Slander your opposition with lies and half truths and rant like a 3rd grader with a complex vocabulary.

When I want to influence Lindens I usually contact them in some medium and say "Well Aimee thinks X, and Aimee thinks Y" where X and Y is what I really think!

I hate marzipan too!

My German friend brought me Mozart Kugeln, (filled with Marzipan) and it makes me retch! Sorry Jenny, but I had to give them away to someone who can handle things that rich!

Anyway, everyone knows Aimee thinks Z. just look at Eggy's sig pic - YUCK! ;)

As far as the topic at hand - I think being reasonable, using the propositions tool (however lacking it may be), town halls, the forums, and yes *gasp* even having the "gall" to speak directly to a Linden about a concern, will get you an ear. I do not think that there exists one method that is better than others. I think it boils down to several avenues or combinations thereof, and honey, not vinegar.

Somewhere along the line, a thought process has emerged (from a growing number of rather cynical folks) that if you use honey, you're a suck-up. I think it depends on how far you go. Moderation is your friend, and one will surely not have a lot of luck in the long run wielding a vinegar filled Super Soaker.

ha ha ha jokes on me for taking the topic seriously. i'll know better next time.

marzipan wouldn't be so bad if it didn't have all that almond paste spread over it.

If you really want to influence the lindens, just find an exploit or bug that will crash many sims or allow you to break permissions on objects, and you'll get a patch for it asap ;)

Well comic relief is fun but this IS a serious question. :D

I think it would really help if people shared past experiences. Something to the effect of "These were the steps supporters took regarding ISSUE A...and as you can see, it PASSED/FAILED" Even better if they add a little bit of "Here is what I would have done differently today..."

And this is a totally serious answer: in over two years of watching LL do their thing they have appeared utterly insensate to almost all petitions from just about any source. There are only two times when I recall a matter of customer concern getting implemented:
  1. Permissions changes that prevented clothing designs from being freely copyable by any purchaser - this was good as it allowed the clothing market to boom
  2. prim hoarding and the Olive experiment that ultimately tied prim allocation to land
I've seen a lot of attempts to influence the direction of development and policy but if there had been successes they were not widely known.

Uhmm..., let's see.
  1. Decide on what you want changed.
  2. Write a feature request and give a well thought out solution to fix it, and keep it secret.
  3. start a couple rant/discussion threads.
  4. Post your feature request a week later.(with alteration if someone said something smart in prior threads, not likely)
  5. Say that said feature request came to existance by large community participation.
  6. Point towards rant/discussion threads.
  7. Put it on the vote site.(you have to take all possible roads to LL attention, even the ones that don't seem to work.)
  8. Get support from as many people possible.
  9. Try to get the famous and notorious behind your plan.(sexual favours, money every kind of bribery is allowed)
  10. Grab any Linden you can find inworld but also IRC, bitch about the issue. They will say: "start a thread on the forum", or something else evasive.
  11. Throw your feature request, vote proposal and rant/discussion thread in their face.
  12. Tell them so and so supports your plan, eventhough you don't know them. (Don't use Aimee, some other people can use a reference once in a while aswell)
  13. repeat till you have atleast have made 5 Lindens aware of your hard work. (more is recommended)
  14. Pray to the Great Hippo.
  15. Chant softly "hippo, hippo, hippo" all day.
  16. While chanting, try to put your feature request in every conversation you have with anyone, even the non residents, convert them before they enter.
  17. Put a nicely designed banner in your forum sign that points people to your feature request.
  18. Find a way to connect every forum thread to your feature proposal, be creative.
  19. Keep doing this untill it is DONE and working as you intented. Don't stop on a approvel or a poor implementation.
  20. Pray to the Great Hippo.
  21. Chant softly "hippo, hippo, hippo" all day.
  22. If Declined, start a new rant/discussion thread and repeat, or cuddle up in a ball and cry softly in a corner.

This post is not referring to anyone. This gem comes from my own deranged mind.

1. Show that your idea is in line with the long-term goals of LL.
2. Show that if your idea is not accepted, things will get unscalable very quickly and could grind SL to a halt.
3. Show that your idea would be an easy technological fix to a common problem.
4. Make money in SL. LL respects people who have that vested interest.
5. Be part of the original old-skool Indigo crowd.
6. Have a double degree in weapons design and computer science from a branch of the military.
7. Don't be a jerk.
8. Bring up the issue over and over and over and over again. Make as many people possible agree that your idea is the best answer. Eventually the topic will come around. Have your idea ready and then rally the forums behind your idea.
9. Wait til you see a Linden reply to a thread, quote them, and present your (related) idea - they're way more likely to notice it.
10. Pay Linden Lab $8 million dollars.

OK, I'm taking notes for our Blumfield meeting: whine, alcohol, bribery, pecan pie, and from the looks of Pathfinder's office, lots of pizza.

Are any of us sure we know what the long-term goals of LL are?

If they are to foster resident commerce (suggested by all the SL marketing hype - come make $$), then why do we not have better business tools: more flexible permissions, greater protection for IP rights, better advertising tools, etc. AND ways to create a more diverse economy: tools to create real jobs not dependant on build/graphics/animate skills (contracts, arbitrations, tools to allow structure reselling).

Nope, possibly not even the Lindens do. Kinda hard to invoke a firm's self-interest when they may not have one.

What else is new with cry babies crabbing about Linden Labs Lindens :/
12-08-2005 09:08
1.) Sleep with them heheheh

2.) Kiss their butts ( seen this first hand ) OMG It was pure outright noticeable :/

3.) None of the above............why? because Lindens are people they make mistake just like us.

People who thinks lindens are (winable) think again. They too have their own set of rules a regualtions. If they screwup they get a earfull from their bosses. I have at times believed that LLabs lindens are favoritable with some. But really come on LLabs mangers are not stupid enought to hire people that they know will cause problems down the line. COME ON GET REAL:/

Well, here might be an example of resident-suggested but very minor changes. It seems as if the forums *would not* be an effective medium of communication with LL. /120/6d/47363/1.html

Not many of the names suggested seem to have made the final cut. (I, personally, was rooting for Siggy's list :D)

Here is a political question, albeit a softball :D What is the best way to influence the Lindens? We have seen people lobby for a wide range of features and policy changes in SL such as P2P, neg-rates, prim taxes or Fullbright. Some of these issues pass and some are rejected.

My question is … What seems to be the most effective way to present your case to the Lindens to bring about change? Love letters or ranting? Lobby groups or one-on-one? Forum Polls or Forum Pie?

I know there is a huge potential for some snickering posts in this thread :D Go on, get it out of your system. But be sure to also include some wisdom from your experience. What have you seen work, and what seems to fall flat. Discuss!

Dunno what do you do to get your way with the Lindens Aimee?

I'm not entirely convinced that we as a group and/or as in individuals, influence the lindens based solely on our ideas and rants. I think they base their decisions to implement a feature mostly on ability. There are alot of things that are rejected because they are not able to do it.

Some recent things that I've seen lately that have had an influence on the lindens by the residents is forum changes and P2P. However, these changes were not new changes. The classified section used to be no reply and SL used to have P2P.

The best way to influence a linden is with lots of alcohol and a little less whining. :)

MJ
So the people who live where they can ply them with alcohol get preferred treatment, huh?

For the record, anybody that lives where they can ply ME with alcohol WILL get preferred treatment by me.
