I would naturally think it depicts what most of the Popular Places look like. Tanned buff half-naked male avatar in black leather pants and female avies in slutwear played by men. Oh, and griefers in robot suits too.

Personally, although I agree that the subject matter could be more sophisticated and representative, I find the image striking. This is probably more to do with the quality, and the fact that it is at least 'a change' than anything else?

Speaking of which, given the frequency of client-updates, I would love to see a new image in the client log-in screen...

im going with some of the ppl here in saying if they wanted to repersent SL it should be a montage, show the rockin club, the furrys hanging in the pool the sci fi geeks playing laser tag in uniforms ect whatever

it almost looks like linden A got linden B C D & E to pose in some generic island setting and said there, thats good

does it effect me personally?

yea it does, i really dont care whats up there as long as its not

please stop whatever you were doing while we load this broken map that you havent looked @ in 17 months

The rock star has Philip's face when he gets *that* look so we're probably stuck with it for a while. It has to seem fun and game like for the masses to pour in and build a world right? We can hardly expect enough professional users to adopt the project so that useful software can be developed. That ship sailed long ago Jocularity! Jocularity!

What does the picture say??
08-01-2006 20:00
I know a picture says a thousand words; but this advertisement tells me that the marketing department has it's marching orders to bring in more customers. Taking those orders literally, they tapped into a market that has been left untouched so far...TEENS. Teens spend a lot of money, and LL is hoping to cash in some revenue.

Well once they have finished rehearsing, my seventies themed nightclub would gladly entertain a show.

That would just turn SL further into a clone of Sociolotron. There are reasons I play SL and not Sociolotron, and I for one do not want SL slipping further down that path.

It says - horny guys get the hot blackhaired women.

Oh, and it also says - that male skin is pretty crappy.

"Aye Captain, Sarcasm Mode engaged."

Ahem.

I think it says, "diversity."

Yes, I do.

Just looking at it you can tell that among the residents in-world you can find many lifestyles represented. For example, there are both kinds of killers: people who like to commit mayhem from a distance using full-auto firearms, and others who like to commit mayhem by brute physical hand-to-hand means.

And you can find individuals representing different age, ethnic, cultural and racial groups.

Like, the guy in the blue battle armor is Latino, or Black, or Asian...or maybe we'll never know...just use your imagination.

The minotaur represents those of us who are part of the older generation of guys--you know, the old fart demographic. This is obvious, since like most of us in that group, he's got that hiruste back and ear-hair thing going on. Plus he looks really grumpy--on the verge of telling some kids to get thehelloffamylawngawdammit. Yep, that speaks volumes to us in the curmudgeon sub-culture.

And as for portraying a wide range of women residents...well as you can see, SL attracts both those who like to wear extremely tight leather garments, and those who like to wear extremely tight faux-leather vinyl items.

As for the guy in the middle, the appearance of this central image makes it clear that when you go in-world, those of you who are members of the "smarmy wanker" element in society will fit right in.

I honestly was a little perturbed by the rifle toting robot since that's how most people describe the griefers these days -- well not all robots are griefers of course.

Most griefers won't buy about 2900L worth of C-tech Assault Armor just to orbit someone when they can go to yadni's for a dolla.
