Game runs much slower for me now, plus other bugs

SL runs altogether slower now, with much more lag. So far, I haven't come up with any way to fix this.

In addition, the avatar culling turns out to be "small object" culling, such that small objects, such as a porch lantern, for instance, disappear when you get far enough away from the house to photograph it. This is with 64 draw distance, but previously I was able to photograph my houses.

I have also had small items disappear RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE, such that I can't work with them or click on them or anything, and have to relog. Apparently, once you have seen something as not there, getting closer to it doesn't make it come back. And - sometimes the small thing disappears right while you are standing right in front of it looking at it!

In addition:

. Edit linked part still does not work right
. The edit box has a habit of flipping itself to the wrong tab

coco

P.S. Crashing several times a night while trying to work, too.

I haven't spent a lot of time in game with the new client, but from the limited time I've spent with it, my frame rates are a lot higher. Also visiting clubs with lots of people no longer lags the crap out of me.

I'm happy with the changes so far.

I see we *still* have the cache problem, which I know is not peculiar to me.

Things stop rezzing, or take extended periods of time. If I clear my cache and relog, the textures load almost immediately.

I thought they were going to address this issue.

ah, that'll be your computers or something about your setup. couldn't possibly be the effect of any changes in SL.

Lag and rezzing, you say? I suggest you all go out and spend 400 bucks on a new video card. If that doesn't work, replace the pc.

After all, it works for other people! So it must be you!

It is your ISP! I mean your firewall! I mean your BIOS!

I mean this appears to be the least tested release of SL ever. As negative amounts of testing may violate several laws of the universe, it may hold that title for quite some time.

Do note, even though this is ostensibly a bug-fix, performance-enhancement patch only, SL has been tweaking parameters over the last 6 to 12 months to try and keep the world from falling apart under increasing load. Many of these consist of slowing down certain aspects of the client in order to keep aggregate load on the servers from increasing, thus ensuring a lesser experience for each player in exchange for the benefit of allowing SL to continue to work at all.

I can point to many things that support this claim, but I'm too tired now.

but but but :( I just upgraded two of my systems with the new geforce 512mb cards.

took me a while to find if anyone else was noticing this problem but I did find one thread.
/111/a3/84737/1.html#post864089

I have however given up on trying to run SL on my laptop now, I cannot stand running at 128 or below. No way. (its a 256 AMD)

I have noticed other little bugs and have reported them but the problems obviously stem from the program reading my card at half speed.

I hear ya, but I have zero problems running, poser, adobe, and wow all at the same time on my system. Now its just SL if I want to build a wall.

Not kewl.

I agree extensive testing the preview should be mandatory. Before releasing it on the public.

LL please fix this I'm not enjoying SL anymore the preformance is just awful.

The SL experience for me has deteriorated to almost not being able to use it at all, with no changes to my computer since joining. Actually, I now have 2GB of RAM rather then the 1GB I had when I first joined in June 2004. Since that time, the experience has steadily, and recently drastically, become worse.

My draw distance is set at 64 meters now in order to do anything.

Linden Labs' silent non-acknowledgement of these issues that are affecting more and more poeple is what is really driving me away though.

I joined in December, 2004 and upped my memory from 512 to 1.5GB. Otherwise, this post reflects my experience and attitude. I try to be patient, believe that the issues are being worked on, and keep hoping things will improve with each upgrade.

I only logged on today since the last update because I dreaded finding out that things weren't better, or maybe even worse. I'm not sure yet how my performance has been effected because after moving about a bit, I was logged out while teleporting.

Just to add my voice and for the record I am getting pretty much the same thing.

I also have a better attitude than introvert and some of the others and still have hope but on this upgrade I got decreased performance, not increased and just before I logged on for the first time I upgraded my memory from 768 to 1.25 Gigs, so this upgrade *should* have given me a slight boost at least judging from the way they were selling it last week.

It didn't :(

I have been getting worse performance since 1.6.

Update and Tip! Here's how to photograph your house. Even at 512 draw distance (which guarantees to freeze me before long), my porch lanterns still go away when I try to fit the whole house into the picture.

I tried that for a while - quite a long while actually, considering my computer - at various draw distances, up to the ultimate, trying to find where the lanterns might finally show up. They didn't.

But! What you do is this: You HIDE IN YOUR HOUSE. If you hide yourself near the smaller detail (in my case, the wall lanterns, which are less than a meter tall), then you can go as far away as you need to with that camera, and the details will still be there!

MORAL OF STORY: Never build anything too small to hide in! Or, er, something like that.

What is up with the sudden lag... the sudden crashing, the low FPS, slow rezzes or NO rezzes. Everyone I know and have discussed it with is having the same issues.

Ive updated my Vid Driver and even souped it up to no avail. Actually I know of several people who have done the same with no results and its NOT due to out of date user systems. You dont fly in at 20 or better FPS to only suddenly find yourself with 2-3 fps and ya havent even moved for NO REASON due to anything you've done and then have friends with the same issues to boot ALL of the sudden. This is obviously a SL issue and one that needs to be addressed and addressed SOON.

Im also having the issue with "clear cashe, as was mentioned above. It seems to help for a small while but then out of no where BOOM, back into the same crap.

One would think that with all the updates over all the BS bug (and yes there have been MANY of them since the last big Version came out) of late that SOMEONE would concentrate on something other than fixing misspelled words and scroll buttons. Yet we still face another in the morning. ::Boggles the mind what those people are doing::

This is getting past the point or rediculous. Theres something wrong with this world when you have to take your sex balls up while trying a process of elimination just to see why if there COULD possibly be a culprit (That was sarcasm incase ya didnt know :-) ).

ALL out of options here...................and I never had problems before other than pretty typcial ones.

Now where is a Linden???

Same story here. Several dissappearing items, right in front of my eyes. Multiple crashes per day/night. Theres also a bug while typing if your inventory window is open, computer will freeze up. FPS is suddenly ridiculous, I feel like I'm playing an atari game. Clothing never rezzing to full. The list goes on and on....

Sl crashes enough that I don't even notice it anymore.

I also have the music come on when making unrelated changes in the preferences, I don't use the preference cache clearing thing but the music comes on at times when I change my draw distance or other changes in preferences.

Yes, there does seem to be a new issue with sounds. I have found that while sounds used to be the first things to appear when logging in, now they are delayed - sometimes for quite a long time. Also streaming music doesn't appear at all, unless it is triggered by another event.

Odd bug, changing any preference with streaming audio enabled, toggles audio stream on. Selador are you even seeing the start/stop/volume control?

No Problems Here
02-01-2006 07:07
I feel I have to add my comment to this thread. I have a G5 iMac with 128 MB VRAM and 1.5 GB RAM and experience no problems at 96 m draw distance except in very crowded sims. I also have a G4 eMac with only 32 MB VRAM and a little less than 1 GB RAM that works fine, again with 96 m draw distance. I use average settings for all graphics parameters so I'm not setting anything at maximum. I'm running Mac OS X on both computers. I've never had a crash on either computer. I'm on Earthlink Cable which I consider the best around which may be part of the reason I'm not having any problems.

I'm relatively new, about 5 months old, and already addicted to SL. In fact, There are times that I'd just as soon stay here and never return to RL. heh

Wow, someone has finally given me an answer on why I continue to crash the entire computer for no apparent reason. Tested this last night and sure enough, it's crashing when I'm typing while inventory is open

On the clothes not rezzing correctly if at all bug, what I've been doing is putting something on, waiting a sec for it to sort of rez, then take it off, wait a sec, then put it back on and it's usually fully rezzed for me. Not the best solution, but better than logging out and logging back in to see what I'm wearing.

Also, the other bug I'm dealing with constantly is teleporting somewhere or logging in somewhere and not being able to see people. I see only their attachments. Bug fix is to activate a different group temporarily until everyone appears.

Need a "Post Your Bug Fixes" thread...but then, what we really need is for all these to be fixed so SL isn't a mass of gobbed together bug fixes and semi-workable performance. It's hard to remember all the bug fixes when they're all occurring at the same time. :(

Send the bugs in as a bug report, it's better information for the Lindens.

Also, thanks for the tip Sansarya! I have been logging off, I'll try taking it off and waiting then putting it on again. See if that works.

I'm setting here reading all this.. Oh you need to get a better graphics card.. blah blah .. This that.. lalala

I can travle the world of SL fine with a few minner fly "glitches" and I have a computer that runs with min. requirement. Mind you after an few hours in a populated place (club.. etc) I will be hit by lag and the likes as my poor ram and the likes suffer... But thats not the reason why I am here! I used to get around 5-6 fps in my start of sl and I was like ok that sounds reasonable for my computer. Then as updates came it went from 5-6 to like 10-14 and then it got down to 1-4 then back up to 10-14... Around and around we went eh?

Now anymore since the later updates my small gain over FPS went to wack. Where I could stand in my house (along with the damn textures that will not rez half the time.. OH SURE.. people will if they come around, but not my damn house! WTF!!) and get a whooping 13-15 fps.. Now whe 1.8 .. blah blah version here.. Came out I'm back to shit end 4-5 again. I know I need to upgrade my computer at one point.. I am a gamer myself... But what able people who arn't gamers? Who just only want play to second life and want to play this game with min. requirements? Where does that leave us? I swear soon I won't beable to handle SL anymore Q.Q

# Internet Connection*: Cable or DSL
# Operating System: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)

* OR Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4)

# Computer Processor: 800MHz Pentium III or Athlon, or better
# Computer Memory: 256MB or better
# Video/Graphics Card**: nVidia GeForce 2, GeForce 4mx, or better <---- I mean come on I swear running this at all min. settings in sl still don't help! So shape up SL and lindens or you will be losing people like me whos currently to poor 1st life to upgrade. Oh sure.. You could say sell your L$ .. but I'm poor there I verly scrape 656 a week for rent ><

This has been your friendly fox!
Sukia Edo ^_^
(P.S. I got a bit more ram than 256 to I have 384MB and a 868MHZ processor .. So I lied I'm a bit better than the listed min req ... BUT STILL!)

The funny thing is my friend I can make other games that have higher min req work on my computer better than I can make sl! I'm not joshing you folks one bit. So there must be something wrong with sl or I'm being paronid and all these damn problems people are having and I am having is in my head!
