There is a new Linden staff member whose previous regular user identity is well known.
This former civilian user has made known, quite repeatedly, his "romantic" relationship with another user avatar.
Suppose that you have some problem in regards to the partner of this new Linden staff member that impels you to file an abuse report.
Do you think you will get a fair shake when the problem comes up for review by the Linden abuse staff, or might there be a bit of bias?

I find these mixed relationships to be nothing but trouble, which is why I only pursue wealthy Venezuelans.

They probably would not let Torley deal with it since she knows the person so well.

New empoyee might be able to verify truth or falsehood of claims because of personal relationship. Ignore truth because of possible impropriety?

Do you think every Linden knows about an AR, or a warning? Plus I don't think Torley deals with these types of things (feel free to prove me wrong).

Considering the Linden in question has been assigned to the Community Team, I don't think there is significant cause for concern in this specific case.
If anything, I think the partner of said Linden would be held to the letter of the TOS/CS even more tightly by Linden if it came up - just to maintain any personal sense of impartiality.

to many 'what ifs' in the thread. We can all come up with 'what ifs' Until I see a problem I see no need to create them.

Current task assignment != possible future task assignments. Holding people to higher standards because of relationships with Linden staff members !- impartiality. From: Toy to many 'what ifs' in the thread. We can all come up with 'what ifs' Until I see a problem I see no need to create them. Dealing with "what ifs" is called foresight. It's usually better to think about potential problems than it is to wait for them to happen and deal with the aftermath.

Interesting question. Probably more theoretical than practical, though.
I think new circumstances can easily force a change in the ToS/Lindens Policy if needed. What has been mentioned on the forums: 'Lindens's decisions are final, no place for appeal'. So anyone's should be affected badly by such decision, tough luck.
If there's will, the ToS/Policy changes... Easy.

One can rest assured that if the problem is not dealt with in advance then it will be discussed after something that strikes someone as bad happens, in public, and at great length, and with extra scoops of animosity and furor.

Sorry, this just seems like a witch hunt. I am not going to be concerned with this, if there is proof this will or has happened then I may be concerned. Trust is a great thing and I do trust both LL and the Lindens

And no Lindens have ever had members that they have considered friends before? No Linden has ever recruited a family member, loved one or partner to SL before? There is no more reason to think this is an issue now than before. Issues like this come up in every organization of any size. I expect they will deal with it like adults. I see no reason to expect anything different.

And suppose it did turn out to be a problem, or is currently? What solution would there be, to prevent this person from getting ahead in life and having the outstanding opportunity to work for a cutting edge company just because she met someone and fell in love? Fire her after the fact? Ban the the resident?
I don't understand the motive behind asking this question. I for one am very happy for the new Linden in question even though I don't know her. I've read about her situation and I think it takes some gumption to want to tarnish her achievements this way. She should be proud of her accomplishments, and from what I hear about her, LL is lucky to have her.

this is a non-issue. i think LL has enough sense to have involved liasons recuse themselves from a conflict or investigation.
the new linden you are referring to would certainly do so without being asked
your foresight might just be paranoia

SuezanneC; I see your point as being a conflict of interest issue. Please correct me if I am assuming wrong here. My post is based on that assumption. I think you have a valid point and I think it's something we be aware of when one of us regular subscribers becomes a Linden. It would be in the best interest of all if we looked at those associated with new Lindens on a case by case basis. In this particular case I know the person in question. I can say that there would be zero conflict of interest. I trust this persons judgement and admire their accomplishments in SL. This person in question, should not be called into question. MarCat

I think it's an honest question, though perhaps the funny side wins the day. Resident Partner: I'd like to file an abuse report. Impropriety Linden: Of course - against who? Resident Parter: You, of course. Impropriety Linden: Ok, I'll get on that right away. Any evidence to submit? Resident Partner: Yes - our chat log of yesterday. Ah, do you happen to have it? Impropriety Linden: Yes, right here. I'll append that for you. Resident Partner: And the screenshot with the pose ball, and the escort? Impropriety Linden: Let me check my inventory... ok, here we go. Resident Partner: Also... a question. Is the phrase "Who wants to live forever, babay!" possibly a breach of professionalism? Impropriety Linden: I'd say it likely is. I'll file this AR right away for you. Resident Partner: Ok, great. What are we doing tomorrow? Impropriety Linden: If I don't suspend myself, we can go to the FIC barbeque, but right now it looks like I won't be able to make it...

From: Martin Magpie This person in question, should not be called into question.
The recent public change of a resident into a Linden staff member is a first try, an experiment, according to statements made a Linden staff member. One assumes that public transition to Linden status will happen again with other residents if the experiment is deemed a success. I am not expressing any concern at all with the actions or character of particular people. My post is directed at the situation in the abtract, not in regard to the only particular case of this situation there is at the present. I expect people to be able to figure out that a question might use a concrete example as an instance of a general case without having to explain such a thing every time an example is used in such a manner. Oh, me, I have just had another bad thought, sigh, having Linden staff members able to have publically known romantic partners means that there may at some point be someone who becomes the spurned, jilted, two-timed, cuckolded former partner of a Linden staff member. just think of the complaining that that could produce.
