From: SuezanneC Baskerville Content producers, alienated by intimate knowledge of the underpinnings of the Second Life illusion, unable to enjoy a night at a club, for example, because they are mentally estimating the number of open listens and pondering the effects of the particle display on those users suffering from Celeronism, grow bored and discontent. Some fall prey to the delusion of personal superiority known as wuism. Others seek more financially rewarding methods of earning an income such as getting a part time job. at a video store. . Although I'm not in the slightest way opposed to an option feature set (time willing) for those who would like such a thing - I would like proof of this statement. Being one of the people your talking about and never having ever sufferend any of these effects - I'd like to know if I'm in the minority? Also - the problem of 'conforming' the SL interface to what it 'should be' is that its very subjective - SL is different things to different people - what it is and how it should be is some nebulous thing that shifts depending on the user. All are right and none are right. In short: I don't need change for my paradigm Siggy.

From: someone Imagine being able to chisel out your stone scupture using your feedback gloves and your mallet and chisel sensor implements Having actually done hammer-and-chisel sculpture in real life, I far, far prefer the immersion-destroying virtual version we have now.

Um, I've moaned about SLs UI myself... However, yesterday a friend and I were clueing in a noob on the basics of prim creation, manipulation and texturing.
By way of demo I rezed a cube, stretched it, twisted it and slapped a texture on it, to produce, in a few seconds, a pretty impressive object, albeit with a simple basic structure. An object I'd never created before. I just visualised the desired end result and did it - pretty much automatically.
At the time I was pretty surprised myself. It was the first time I realised that I'm now very much at home with the UI and tools (and all their bugs and frustrations...) and was actually able to just 'do it' - the deed following the thought without any real effort.
To me, that's good enough. For now at any rate.

I think there's still a bit to go with inworld tools. As I said earlier -- being able to 'paint' textures onto the side of a prim, and have the corresponding UV mapped texture automagically generated would be a great boon to those just starting out. Ditto for animations & poses. The problem unfortunately probably comes down to manpower and funds -- LL doesnt have the backing of someone like EA, who can through $100M in the general direction of a single product; which would result in this kind of polishing; what manpower LL does have is better served providing new features and fixing stability problems. -Adam

I'm not saying the in world construction tools are perfect. They aren't. They can be, especially for beginners, frustrating and about as user friendly as the business end of a chainsaw. But, given time and persistence they can become pretty effortless. Well, they seem to have for me. Only took about 8 months too!

From: SuezanneC Baskerville "MMORPG-type crafting system" - I didn't say anything about that, that is just something that people that don't understand what immersive creation means say. The point I was trying to make last night was that unless you have force-feedback gloves and a more intuitive interface than I have seen in most MMORPG's, OR in most 3D Modeling/rendering programs... Then it's not going to be "immersive creation", it's going to be "crafting", it's going to be slapping buttons in a GUI representative of "saw", "sand", and "chisel".
