What I do is open the template and then create new layers above it to work on. That's most useful for me since I photoshource and spend a lot of time fitting pieces to the template. If you mostly hand paint you may find it more useful to put the template on a layer above the ones you're painting on and change the blending mode to "darken" or adjust its transparency.

Thanks everyone :) These are really just a combination of two existing linden templates. The wireframes have been floating around in world forever but have never been available for download on the website. The only things I really added were color coding the edges of the upper body template so you can see how the seams join up, and adding markers for the skirt overlap, and fingers and toenails. Having the wireframe on there makes it a bit easier to match up details across the seams.

You know it really stinks when someone takes Linden freebies and changes them a little bit and then tries to pass them off for... umm... free... and like umm... gives credit to the original... umm creator... and...

Nevermind. But something stinks somewhere; I'm sure of it!

Bite me Malachi. Feel free to not use them and spend your own time trying to find the wireframes and working out where all the seams join up, exactly where the skirt overlaps the top, etc. But yes, obviously I have some nefarious purpose for taking my time to do it for you.

great job Chip :) redoing the wireframes is a bitch :P though I thought at one time they were included with the linden template but the upper arm seam and skirt lining has to be the most helpful thing on here(well for me atleast), Thanks a lot!

Yes Evil Evil Helpful Chip you should be banned from SL for helping the community.

(Behind the Scenes a BIG guy named GINO shows up at Chips.. "Hey you ..know what you have done now...now there will be 50 New clothiers by weeks end" takes out a Prim cage and encases chip) :P

Malachi,
Have you ever made clothes before? Chip's templates are MUCH more beneficial than the LL uploads... I think you owe chip an apology!

Here's a different set of templates that have a custom grid instead of the wireframe which I use for seam matching. All grid lines match up across all seams. There are also markers for common collars and a smear-free panty line marker. These templates have been through more than 50 revisions and have previously been unavailable anywhere.

Here is the upper body grid template

:O even better! the grid lines match up pretty well, very few spots that miss(on the shoulders and under arms mostly I think) :D thanks a ton chip! I had an earlier version of this but lost it when my old laptop tanked.

Yeah, trying to get a match across the shoulders is extremely difficult. I tend to rely on the wireframe versions for shoulder and underarm matching more than the grid. The most helpful aspect of the grid versions to me is matching detail across the waist seam and having more match points along the sides of the torso and arms.

You rock Chip! Thanks so much, those are *very* helpful!

edited to add: I'm in the process of building a website with help for making clothing in SL, do you mind if I put these up for people to grab? Full credit to you of course. :)

Be my guest, Princess :) I've been using the grid versions for a long time and finally decided it was time to share. Anyone is welcome to use them and pass them along to others. I only ask that you keep my name on them.

This sort of unselfish gesture used to be the bread & butter of SL. Bravo Chip!

As for everyone else, pass it forward!
