If you're staying in for "amateur night" tonight (that's St. Patrick's Day for those in foreign countries), and really bored, feel free to watch Jennyfur and I on CNBC. We were interviewed by the staff of "On the Money" talking about business and the emerging 3-D realm, and told it would air tonight (there's an off chance it may be bumped until Monday, but not likely). I've also been told there will be some good shots of the LL offices!

Or go out and get wasted, your choice! ;)

Regards,

-Flip

I would be highly appreciative if someone would record, digitize, and upload to a web server (putfile?)that segment so all those sans CNBC might get to see it. Please? :)

Congrats Flipper and Jennyfur!

I'll be home until at least midnight or so when Sig gets home, so I'll watch if I'm not drunk and passed out from too much food. Unfortunately, I have no way to record it for others, and wouldn't know how to digitize it if I did.

Being completely tech-tarded as I am, I don't even know if this is possible, but...

I would really love if one of the Lindens involved with PR and media interaction (Catherine maybe?) could set up a little Linden viewing room/arena in-world where people could gather to watch streams of interviews about SL. Maybe schedule a few specific times a day/night following the broadcast to air them for people on different time zones and schedules.

(Hope this doesn't hi-jack your thread, Flip!)

hehehehe, quite alright, Jonquille. Its airing from 7-8 EST just so everyone knows; and I'll be TiVoing / digitizing it, much like I did with Philip's Headline News interview.

Regards,

-Tim

I was waiting for that. Oh, and "Wow, this is so distasteful, promoting something you're involved with!" ;)

Right. You know someone is thinking that very thing right now.

I submit that if people didn't promote things they were involved in, or maybe cajole/pay others to do it for them, there'd be far, far fewer success stories in SL.

Promote away!

Welp, it wasn't listed in the intro, wonder if they bumped it? And still no cable internet and no SL. Bleh.

coco

P.S. And this other junk they are talking about is BORING!!

Woot! Coming up next!

Excellent work, Jennyfur and Flipper! Flipper, you are a natural - you look and sound like a sort of mini-Philip on the air!

That bit of terrific overall coverage should get us a nice new bunch of players, unless I miss my bet.

Sigh . . . I guess it's back to reading The Cell and waiting for the kid to get home. Have I mentioned how much I hate CharterSucks Cable?

GREAT segment!

That's probably the best airtime I've seen Second Life get on TV, period.

Kudos to FlipperPA for his quotes on training and rapid prototyping! That's the kind of stuff has not been getting the attention it deserves and he really explained them well. (and the Lost show example was great, too)

On the downside, CNBC labeled SL a game. gah.

Oh, and ... when did Philip go emo with his hairdo?

also mentioned:
- Anshe Chung, Philip said "100+" people are selling land as a full time job. (I think that number's inflated.)
- Brigadoon Island

Maybe you don't consider it a game but I certianly do. This is an upside.

Thanks all for the kind words! I think it came off pretty well, despite the game tag. While it might be a game to some - it seems to be labeled a game by former TSO players in particular - its definitely something different for others. Its funny, while being interviewed, I mentioned that its really not just a game to them, and they got kind of nervous when I mentioned some might be offended. I then explained its a common misconception and that there are many discussions about exactly what SL is. The very fact that these discussions happen goes to prove its not JUST a game. If its more than a game to any single person, then its not JUST a game.

Jonas, that's like saying the World Wide Web is a game. I know a lot of people who use MSN Gaming Zone to play Bejeweled... that doesn't mean the entire Web is just a game. SL is used purely as entertainment for some, but I think the families being helped by Brigadoon and the government employees learning how to contain biohazards might take some offense at your need to label it "just a game" as a blanket statement. You get out of SL what you put into it. For me, that's part work, part entertainment, part goofing off, part philosophy... you know, kind of like RL. Please don't impose what YOU use SL for on ME. That's not your right, and it reeks of arrogance. The same goes for the rest of you insisting "game and nothing more", and not innocently referring to it as a game because that's the closest thing you're familiar with that is resembles. Its a different animal than anything else out there.

Regards,

-Flip
