From: Jonas Pierterson Some land is bought specifically for group sanctuary. All you would do with this is increase the numbers of security orbs that eject. This causes more lag in the sim..whereas proper security built into the land would PREVENT lag. Jonas, we are going to disagree fundamentally on this issue no matter what. I won't be changing your mind and you won't be changing mine. I think that security systems when no owner or group officer is on the parcel are just wrong and destroy every promise of an open and shared platform that SL was designed for.

Then perhaps you should endorse the built in security tools rather than neutering them as your suggestion would. They pay for the land, you have no say if its open and shared.

From: Siobhan Taylor I think the ban lines should be visible from the inside of the parcel too... Maybe it would stop people being such asshats with them. Best idea EVER! coco

How depressing. More people have voted for restoring push than removing these ugly ban lines.

From: Bizarre Berry How depressing. More people have voted for restoring push than removing these ugly ban lines. Possibly because we need to keep the griefers out of our land. Yes i know it looks bad when lots of people use NoAccess lines keeping everyone out. Now if someone complains about ban lines becausse their on the parcels ban list, then they probably shouldnt have done whatever they did to get on it in the first place.

If everyone does NOT vote to get rid of the ugly lines, I WILL hunt you down in the game and orbit you!!! You have to come off your land sometime (Yiffy just seeing the red line not the actual ability) Seriously its icky looking, I really don't like seeing it.. And while we are talking about icky looking things.. the frigging plywood monument behind my property that my big bay window looks out on is still there... Suggestions on how to string these people up by their toes and get them to at least color it?

Yiffy, the existence of the ugly, red "no entry" lines has nothing to do with "keeping griefers out of our land." This is not a proposal to get rid of bans or access restrictions, but rather to give people the option to make those monstrously ugly lines invisible so they don't destroy our views.

From: Xplorer Cannoli I dont see ban lines, unfortunately. I have a neighbor or two or dozens, not sure, but when I move slightly in the air over his property, I am taken about 4000-7000 meters away to the corner of my sim. X I have run into this also. It happens a lot when a person has bans in place and they are right on the edge of a sim. Instead of bouncing me back into the sim I just came from, it throws me across the sim.

I'm going to say something that is probably going to be unpopular with land owners--and it is only what I wish and not what I really think should happen, because I think people should be able to to do what they want on and with their land.
I -wish- that the world was split up into two sections: public land and private land (like the private land is the whole NW corner of the world and the public land is the rest, and on the mini map and the main map, the private section of the world would be colored red)--the private land areas can only be used as private land, and the public land areas can only be used as public land--this way nobody who is just flying around the map could accidentally go to an area that they're not wanted in (and get banned just for being somewhere, although the option to ban for that sort of a reason would still be open to the land owners as it is now), they won't have to look at ugly ban/access lines, and the people that want to be anti-social/anti-public can be as anti-social/anti-public as they want.
Again, this is just wishful thinking, and the reality is something completely different.
Now, here's what's a more realistic thing that still will probably make some people angry, but it's only my opinion:
Since the reality is the way it is, I think people should be able to set 3d boundaries on their land, and those boundaries should be completely opaque from both sides--with mountain scenes with trees as the texture, or customizable textures, but completely opaque. If people want their land privatized, then people on the outside shouldn't be able to see inside it.

i really have no problems with the lines except when im trying to save prims and use an alpha texture, its soo nice to see "NO ENTRY" on every square inch of a wall get rid of the stupid lines, keep the functionality, besides it pops up a nag message anyway

Fa nyak indirectly just gave me an interesting idea in her post in the thread entitled "Open source? WTF does that mean.".
Although I don't know if it's feasible or not, the pricing situation would have to be radically modified for this to work, and it's a radical concept:
Two adult-able grids--one is all private, and one is all public. No more problems with "ugly" ban/boundary lines.
Just an idea--an extreme radical idea. Please don't be mad at me for it, it's just an idea, one that I have no idea whether it's feasible or not.

I think Ihave read all these carefully but no one mentioned this as far as I can see... my neighbor had those wonderful lines up and they appeared about a third of the way into my house. We inspected the land closely and when you were at the property lines, the banlines were in the correct place but due to whatever, they still went right through my home. I had to move the house. I asked the owner of the land if we could come to some agreement about it and he was very nasty. Oh well. But on the other hand, I love to zoom around the world looking for interesting things to explore or places to shop and I really dislike this jarring slam I get hitting them. And sometimes it seems impossible to get around them to even get to a store. Must be hard on the store owners. And I agree totally with someone above me who said the whole thing might be solved by doors and walls that actually worked. I have to smile when I see home sellers talking about their great door locking systems. Does anyone except the very newest of residents not know how to camera in and sit on something? Locked doors are useless. I started to complain about something else but remembered this is a thread. I am proud of me.

We should have the choice, I want to see ban lines as far as my draw limit allows. I want to know where security orbs are operating. I want to avoid land where residents dont want me to visit. I dont want to visit these places any more than they want me to visit. Those that want to live in the Barney world would be able to turn off these lines and only see the beauty of second life. laugh Of course as a matter of policy, I ban all users of white lists and alarm mode security orbs from my property. Yes having the freedom of choice on this would make most residents happy.
