From: Lucifer Baphomet Yes, and American Airlines is not your friend... American Airlines is a company trying to make money. If they were to determine they could make more money by diverting flights to remote islands, and forcing passengers into forced labour camps, you can bet thats what they would do. The difference being that, unlike the SL terms of service, there is no clause in the American Airlines service contract that specifically allows them to do that.

Linden Lab can be sued if they terminate an account without giving someone the chance to backup their data THEY OWN AND HAVE THE RIGHT TO. I'm pursuing legal action against LL for this very reason. LL isn't above the law--even on their own closed propietary system. They WILL be held accountable for EVERY action they take against infringing on the rights of others--PERIOD! No TOS/end-user license, or any other corporate legal mumbo jumbo document is going to save Linden Lab's ass against THE supreme law of the United States of America, of which Linden Lab is located within.

Sorry spanky, but the TOS/end-user is going to save Linden Lab's ass from just such cases. Of course, your case is that you went against their rules multiple times dispite warnings. Rather you like to believe it or not, their TOS wins in your case. This is a fact.

Rather you like to believe it or not, their TOS wins in your case. This is a fact. Honestly, nobody knows that until it's been tested in court. SL is unique in claiming that users own the IP rights to their creations. If they intentionally ban a user without giving the user the opportunity to reclaim their IP, it could be outside the protection of the TOS. Like I said, the TOS is just words until somebody tests it in court. As an aside, did you have any land in your possession when you were kicked? If so, did they pay you for it? There was a case about a year and a half ago in which a user found a full-sim mall that had terraforming left on. She proceeded to cause an "earthquake", destroying all the builds. The kicker is, that she had a substantial (for the time) amount of land. When they permabanned her, LL bought back all her land at the prevailing average rate and sent her a check. That's a 100% true story.

From: Ricky Zamboni If it became in some way advantageous for them to take people's creations, you can bet they would. LL is not your friend. LL is a company trying to make money. If they determine they can make more money by expropriating users' content you can bet that's what they will do.
Aww, Ricky. You don't really believe that, do you? Just because you run a company, it doesn't automatically make you a shark. Yeah, Linden Lab might compete with a resident's product. But I seriously doubt they'd literally take a resident's creation. I myself, if I ran a business, then I would still behave with decency, and I seriously think Linden Lab are a decent company. ...and I would welcome Linden Lab to compete with me. They have a right to eat too!.

...and I would welcome Linden Lab to compete with me. They have a right to eat too!. I believe it wholeheartedly. In fact, there's a post in this very thread in which such a thing is described. Now, I don't know the person involved personally, but I don't doubt for a minute the story is true. In this context, I think you're being naive in inviting LL to compete with you, simply due to the fact that you have absolutely no way to gain a competitive advantage over them. Any changes you make to your products could be trivially incorporated into their "official" version. Any textures you upload could be instantly packaged into a default texture library. Any scripts you write could be easily placed into a public scripting library. Would you really invite LL to give every single user a fancy-schmancy scripted wand, complete with instantly available upgrades, to play with for free?

So I would take anything he said about Linden Lab with a salt mine. If Linden Lab wanted to compete with residents, then I'm sure they wouldn't go and take their textures/models and scripts. They'd make their own. Oh and btw, me, and I'm sure many others have probably got some Linden derived content in our items. So we all need to be careful before pointing fingers From: someone Would you really invite LL to give every single user a fancy-schmancy scripted wand, complete with instantly available upgrades, to play with for free?
I would love Linden Lab to add the ability to rez items directly from a specified folder within our main inventory. The script that runs the wand is really quite simple.
