walking around with one shoe because the other didn't rez when we popped into another sim, or the lagity, lag, lag, lag that's going on today and the series of crashes I'm going through, but MONEY ... this should be an issue that never becomes one.

WITHOUT US Lindens, you'd have no game and NO money! Trust me, even those with hard core SL addictions aren't getting their fix with this lack of service. They'll find their fix somewhere else and cheaper.

Money is a HUGE issue with me. If you look back you can see little to no complaints from me anywhere. But when I tell you that I don't want to use my emergency credit card for SL and to get Paypal under control, then you reply, "use your credit card" WTF!?! Did you read my ticket?

Don't offer Paypal then if it's such a big deal. I'm at the point now where I don't want to "risk" my credit card (used for emergencies such as a rl car break down, or something more important) and place it in your hands to triple charge. I don't like the possibility of my card going to crap.

Suggestion:

WORK TO GET THIS FIXED NOW! DROP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND TAKE CARE OF THE MAIN BACKBONE OF YOUR COMPANY! WORK SMARTER NOT HARDER!

My Gosh!!!!

Don't give them your emergency cc!! Wait out the storm because I got billed for every time i pushed the buy button and haven't received any lindens. LL used up my entire limit on the card for this month because of this is lindex error and you can understand that i'm not gonna raise the limit to get even more screwed.

CS told me they will fix it today so I hope they do.

Don't Buy It!
06-20-2007 20:20
Don't buy into the story that there is a problem with PayPal.... I've used PayPal from day ONE, no problem at all. I've bought Lindens 4 or 5 times since March when I came to SL.. no problem. Today, I wrote to PayPal asking them what their issue was with LL and why they were not honoring payment requests from them... This was my reply email from them:

Dear XXXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for contacting PayPal.

In review of your account, I see that there's nothing wrong with your
account. And I also see that there is no reason why Linden Labs is not able to request payment from you. What I can suggest is for you to try
contacting them so that they'll be able to explain their side. I apologize
for the inconvenience this may have cause you.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

Sincerely,
Ruth

Someone isn't telling the truth about the situation... I wonder who?

Contact LL and get an answer from them.... now THAT part nearly made me laugh.... nearly..... :(

I've used PayPal for years, without any difficulties. Including orders to Korea and other countries--all of which went smoothly on both ends. If LL is having a problem with PayPal, then, imho, it reflects badly on them as a business. Makes me wonder if they're not quite on the up-and-up, yaknow? *shrug*

That being said... adding my two cents' worth here--I haven't been able to buy Lindens for a couple of days now, and I'm not in much hurry to get it fixed, either--I just find myself spending less and less time in game.

When the going gets tough, I think most players, the casual ones certainly, will just find something else to occupy their time. We shouldn't have to lobby them to get something like that fixed--if they don't want to take our money, we'll find other things to spend it on.

Can't pay membership dues
06-20-2007 20:46
It's better than that! I pay my SL membership through PayPal. And got this letter from our friends at Linden...

=====

This email is notification that we were unable to bill your Second Life account.

If you are using Paypal, check your Paypal account's verification and backing.
Your Paypal account must be verified and backed by a funding source other than a
credit card. (We are unable to accept Paypal accounts backed by credit cards.)
Make sure the Merchant Agreement with Linden Lab is current, and make sure you
haven't exceeded your Paypal transfer limits.

If everything looks correct, you may want to contact your credit card issuer (or
Paypal as appropriate) to identify the problem.

Don't worry; this billing failure will not prevent you from logging on with your
Second Life account. We will simply try to bill your overdue balance again the
next day. If we are unable to collect the amount due within seven (7) days,
your account will be suspended pending payment for an additional thirty (30)
days. During that time, you will not be able to log in to Second Life. Failure
to resolve this billing issue by the end of the probation period may result in
the cancellation of your account. If you have verified the accuracy of your
billing information, and are not aware of other outstanding issues that would
prevent billing, please contact customer service via email at
billing@secondlife.com as soon as possible.

=====

Yikes, I think, they are going to take my land and all my lovely shoes! I sent an email off right away to billing@secondlife.com

=====

Thank you for contacting Linden Lab, the makers of Second Life. Our support
system has changed and we have discontinued the use of this email address.
Please note, information sent to this email address will not be read or
responded to.

it worked!
06-21-2007 11:24
I was finally able to buy $Ls a few minutes ago, after trying and trying unsuccessfully for a week. I went to my account page on the website, clicked on "update or delete credit card info" and reentered my cc information. After a few minutes I tried to buy Ls and it worked.

Remember a few days ago when I was so happy about finally being able to purchase Lindens?

Well that didn't last long. Back to the same old bullshit.

You can't buy Linden anywhere with PayPal as your source but you can add dollars to your Slexchange account with Paypal. The catch? Instead of being charged thirty cents for the transaction, you'll pay 2.2%. Once you have the dollars in your Slexchange account, you can convert them to Lindens and then go in world, find an Slexchange ATM and simply withdraw your Linden.

What this tells me is that the problem is clearly not PayPal but Linden Labs and most likely something to do with the automated conversion process. My conspiracy theory? Someone hacked this module and had it redirect some trivial amount of Linden per transaction to their account. Add the number of transactions per day, per week, per month, suddenly you have some serious change.

Lindens! Am I right?

First day in the game, outside the tutorial islands... I tried to set up my Paypal account and buy some L$ and got this same message...

I've been spending the last 3 hours scouring PayPal's support pages and SL Website for help... because I am very new to SL and I thought the problem was on my end. I am very sad to find out that it is on Linden's end...

I don't have a CC that I can use, because I had to cancel it... and was very pleased to see that Linden offered the option of PayPal... and now I find that I can't use it at all!

Very bad on their part, this is a very bad first impression for me of SL, and gives Linden a very bad reputation in my opinion... Not a good image for them to have for a first timer.

The PayPal/Second Life work around.
06-23-2007 04:27
I will repeat this again and try and use smaller words. All those looking to use PayPal with Second Life can do so by visiting this link....

http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Your_Account&file=fundsdeposit_usd

It's apparent the problem with PayPal/Second Life is the automated conversion process; taking your real world money and converting it into Linden. However, being in the technology field, I'm always looking for the work around. Visiting the link above will take you to a page where you can import US Dollars into the Second Life universe, via Slexchange.

1.Visit link above and add US dollars to your Slexchange account.
2.Convert your purchased dollars into Linden.
3.Find an Slexchange ATM in world.
4.Simply say withdraw and the amount and guess what? You have Linden!

Slexchange looks interesting, look of neat things there...

But.

It won't let me do anything because my avatar is less then 7 days old. It says I am not allowed to buy stuff; and it won't let me deposit any real money to do anything... so; I still think this is a bad impression for SL... because, it seems that new people can't do anything without L$.

I guess I'll just wait a week before I log back in.. maybe things will work then.

There's plenty you can do as a new player.. Not to mention parties and clubs that have contests going for something as stupid as the biggest butt. You could easily win 500 lindens.. And for someone like me, I enjoy building.. so I don't really need money to do that. What I do need is the payment info used title in my profile so I can get into private sandboxes!

Its very disturbing that after 2 weeks, this problem is still ongoing. I have been getting the same error message when trying to buy $L with an Amex card

(*We are unable to complete your request.
• The system encountered an error while processing your order, please try again.*)

I was able to buy $L twice last week, but all other times I got the error. I thought it was because of transaction limits on free accounts (my account is less than a week old), so I tried to upgrade my account to a premium, and still got the same error. Put in a trouble ticket, but still no response.

I have to agree with everyone else here that Linden's support here is just awful. As a new player this is incredibly frustrating and the Linden's responses have been practically nonexistent. It really shakes my confidence in Second Life as a whole.

In the interim I had purchased Lindens through Anshe Chung (http://dreamland.anshechung.com/index.php?fct=BUY_L$)

Thanks for the link to the issue tracker, Vaill. It seems to be a more official channel than the forums.

One thing that concerns me is that official Linden statements seem to treat this as an issue with PayPal payments, but its not; There are people having the same issues with a credit card too.
