Persuasion technologyExamples of technologies that can be used for persuasive purposes are: Impressive clothing, a method used since ancient times. Louis XIV for instance owned the lace factories which pumped out products useless for any purpose except emulating the King and thereby impressing others.Maybe if I wear some of those impressive crotch pants like Philip's...or has that already been tried? Doh!

Eh screw debates - so many people get involved it becomes a 'mass-debate'. But when it comes to presenting an idea, bug, suggestion - I just keep things short and simple - only address the point with the information I have (in the case of a bug), or an example (suggestion).
Stay away from 'emotion' (caps lock on - screaming about the injustices of the world - OMG I'LL F*CKING TIER DOWN!!!!!), 'made up information' (The vast majority of SL thinks.... This will RUIN SL.... .) , FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) or other nonsence.
It's your suggestion - so speak for yourself only.
And of course - if its passed over - take your medicine. You don't know what other things are out there and being worked on, so don't get your gall-bladder in a knot because what you thought was life threatening isn't the opinion shared by the company.
Short - Simple - Civil - Factual..... 'Just the facts ma'am'
I find that 90 percent of my queries, questions, etc get a reply this way - so I'll keep to it.

Agreed, Siggy. I think this is where persuasive writing comes best. Make an introductory to your point of view, state several points, back them up with facts/examples and then make closure of it. Perhaps cover the other side of the view point in addition. Keep a professional manner of course without seeming "pushy". And lets do not forget to keep in regards the TOS and Community Standards when writing. I'm guessing Robin Linden would be the choice of person to send your letter to so that it could be forwarded to the appropriate people for review. If LL considers it perhaps they will make a topic of discussion regarding your matter in a follow-up in-world meetup or via forum topic.

I really think it depends upon the issue involved as well as the Lindens who need to be approached. I have seen changes implemented both ways, via the procedure set into place by voting and also by favoritism to a friend and yes, even including cyber sex with a Linden.
For those who claim only one method works, and that that there is consistency, my reply is you just dont know about the other side of the issue. One of the reasons I am on my evenhanded treatment crusade is because I have seen favortism, as well as punishment doled out, because of who knows what Linden.
Does anyone remember when Candy Apple was suspended for revealing the names of Linden alts in world, suspended because it was "secret" information... now we have members advertising and even bragging about being Lindens. Candys suspension was well discussed on the forums where she complained bitterly, and is well documented.
I think the flood of new Lindens who are bringing in world grudges, biases good and bad, and who act like they are members on a new found power trip because they became a Linden employee, makes it easier than ever to get the ear of a Linden to lobby your agenda.
I have heard horror stories recently and it does concern me that some of these stories could be true, however unless and until I am teleported to the spot when things happen I wont know if its true. But, if it is true that members are using in world friendships made with Lindens and their alts to exact revenge on other members, or conspire in IRC chat rooms with one another and Lindens to group together to enact their agenda, or exact revenge on other members, then the system is so corrupt that there is no one answer to Aimee's question. Chaos reins unchecked.
Personally it seems to me that LL delegates tasks or responsibilities to LL employees who are not supervised properly. The employee policies are posted in notecards distributed on the Linden Office land in world and none of these policies seem to be enforced by LL internally. The employee in charge or a project, reposponsibility or task, seems to enjoy autonomy to the point that she or he can disregard LL policies, and impose application of the TOS/CS, or not, subjectively.
How can LL expect the membership to respect the rules, the TOS/CS, when they themselves disregard the rules set into place...I reported one incident I know for a fact occured between a member and a Linden, one that violated the TOS/CS on the part of the member and the employee policies on the part of the Linden, and that report was ignored. No, I am not being paranoid, this really happened.
I have grown quite cynical about my desire to maintain fairness in SL. Right now I see confusion and chaos related to LL policy with very little desire for improvement. The LL focus is on George Washington's picture, and not his symbolism.

From: Hiro Pendragon 1. Show that your idea is in line with the long-term goals of LL. A month later this is still heart stoppingly funny. Are these long-term goals available to us so that we can phrase our requests in adherence to them? How long have they been LL's long-term goals? No, seriously, I'm not laughing. Really I'm not. If we knew LL's long-term goals, we'd understand how the things they're doing month-by-month fit into the long-range plan. That'd be nice. Who's that snorting in the back row? Stop that!

Which ones are you talking about? From: katykiwi Moonflower The employee in charge or a project, reposponsibility or task, seems to enjoy autonomy to the point that she or he can disregard LL policies, and impose application of the TOS/CS, or not, subjectively.
Do you have any evidence to support this statement? How would a user get any evidence to support such a statement?

In all seriousness, and I am ignoring all of the "humerous quips" in this thread, there is a way to get the Linden's attention and I have done it. Invite them to your place and ask them for their advice on how to make it better.
You can also volunteer your texture crazy location as a place to test upgrades at.
Believe me it works.

From: Adam Linden Booze. ;P Adam That was real professional of you Adam. Responses like that certainly inspire confidence in the Linden Lab staff. Maybe that's why the inventory system loses people's valuable possessions?
