Here is a political question, albeit a softball What is the best way to influence the Lindens? We have seen people lobby for a wide range of features and policy changes in SL such as P2P, neg-rates, prim taxes or Fullbright. Some of these issues pass and some are rejected. My question is … What seems to be the most effective way to present your case to the Lindens to bring about change? Love letters or ranting? Lobby groups or one-on-one? Forum Polls or Forum Pie? I know there is a huge potential for some snickering posts in this thread Go on, get it out of your system. But be sure to also include some wisdom from your experience. What have you seen work, and what seems to fall flat. Discuss!

I'll capture the Lindens for L$50. I'll reprogramme them for L$150. I'll switch 'em for lookalikes to implement your policies, for L$250.

It seem's that the squeaky wheel gets the oil. So forum posting and polls i think seem to influence LL.

In my urban planning program, my professors always tell us the easiest way to find out who's really making the decisions is to "follow the money".
This isn't to say that the Lindens are greedy people, but they do have a business to run.
Anyone with enough money to toss at them will be heard moreso than someone who's on a basic account (or even a small tier holder).
Just my theory anyway, given recent accusations in the forums.

Actually, I think the whole thing is probably pretty random. It depends on the time of the day, which Linden you are in contact with, and whether you use paragraphs or not.

I am convinced they don't listen to a word we say as a group. They do however pluck random dumb ideas out the air every now and then and implement them badly on a whim.

The best way to influence the lindens is to create an alt on a different account and pose as a newbie. Those who whine about the FIC would be surprised how many times in SL history LL took drastic steps as a result of newbies whining about this and that. P2P anyone?

I am an art lover, and I find that Philip also shares my appreciation.
Specifically, we both seem to share the same affinity for pocket-sized reproductions of Benjamin Franklin portraits. I find that if I send Philip a physical letter that both recommends a new course of action and also includes several of these reproductions -- which we both lovingly term Benjamins -- he is very receptive to implementing my suggestions.
It is my understanding that these portrait reproductions are not impossible for others to get ahold of. You may wish to try the approach I have outlined here.
Best of luck!

i respectfully disagree, bri. surely the lindens don't listen to the very small percentage that read and write the forums. if that were true there would be no club culture any more. i list that as one small example. also, if that were true, the horrendous lag and texturing problems introduced by the lindens lately would be being fixed rather than the lindens preparing us for another newer version of sl.
and lordfly if your take on it were true the coming telehub erasure would not be happening either.
i think that there is no way for us to influence the lindens. the sl thing is being worked on without a lot of consideration for the players.

From what I've heard, the Lindens see what Anshe Chung is doing then rip off her ideas.

I'm not entirely convinced that we as a group and/or as in individuals, influence the lindens based solely on our ideas and rants. I think they base their decisions to implement a feature mostly on ability. There are alot of things that are rejected because they are not able to do it. Some recent things that I've seen lately that have had an influence on the lindens by the residents is forum changes and P2P. However, these changes were not new changes. The classified section used to be no reply and SL used to have P2P. The best way to influence a linden is with lots of alcohol and a little less whining. MJ
