I own 2,048 M2, or 1/32 Region for me. Actually it's a bit less than that, but I'll top that off to the full 2K shortly.

My parcel is on a private island, and it doesn't cost me as much as $15 USD per month, nor does it require me to also pay to be a Premium member. I pay less than that per month.

Personally?

I've got about 9500m in Alice, all income property (West Trade Imports).

I don't count the Caledon sims because I don't personally have a lot there, others do. I have a little officey place on a ship in Port Caledon, barely anything - that's it.

Someday, I'm getting 512m somewhere *just for myself* - I'll probably rent it.

I'd love to live in my own sims, but I don't wanna have people ever feeling that I'm 'looking over their shoulder' all the time.

Currently, something like 768 m2 in Neufreistadt, a share of the private sim in Suffugium, and I contribute my 512 of premium to the Squidsoft base in Eldora.

I have most of Yamato, on the mainland, and it took almost 2 years to get that. ... Also have a goodish size chunk in Apukohai (sp? 2 years and I still cant spell it).

Anyway ... in Apukohai (sp) I planted bananas and some huts. I should visit more.

Yamato is where my Market is ... people sometimes ask if I rent to other merchants, but I dont ... its just that I build all sorts of things. And speaking of building, Yamato is also where I build; its nice to have a personal sandbox -- no waiting! :)

We have plans to rebuild personal home, and a couple other things, but move slow. I'm easily distracted ... maybe that explains my wildly eclectic building efforts.

Anyway ... while I sometimes think a private island might be a lot of fun, I dont see leaving Yamato ... I love it there.

I find my needs have changed since I started almost 2 years ago. I use land for different reasons now than I did then.

In what way, exactly?

I'm at the half sim tier, mostly all in Puea as a home/business, but not using all the tier at the moment. I like where I'm at, but the performance recently has been approaching unusable in the sim, so I've been considering making the jump to an island, although I'd really rather not.

125/month currently, probably getting a private sim in a week or two (not fully decided yet) without selling my mainland properties, so that will be 320/month.

1/16th of a region ($25/month). I used to have a big tree with a little store in it. But I'll be tiering down to nothing as soon as I get the land sold off.

Your poll has no option for owning more land than one sim? No option for "I own my own continent"? How will Anshe answer?

Anyway...

I started out two years ago as a free account, and moved to premium within a week. I began with a simple 512 first land and built a simple Shinto temple on it. I filled my prim limit within a day on that build and that was without any furnishings in the building. Two years later I own 8700m of land on the mainland, half for a store and half for a community build, have 10000m in the Caledon sims, and recently bought a private Island that will become my new home store location.

I guess I am the classic example of what Linden Lab wants us all to be...a free account that graduates to premium landholder and works their way up to private island ownership in time.

I find now that the land I use most often is a large sandbox area that good friend of mine and I co-own on the mainland in Fuchsia. When I first started, I was preoccupied with the idea of making a neat little hang out of my own that looked sort of real. Now I just want open space to build. And few trees. It's got to have trees. :)

I own 1/4 of Federal and am saving up for a sim since my chances of getting any more large chunks of land in Federal are slim and none. If my virtual world turns out to be perfect, I would love to have Khamon's sim on one side of me and Lauk's on the other side :D

haha.. no no... nothing sinister. Some friends of mine are thinking about buying an island and It's just been interesting watching how our land needs change as we get older in SL years, and as our priorities change.

1/4 sim split in Bouraq and Sundana. I had just sold up my First Land but wanted somewhere I could call my own, so bought an 8192 in Bouraq for "future expansion". Unfortunately this was at the heart of the Impeach Bush scam and the "if you want the view, buy it" situation, and the big block for sale in Sundana right next to me was a worry. I wasn't sure what to do when a friend asked me if she could put her house on my land, and told me she'd pay me for it. Aha! So, I grit my teeth, tiered up, bought the Sundana parcel and placed some rental homes on it. The opposite parcel in Sundana got bought too, because I still had tier spare. Yes, $75 is a bit steep, but that's about the cost of a PC game each month in the UK and Second Life has kinda saved me from buying many of those :)

Now I'm reconsidering things a bit - the rental parcel isn't really big enough to be able to offer good value to renters, so it can't compete too well. Half of it already got removed to be replaced with the Bijo Main Store - and I have to give major kudos to the owner of the mall just behind the Store, who wanted to buy the land, but I told her I couldn't sell, because it wouldn't take me down a tier. Not only did she not get mad about me not selling it, she actually helped me build the store!

The only sad thing is that the original 8192 is still empty apart from a few sandbox builds and script tests. I keep wanting to build a house, but every attempt I've made so far, to be blunt, has sucked. :) Oh, and I have a friend who keeps teasing me about it and telling me to group the land so he can build a brothel there. :)

After tallying it all up: 2k short of a quarter sim. 1536 on the mainland for pet projects, 512 donated to a group for other pet projects (involving sheep, last time I looked), around 6k for commercial stuff, all on rental islands, and another 6k as homebase and sandbox in beautiful Caledon.

I originally started out with standard first land and owned around 8kish mainland for a while, first in Brauni, then in Kaili, then decided to rent and moved to the Azure Islands continent for a few months. Rentals are just a better value for someone who likes a change of scenery every so often :)

I've often considered consolidating and moving to a quarter-sim rental, to enjoy more terraforming possibilities and no zoning restrictions; but Caledon is both too scenic and too community-involved to leave.

Hey, Kaili is where I had my first land :) My best friend had her first land there too, but she sold it to me when she left SL, and I consolidated to two lots, plus bought another. Then I sold it to buy land in Pierce with Mulch. The same plot is there now still joined how I had it joined a year ago, and again for sale. I considered buying it back, but there is a build on the corner of the sim by the water that really is NOT moving anytime soon and the land under it is not for sale so :(

/end TMI also :D

I voted for 5/month for 512sqm because I do own that on the mainland. But I also own (soon to be) 2 private islands which seemed to not fit in with the poll very well.

You left out Chairman Mao's delicious Pie as well.

PS: Pi and Theta (on order) are the islands, a developer's haven. Stop on by! </free advert>

How much land do you own and what do you do with it? Is it mainland or a private island?

2560m2 (2048 tier + free 512) on the mainland, on which I'm building a modest outdoor live-music venue.
