Has anyone else noticed that SL had doubled it's demands on bandwidth and CPU usage?

Since the latest nerf ... er imrpovements I and others in my community have noticed that SL has approximatly doubled its demands on the computer's resources i.e GPU and CPU, and also doubled its demands on our bandwidth, I am downloading upwards of 70 megs an hour when the same activities and 'SLifestyle' used to only use 30 - 50 megs an hour and the high end of that was IF I listened to streaming music.
some of my friends cannot even stay in SL as the new 'client behavior' is almost burning out their video cards. I have no idea what they brok... er improved this time but I wish to hell they would put it back the way it was before the last bug... er features were introduced.
why are they making it even MORE unusable while charging even MORE money for it?

I've noticed no difference, apart from fewer crashes. I've been downloading movies quite happily at the same time as building things and having mail/browser/etc open.

Maybe Runitai Linden has been given a back hander by the MD at Nvidia to convince Philip to let him add ripple water and destroy our beloved FPS. This forces us all to upgrade our computers.
There's something very fishy going on.

From: Mystic Soothsayer ...why are they making it even MORE unusable while charging even MORE money for it? More unusable reflects my experience but I don't see why you say more money. Decreased performance results in less value for the money or even makes it not worth paying for but the fees haven't changed.

Well if they make it more unusable then yes it is costing MORE money, more money to further upgrade a system that would run Anarchy online, world of warcraft, and everquest II simultaniously...
seems rediculous that a beast of a machine that can do ALL of that, cannot adequatly run this client, when exactly 6 days ago it ran it quite well.
also more bandwidth usage = more money for some of us...
so it is costing MORE... on top of the fact that they already chage 4x the going rate for most multi user worlds (that is if you decide to have a decently sized plot of land you can actually DO something with)
SL is expensive, humungously enjoyable when they aren't er fixing it, but its getting MORE expensive the more they fix it... I was basically just wondering if anyone else was noticing the same things I and some of my community were noticing.

I see what you mean; it is costing more but the extra money isn't going to LL. There is a thread in the Current Version Feature Feedback forum which speaks of decreased performance, but not the bandwidth and cpu issue. /142/b0/84876/1.html

I sorta limp along with my dell dimension E510... its just a 3gig processor 1.5 gig 533ghz ram, nvidia Geforce 6600 with 256mb, windows xp media center (ugh) and uhm direcway professional package satellite connection because I live on top of a mountain at 2800 feet with the national forest all around me lol with the increase in bandwidth usage in the last 5 or 6 days I have had to decrease the amount of time I actually spend in SL ... if the trend continues I can see that pretty soon i wont be able to be there at all *sigh*

The way SL has sometimes justified their analysis of performance improvement is if the statistical average has improved.
I think this a rather unfortunate way of doing things, because they could end up breaking everyone in SL at some point (so, basically upsetting everyone some of the time), and still see constant improvement.
In fact, they could even end up upsetting all their paying customers and yet making life just fine for all their non paying customers .. and still see statistical improvement.
Though one might hope that they track those stats a bit more carefully so that doesn't happen.

I assume you are talking about the blue rectangle at the bottom right of the Snapzilla page that makes it so easy to have a perfectly fitting picture in the forums.

There's something very fishy going on. Remind me to make a tinfoil hat and send it to you. /pissingcontest on AMD 64 X2 dual core 4400+ with 2GB DDR 4000 and 2x nVidia 7800GTX's in SLI configuration. /pissingcontest off (i win) Anyways, because of my rig I pretty much live with my Task Manager open, and can tell you I DO see this. Interestingly, both of my cores instead of just one are ramped up to around 80% load where it used to be around 60%. I think part of this may be the proliferation of people animating their houses. I have a wedding chapel going up in my neighborhood that the furries are building, and they made it rain rosepetals. Of course, the wind catches them and they end up all over the island. We also started seeing this get worse and worse after a windmill moved in next door to me.

Satellite connections are known for their rampant latency. I wonder if your poor user experience can be explained by this weak link? Your other components don't look so bad.

I'm glad you arrive in a box. That way I can more easily send you back.
Y'all's problem is you are actually trying to DO stuff in SL, and your computers are probably TOO good. On my 256 memory, etc., I do fine as long as I'm not actually in a store, at a party, or trying to go anywhere.
I don't upgrade my system at all - precisely because I keep hearing these constant stories about how everyone has these fantastic computers and half the time get worse FPS than I do! Splain that one! I can just imagine going to all this trouble to get a fancy expensive new computer with all the specs everyone thinks work well with SL, only to find out it's worse than before, or doesn't work at all. At least mine works for now, sorta.

Coco, that's mostly because people who buy expensive upgrades seldom have the intelligence to educate themselves on how to use them properly.
That or they do silly things like build computers that have a badass CPU with 3GB RAM, but a GeForce FX series or ATI 9800 Pro for a video card. You wouldn't believe how many people spend tons on upgrades and leave one component bottlenecked with "just ok" budget gear, then complain that the computer sucks. A *system* is only as strong as its weakest link. I still have an Athlon XP 1.8ghz that outperforms any shelf machine out right now that I just gave to my fiancee because, unlike shelf computers, it's balanced.
If you need handy tips on cheap upgrades, lemme know.

I will, Corvus. I wouldn't dream of getting a new computer without first asking everyone here what they recommend. As it is, I'm working up the nerve to order some more memory and install it. (Surely that won't hurt anything!) coco

Your other components don't look so bad. Actually believe it or not, when I am not butting heads with the fair access policy (which I never have until 6 days ago after being in SL since october) the professional package runs this very very well, I do speed tests every day and am at a constant 800+ kps down and 200 up, in the evening I even get up to 1mps down... the weather doesnt affect it either unless it snows and I forget to turn on the dish warmer they also just installed the newest bestest 3gigabit copper core cabeling between the dish and the modem and put in the hottest newest modem too... nope, I can honestly say, the satellite has been steadily out performing some of my friend's hard wired highspeed... the changes I have noticed have only been SINCE THE LATEST PATCH, in the last 5 to 6 days... and I havent changed anything connection or hardware wise in the last SIX days... and others are noticing this too. I know the bandwidth usage has doubled because I can track my bandwidth usage minute by minute thru my service usage charts.... and SL is the ONLY thing I run, when I am in here =)
