Not only that, i have a 256mb card which worked fine till this "fix" now the max i get is 128 every time i move my fps hits its boots CPU: 0.13 micron Intel Pentium 4 (2700 Mhz) Memory: 512 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Build 2600) OpenGL Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL Renderer: GeForce FX 5200/AGP/SSE2 OpenGL Version: 2.0.1 and as ever checking AGP accelleration slows me further

From: Soleil Mirabeau I have a 512MB vid card, it can only be set to 256! thanks. I'm having the same problem. The new patch does not fix this problem. I am used to running at 512 and I notice a signifigant difference in preformance now. Also I have crashed a few times which rarely happens before this latest patch/update. Also took me a while to find others with this same problem in the threads anyway we can sticky this thread. Please patch us 512mb geforce users cards too Cat

Having that 512MB setting isn't going to make a difference at all, the MOST anyone has seen it use was 128MB of ram, and thats really trying, so until the Lindens allow for more video memory to be used this wont do anything.

I beg to disagree. With the most recent patch I was able to again select (although not recommended) my full 256 of Vram. My FPS went up by 30.

I have a 512m 6800 Ultra and I can select my full 512. I have watched memory usage and performance and to be frank, I have yet to see my card use more than 120megs. I can turn it down to 128m and it will have absolutely no effect. I start loseing performance at 64meg. I do have lots and lots of system memory and that may be a factor. If you have a laptop with an intigrated Nvidia based card, the memory may be shared with system memory and that is factored into the available settings.
Things to try:
Completely remove and reinstall SL from the Downloads web site. This cures many ills. Be sure to turn off anything Norton's as it and SL sometimes don't play nice.
Reinstall your Nvidia drivers. I have an annoying error message that pops up whenever I update SL and I can only cure it by reinstalling the drivers over a fresh install of SL.

Remember that new setting is based on Video RAM and system RAM..
so if you have a 512 Video, but only 256 of ram it will be lower then 512..
* New "recommended" Graphics Card Memory setting displayed for some system configurations ** Graphics Memory Size is determined by two things: *** The amount of memory your graphics card has (VRAM) *** The amount of system memory you have (RAM) ** A system that has lots of VRAM but little RAM, we will recommend a lower setting than your actual VRAM to improve performance: *** For a machine with 256MB VRAM and 256MB RAM, the recommended Graphics Card Memory setting is 128MB

above it was stated with a 256mb video card and 512mb of sysetm ram
so where does that fall, are they saying to use 256megs of video ram you need a gigabit or are they saying that 512mb isnt worth more than 256mb? i dont understand the ratio

When you say select are you saying you actualy got it above 128MB in use? or just have the option? Like I said I havent seen anyone go beyond that big for CURRENT use, not just the option. And if you are please tell me where I can go to test this.
