Stroker: You're on, buddy! Magnum, I don't see where in my post I stated the camping chairs were illegal, against ToS, or anything, so I don't know why you're replying to me as if I did. I didn't even comment on them, however, if I did, I would have probably called them sleazy, cheating and a waste of system resources which could better go towards non-zombie avatars. That's very different from illegal. I simply said the dwell system was being gamed, and I hope LL doesn't have to continue its role as babysitter because of a few bad apples. The community is going to have to learn to deal with folks like the W-Hats much in the way people who run web sites deal with malicious hackers if we want our world to grow. LL isn't going to be able to be mom and dad forever; I don't think they want to be, or we want them to be. Right now, I view LL as having nurtured the Second Life grid as a baby, and following this analogy, its probably about to hit puberty; soon it will turn the equivalent of 18, and have to fend for itself! Regards, -Flip

From: Introvert Petunia I await the numerous groundless lawsuits that are certain to be filed for perceived "damages" smaller than the relevant filing fees. You wouldn't by any chance happen to know what contract is allegedly breached, would you? I think the part that reserves LL's right to change the game, pull down their pants, and crap on your head if they feel like it because of their role in said contract pretty much severs most lawsuit attempts at the testicular level.

Personally, I think it was long overdue that Linden address the gaming of Dwell.
However, my chief complaint is that an immediate overhaul of the Dwell system is not taking place with the phase-out of the DI. Many folks are frustrated with the rampant gaming of the system - and at its core, its Dwell that's being gamed, not specifically the DI.
(Although, by gaming Dwell, you automatically game the DI.).
Eliminating the DI does little to address the core gaming problem. I believe this will become more apparent after we cross the April 1 threshold.
Thing is, when I take all the conversations from Linden in context - I don't believe the elimination of DI has much to do with the camping chair phenomenon, as much as many have stated that it has.
I believe that Linden is removing DI because they feel that the community should reward venues with their own pocketbook instead of Linden Labs. They feel that our community has reached a size now where it should be able to support the venues the community feels worthy without assistance from Linden. That's it.
Note that this isn't neccesarily an endorsement of LL's position on this, just stating that if everyone feels that the reason why DI was removed was due to the camping chair phenomeon, that's taking a very simplistic view. If anything - the camping chair phenomeon was an extremly convienient excuse to phase out the DI at the time they did.

Remember when ratings were "fixed?" Supposedly ratings older than 6 months were to fall off and then the ratings showing in our profile would all be relatively current. What did we actually get? The senior members lost most of their ratings in the first cut, then then LL changed the plan and stopped deleting additional ratings. The result was that the senior members who had been here longer, and who had done more to earn the ratings, bore ratings numbers that were shamefully nonreflective of their efforts, while the newer members who had gamed ratings in the clubs bore high unearned numbers. It was a half way fix. Eliminating DI is another halfway fix. Dwell is gamed and should be eliminated totally. What purpose does any aspect of dwell serve now except to provide another method to game directory listing postiions. All dwell should be eliminated!

From: Magnum Serpentine Flip, there is nothing in the rules that say Camping Chairs are Illegal. There's no laws against farting in crowded elevators, either, but that doesn't necessarily make it acceptable.

It's always fun to find the mention of poodle hats randomly when you peek at the end of a thread.
