THere is just one flaw. What about those of us using Paint Shop Pro (in my case PSP 8)? I'm not the most adept with either program, and there are some functions in PhotoShop that PaintShop either doesn't have, or names differently.

I know I'm not the only one using Paint Shop Pro, a walkthrough for making clothes in PSP(8) would be helpful to me. Otherwise my brain fries trying to convert knowledge (the biggest problem, and yeah I know, I'm a stupid noob, but "Alpha Channel" is the big headache. >.<;)

Otherwise I'll keep frying my brains trying to convert the knowledge, but it'd be nice if someone could help out with some slight details.

Hi..I use PSP 7 myself. PS is just wayyy to expensive. Ive learned to adapt :P

There are detailed instructions on Alpha Channels for psp here..you just need to scroll down.

Also..look online or at SL.com. Goodluck!

Wow! Thanks for the great links!

Anyone have a good tutorial on making realistic-looking wrinkles on clothing? I'm having a lot of problems with this...

Ive looked all over the net for this tut myself. I went to the Bare Rose event on Sat. June Dion..had a class. She mentioned the Smudge Tool for wrinkles.

Also I found this tutorial to make wrinkles from scratch. Give both a try. Ive yet to try it out.

Good Luck!

I have made a web page of my intermediate tutorial on making clothes in Second Life. It includes all of the text from my previous post along with the Photoshop screen shots.

I hope it proves helpful.

Jen

It can be found here:

I'm not sure if this was mentioned...Starley Thereian just completed an excellent wrinkle tutorial in this month's issue of Second Style. Check out pages 6-8.

What about previewers? Is Johan Durant's the only one available? It doesn't seem to work on my pc, unfortunately. :(

What about AVPainter? Any other - more or less common - 3d software we could use?

I just noticed AvPainter; I'll be trying out the demo, because it looks very cool. You can use pretty much any 3D software for previewing with, it's just that it'll be more complicated. I was in the middle of writing a post to explain to someone how to preview textures when it occurred to me that I could just write an easy-to-use tool for that purpose.

I can't think of another tool for easily previewing multiple layers of texture, but for a single layer of texture even really low-cost 3D software like Milkshape will work. Just grab the avatar models/mannaquins from the downloads page.

Dear Johan,
never used 3d software before: what would you recommend? Price is not a problem, but my pc is old.

I have a question about the Polo Shirt tutorial. I understand that the shirt needs to be 24,240,240 and why. But what color is the actual drawing of the shirt and shadows? What color did you use to draw the colar?

Sorry Ghanie, I haven't been here much recently. You can draw the shirt in any color. The use of multiply & screen layers will darken and lighten any color used for the shirt. That is one of the reasons I like them. You draw them with black and white and then add color to the template and the shadows become darker shades of your color. Same thing happens to the screen, the color lightens.

I hope this answers your questions.

I don't think that colar was drawn in black.. it looks like a shade of gray although I couldn't guess where in the spectrum it would be. Most brushes and colors made my designs look penciled in when I tried back then.

I ended up buying a tablet mouse which helped me use burn to draw some things, although I do NOT recommend bothering with it unless you can find one for really cheap. I mean, these days I just use the mouse, bevel/emboss, and the transform functions for the most part. Sometimes I'll use it to put in shadows/wrinkles when I'm feeling lazy but even that can be done with any mouse given enough practice.

Ghanie, that was black. However, when drawing a fold or wrinkle in a multiply layer, you use less than 100% coverage. That is why it looks grey to you. I generally use 20-25% coverage when drawing folds in multiply. The more passes with the pen the darker it looks.

No, it's not you. Many of the links are obsolete. If you look at the first posts, they're from a few years ago. It would be really nice if the board moderator or initial poster updated this, since it's here as a sticky.

Your best bet (and mine) is to try the links in reverse order, newest posts first.

Hyperlinks and graphics in the forum
09-10-2007 19:45
Possibly I'm just a bit slow or something, but none of the links are clickable. I don't know if they should be and I don't have the forum set up correctly or what. Also a few post have mentioned included pictures, but none show for me.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Forum BBCoding was turned off for a yet unknown reason--see announcement at the top of the forum. I did a quick check and most of the links still go to useful information (only had to cull a few), but you have to copy and past the url from within the BBC coding shown in the post.
