1 million registered users? I know the stats show nearly 1,000 new users per day, but in my stints on Help Island I have seen nowhere near that number of people coming in. That's roughly 40 people per hour all day long. Sure, HI and the OI's do get busy but nowhere near that scale. I suspect a bit of data inflation is going on. And with the current server performance, I dread the prospect of that many registered users. The SL servers would never be able to keep up unless LL makes a massive investment in hardware.

You are quite mistaken. I made no accusations of acy sort about any wrongdoing. I asked a hypothetical question |

OMG! This thread is so ridiculous. Why do you waste your energy on threads that I'm not interested in? I mean, I know of examples of this type of situation where nothing untoward happened, so why would we bother discussing hypothetical abuses? Don't think for a minute that anyone in SL is the type of sleazy ass that we see in FL. And don't even suggest that a one million user base requires a tighter and more defined approach than a 50,000 or 100,000 user base. That is absurd. The same approach used in small town life where everyone knows one another can be applied to running NYC. Everyone knows this.
Sheesh. I can't take all the useless drahma! I'm never writing this post again! GOOD DAY, SIR! _____________________

A million customer registered user base is described as being a target at http://www.secretlair.com/index.php?/clickableculture/entry/second_life_population_goal_1_million_users_in_2006/ Here's a quote from Philip Rosedale on expected or desired user base growth: Philip Linden: Hmm... OK let me think for a moment…Well a few factors... right now in the US less than half of the internet users have broadband and maybe half of those could use SL. We will not explore, IMO, until this number is >50%. This because once you are over 50%, you will strongly refer SL to friends, because you will know that it is more than likely that they can use SL. So that particular point will get passed within the next 24 months or so.... broadband is at over 40%, and the next wave of PC's will be 100% able to run SL. So we need to mostly wait out one consumer PC adoption cycle. The next big factor is time and content. Today is takes maybe 10 hours to really 'get' what SL is all about. We need that number to be <1HR to go ballistic. I believe that the problem can be solved in two ways... one is that the content is SL simply gets more compelling... and that is already happening and is driven by the residents. The second is we need to make the software better and easier to get into fast. I believe that we can do that is less than one year, and, by-the-way, that the online games will not be able to do it. So OK... let me wrap this into a prediction. I think that SL will continue to grow rapidly over the next year.... but will not enter into consumer mainstream usage. But beyond 24 months, we will have solved the hardware and usage time problems. And we will them see a real 'tip' into the consumer market. So, giving us a bit of wiggle room, I'd say that SL will have 1M users in about 3 years. Hows that? It is possible that the forum Resident Moderator experiment is related to expectations of dramatic future growth and thus massive increase in forum post quantity. _____________________

I think Suezanne's original question is an important one to ask. I expected it, in fact, and I'm glad that she has written it in a very non-threatening kind of way. ^_^
If I were ever to come into question about my actions, I would be disappointed if I were given some kind of unfair advantage over another resident. Torley and I have discussed dissolving our partnership over this new Linden status. Doing so wouldn't have any effect on our relationship, however, so why not simply be up front and honest about it? It's a tricky situation, and we don't want to disappoint anyone. Thoughts? _____________________

I think Torley has earned the trust of our community and the benefit of any doubt up to and until a breach of faith with the community as a whole occurs, which I hasten to add, I think is highly unlikely. Torley is a infectious happy-making quality and I can only assume you as her partner share in that on some level. I'd carry on and not worry over a potential unless and until it occurs. |

Thoughts? Frankly, I think LL won't hesitate to throw the book at you should any of your actions come into question, so as not to show favouratism. I wouldn't be surprised if they would be tougher on you. Happily though Jade, I doubt they will ever have to do it, as you and Torley are very good peoples. _____________________
