Of all places:

There are plots on Caledon that ban not just non-verified but people with payment on file. ie. type 1.

Thought one:
While I somewhat support the blanket ban for someone selling adult materials in order to establish an argument of making your best effort with the tools available to minimise a minor's exposure to said adult materials, no matter how flawed it may be, I have -yet- to see a porn shop in Caledon.

Thought two:
Do push disables interfere with the trolleys or the touring blimps?

Thought three:
I have a verified, info used alt. I will cruise around in newb wear and see the treatment I get.
I will get an unverified alt and experiment with this as well.

Thought four:
I encourage other Caledonians to whip up an unverified and see what your neighbours are -truly- like.

~Kami, who unless something defaulted didn't even disable push.

Hello Mr Morrison –

I am sorry you happened upon some ban lines in Caledon. I don't believe there is any specific "rule" against ban lines, but I can tell you from what I know of Desmond and how the plots of land are set up... he would be fully against them.

If any citizen felt the need to have some kind of ban in place, Desmond would rather talk with that resident and find some other way to handle any problems or concerns that come up regarding the need for ban lines.

While Desmond is on vacation, he has left most the day to day care of Caledon to me and a small group of trusted friends. Please contact me in world this evening if you are able to remember where these ban lines are, and I will try to remedy the reason for the resident putting up the lines.

Serra

Hi Serra,

I've sent you coordinates to the properties that banned non-verified the ones that banned "Payment info on file" in PM.

Thanks.

Doesn't the trolly run outside people's properties? In that case I don't think disabling push would have an effect on the trolly.

Since this feature was implemented, I thought it was a better way to stop griefers than using the whitelist.

Maklin, by far the majority of unverified new people I've seen this past month are either Brazilian or European (a few Oriental). How can you say all that with such certainty when other nations' credit rules and companies can differ so much? Until I try to get a credit or debit card in Hungary that is accepted by LL, I don't feel like I could be that judgmental.

I have been griefed enough in clubs that I would prefer to do without their presence. I have ZERO problem being judgemental on this....pre 6/6, I was involved in an in-club griefing incident perhaps once every couple months....after 6/6 and before push changes it was every WEEK at least once....and of the various griefers I looked up in find, 1 in 10 was verified....the rest were unverifieds.

I don't have to be a statistician to know my odds of getting griefed go WAY up when unverifieds are around, so it is quite easy for me to judge them as potential griefers...it would be silly to ignore things I have been witness to and jump to their defense. How hard it is in their country doesn't interest me....the fact they cause most of the problems anymore interests me.

Yup, if you've banned unverifieds, you've banned the Suzanne Vega.
Betcha don't feel so clever and smug now....

Oh darn, I feel terrible now, and I bet Suzanne really wanted to come check out my poseball collection too!!

Thank god on #1 - I shudder at the thought of victorian-polite Xcite! parts.

#2 - No, I have driven personal vehicles all over push disabled sims. Work fine. :)

#3 - So far, I have done the same and have been treated very nice by residents. I don't think it is so much a behavior problem as land use issue.

#4 - I will be very polite until the second I see a gun. Unverifieds always raise danger flags...and Gun + unverified == griefer. At that point, I would ask them to take it off or leave, still politely if somewhat cool.

Since I scripted them I can fairly safely say "no" - the trams are non-physical anyway, and the balloons don't use push, they're vehicles. (In fact, no-push would stop people from pushing them around to make a nuisance of themselves.)

What interferes with the trams and balloons is actually if they pass over a parcel which doesn't have enough prims to support them - it used to be the case that there was a "grace period" which allowed a vehicle to go overhead, but now, there isn't. However, if anyone is sitting on them, they won't be affected by that, so nobody will get arbitrarily returned to my inventory.

Later I found out that the manager thought this newbie was someone who came to blow up the store, just cause he looked new and had a account less than a week old. Sadly, the newbie was just trying to fix his av and get better outfit/skin/shape, hooked him up with some LM's and he was happy.

I'm glad you did that. I've not been on very long and yet I've seen how new people get treated. And let's be honest, there might be newbie griefers but usually it's people too old and jaded and bored who go out organising chaos.

Esp some with lifetime accounts ...

Does that mean that lifetime account holders should also be banned? Seems unfair that some people can cause hassle and never get truly dealt with (yes I am thinking of someone in particular here).

I'm willing to match griefing experience with anyone short of Yiffy, and I disagree.

I manage a popular adult club, which fits the profile of "places most likely to be griefed", and it was insane after 6/6. But once LL instituted MAC address hashing, for some odd strange reason griefing began to fall -- which led me to believe that a lot of those idiots were actually anonymous alts.

My personal survey of twits and griefers tells me less than half were unverifieds - not 90%. And now that we can turn off push weapons on our parcel, weapons-related griefing has dropped even more. In the meantime, we've added a large number of fun new people who are unverified but who are here for many of the same reasons as you and I. They participate, they're curious, courteous and genuinely add to the community. How fair is it to ban them simply because they can't get credit info to LL?

Except that I don't think they cause most of the problems - not since LL implemented the two steps I mentioned above. Our AR rate has fallen from 6 to 10 per night to less than one per night since the last update added the push toggle. That's pretty close to pre-6/6 numbers, IMO.

Actually, it might be fascinating, in a bizarre sort of way, to see how Xcite! items would talk if they were written in the style of Victorian erotica...! :D

Good point, Lucifer... I don't ban unverifieds because I don't like to judge people based on just that. I've met some very cool people by talking to brand new residents... like you, for example. :D

I just ban people on a name-by-name basis, and that only when they do something annoying enough to be worthy of it.

For me, it would depend upon just how incredible a jerk he is. If he's - to my way of thinking - an incredible jerk, well - I find incredible jerks fascinating, in much the same way I find badly coded systems that produce interesting and enlightening bugs fascinating. Once he becomes a routine jerk, then my fascination dissolves, and off he goes.

Stories about the guy, might be slightly incorrect in details because this is from memory, but the essence of them should be correct.

At a court(not sure if the exact organism) session, he falls asleep. Somebody pokes him: "Está usted dormido" (You're asleep). He replies "No señor, estoy durmiendo" (no sir, I'm sleeping). When asked what's the difference he clarifies: "No es lo mismo estar dormido que estar durmiendo, como no es lo mismo estar jodido que estar jodiendo." (Being asleep is not the same as sleeping, like being f***ed is not the same as f***ing"

At some other important gathering, he farts, then loudly says to a woman sitting next to him: "Don't worry, we'll tell them it was me"

It was once shown on TV how a girl tried to ask him for an autograph. His reaction to be given a pen with a cap in place was something like "F***, remove the condom!". Poor girl was shocked.

He also appeared on TV (IIRC, when asked about his hobbies) saying that he can anally absorb several liters of water. I don't really want to know what was that about.

It's hard to really describe because he died some years ago, but from the TV and various stories like that he sounded like a guy that was very unpleasant to have around.

Is there a policy on ban lines at Caledon? I believe the Desmond Shang is still out of the country right?

Caledon residents are free to ban whoever they like, as long as it's not Desmond (which would be silly anyway). At least, they were last I looked.

For myself, I don't do it, but I have no particular qualms with doing so should it become a problem. On the other hand, I don't expect it to be, because it can be handled at the sim or nation level.

OK - so? What's so bloody special about the Suzanne Vega?

I suppose she's some sort of celebrity. Personally 'celebrities' make me want to puke.

'Hey! Lookit ME! I'm 'famous''...

<shrug> So 'kin what?

lots of famous people do not do this, it is their fans who do it to them:/

I didn't ban them before - but now I'm gonna start.

Last thing I need is that 'my name is luka' shit being encouraged.

That doesn't quite resolve it for me, as the thread has conflicting info, none of which comes directly from Desmond. I'll have to wait until I get inworld to figure out the current situation.

And to my thinking, the bit I paraphrased as "whoever they like" (from memory, since I can't look right now) covers both white and black lists.

Please speak to Serra Anansi, she is in charge of Caldeon till Desmond returns.
