This is truly funny. I spent my drive into work seriously thinking about my picks and the 2 names I wanted to add to my list were yours and Jake Reitveld's. I'd spend some bucks to argue, I mean have a meaningful debate, with you. I'd spend lots if you showed up in a Che Guervera avatar. That'd be up there with Les White's Jimi Hendrix. Consider this a challange, Mister. :p

Well... what can I say to this charming bit of poofery, except... Ya got me! I surrender! ;)

(However, my argument stands. :D )

May I ask why the Lindens are not handling the proceeds of this event? I remember they offered themselves to do this very thing in regards to raising money for the Katrina Relief...
Maybe I am a bit paranoid, but I wouldn't want to participate in anything that is supposed to be a for a "good cause" unless I was 99.9% sure thats where the money was going to...
Now I am not saying the money will not go there, but why not take advantage of the security and the "free publicity" the Lindens offered?

You call that an argument? I read it as a rather common description of life in general, no need to tie it to SL specifically. I hope you find your sharp wit & intelligence come auction night, this isn't going to bring in the bucks. ;)

The Big Easy and Biloxi sims were ready to begin fundraising activities at a time when the Lindens were dealing with the griefer crashing of the system and the 1.7 upgrade. These things took a higher priority then the support of this or any other fundraising drive and rightfully so, imo. I put forth my alt account, Ginny Martini, for the collection of funds so that verification by LL would confirm that no monies have been removed from this account over the fundraising interval (including the $500 weekly stipend) and that the final balance is the amount paid to the Red Cross.

Your post count says "350".

Including this thread, I have responded to you in exactly "2" threads.

And in both threads, you had to tell me that it wasn't appropriate. I thought that was for the forum moderator to decide, not a fellow resident.

From: Hiro Pendragon
In this case, this is one where it has been done before, and people had pointed out before that it is a popularity contest thread that tends to make people feel left out, and other people had already pointed it out, and I even pointed out why it'd be an advantage for you to do it privately - that you'd get more honest replies.

First, this is not a popularity contest. A name can be well-known while the person attached to it is not popular at all. I'm sure Ol F. would agree.
This is a thread to get some ideas on who to ask to participate in a public auction for fundraising purposes. People should not feel left out. As Taco says, everyone is a celebrity. However, we are limited in how many people we can auction off in a two-hour period.

If your thread was only an attempt to help, then why couldn't you have taken your own advice and IMed me privately to express your opinion?

Well, celebrity or not, I am willing to give a few hours of my time for whatever.

I am an accomplished Builder (Architect, Jeweler (Art Deco Style), Fine Art, Anything with a Techno-organic flair).

I am also fairly versed in Scripting and Landscaping

On top of that, I have a nightclub that I am willing to offer as a place to hold special events. For whomever wins me at auction, if they choose to have me perform thus, I will promote their event and use the resources at my disposal to provide superlative event service.

Katt: If need be, I am willing to be sold up to three(3) times at up to two hours each

Of course, if I ain't famous enough to rake in the cash, I understand. I am still willing to help with locations for events, promotion of the event or staff coordination; just let me know.

Alain, you're on. And I'm going to bid on you myself. ;)

For the record, I've always found "the emperor has no clothes" argument to be perhaps the most effective and pragmatic approach to character deflation - however obvious the argument, and the need to deflate various characters around here, might be to the rest of us.

Now, if you want deep thoughts, give me a deep subject. :p

Do the textures that you used to illustrate shading change when the RL sun crosses the sky?

I've been put in charge of organizing a SLebrity Auction, which will take place Saturday, Nov. 19. Since I don't know of any celebrities, I need your help. Who do you think is a celebrity? Who would you bid on?

I have to agree that the term "Celebrity" has become rather wide-spread as the world gets bigger.

But I think there's still a few major celebrities that many people know.

Nephiliane Protagonist
Aimee Weber
Francis Chung
Torley Torgenson
Anshe Chung
Prokofy Neva (though god only knows why you'd want to pay for THAT)

The question there is when you're looking for celebrities is whether you could even get them, Nephiliane and Francis are usually busy, Torley would probably do it, Aimee might too, Anshe really doesn't even play SL I think, I think she just logs on for sales and what not, and Prokofy would probably have some kind of "FIC" objection to it.

I've always thought that a painfully obvious approach is the best for deflating egos - and "the emperor has no clothes" argument is embarrassingly obvious.

Besides, I hear a lot on these forums about how intelligent, perceptive, and talented people here are, compared to the dreary pavement-trudgers and office-goons of real life. And yet, here are these deluges of high-school-prom-level popularity threads, verbal gang-rape threads, threads based on misinformation - deliberate and accidental, threads based on intolerance for opposing views, threads made by prim-a-donnas and preen-a-donnas, and threads made for the fun of sharpening one's claws on the bones of someone else's indiscretion .

All of them so... well... stupifyngly familiar to those of us who have real lives.

So "tying a rather common description of life in general to Second Life" makes the point rather nicely, thank you very much. Besides, if you want deep thoughts from me, you'll have to give me a deep topic. ;)

Rather than just complling a list of my friends, I took a more historical perspective and came up with a list of members who have had a lasting impact on SL. All of the contributions these members have brought to SL have become an integral part of the SL experience.

Here they are with the reason why I included them (in no particular order:)

1. Chip Midnight: Brought photorealistic skins to SL

2. Anshe Chung: Set the stage to show that a viable, profitable business can exist in SL

3: Baccara Rhodes: Brought elaborate event planning and very special events to SL

4: BigJohn Jade: Brought the concept of a sustained entertaining club to SL

5: Marilyn Murphy/Siobhan Taylor: Brought dance to SL

6: Sensual Casanova: One of the first to successfully introduce a multi funciton island sim with shopping, games, sports, and events

7: Mistress Midnight/Nephelaine Protagonist: Brought style and interest to fashion

8: Cristiano Midnight: Snapzilla Man

9: Prokofy Neva/Ulrika Zuzgwang: Brought intellectual controversy to a new height

10: Bub Linden: Brought humor and humanized LL

11: Merwan Marker: Perpetuated a friendly message of welcome to all new SL members

12: Abramelin Wolfe: Under his original account introduced many animations and dances to SL and happens to be the SL partner to the very famous beautiful katykiwi Moonflower.. :D

13: David Valentino: Brought the bare, muscled, tattooed male chest to SL , with long dark hair....wow!! thank you David! :D

14. Briana Dawson: Brought the first real shopping mall to SL..The Galleria

Eash of us in our own way has added to the Sl experience, and to me the above members have enriched SL for us all. THANKS GUYS!!

Katt, maybe evoking the term SLebrity wasn't the best PR move. I would rephrase it as "Which users, if auctioned, would likely bring the most amount of money for charity" The big yielders need not be popular or anything. Hopefully that will avoid some of the emotional explosions from the minefield of SL politics.

Btw, this is not about who's popular; it's about who people would pay money in an auction setting in order to spend some time with. Most likely, people are going to do that to meet someone who is accomplished in SL. If that person is also "popular" it is likely because they have done good stuff which has brought them to the attention of many people. This can also occur for someone at the other extreme who is notorious. People would find that to be an interesting conversation, too. You will find many of the people listed here neither to be popular nor notorious; they are what is called respected in their field. Can we not cite people for whom we hold enough respect to be willing to pay for their time in this public forum? Are people who might feel left out wanting to get up on a stageand stand next to them to be bid upon?

I agree and disagree with you at the same time. :)

I see a list of forum big mouths along with some who should truely be on the list.

Of course I am not on the list. All I have done in Second Life is to create the most pleasing natural settings in existence. I mean who cares about beauty when you can have bling and flash?

The SLebrity Auction was not my idea. I was asked to organize it and host it. I said yes, even though Phoenix and I are ill and struggling to get the paper out this week, because I have an irritating inability to say no. :)

I had this discussion inworld and we came to the same the conclussion. Only problem it is a bit long of a title for PR, but i could have been used for the Thread title. But that's to late.
You would think people would read the thread and see that we are looking for just that. :p

LOL Katt, nice of you, now i feel guilty.
