Signed. We really need a better business bureau, or an ebay style ratings system.
I just don't understand people like this. If you buy a plot of land and the seller tells you it was a mistake, or even that they changed their mind, even if the reason seems ridiculous, any decent person would give the land back and walk away. End of story. Anyone who would refuse is the kind of selfish prick that we could do without.

Upon buying the land they may be forced into a higher tier bracket, and thats something they can't reverse. Any decent person would cover that tier loss if they wanted to get their own mistake taken back.

From: Siobhan Taylor Just cos we can't name names here makes little difference. There are other forums, and many of us have blogs. I can agree to not see names smeared across the official forums That could add up to slander suits or some other lawyer bullshit. That would for a mess for LL. The problem is, only all residents read the forums, or other SL web resources. I dunno. I guess I just really wish we had a way to see a person's reputation in a manner that means something. I used to play a game called Clanlord, and it had a GREAT reputation system called Karma. If someone did something deserving of reward, fellow players could assign a point of good karma. If someone was a schmuck, players could assign a negative point of karma. Players would each generate a point of karma to spend on other residents... I forget the rate in CL, but it was something like 1 point to spend every 15 or 30 minutes. These points only generated while the player was online, and there was no 'spending bank' to build up a reserve of points. A player's Karma rating was positive or negative depending on their interactions with other players. Ratings would last, but would also roll off with time. I remember it taking a few months for a rare negative point to go away. If you had overall goood karma, your name appeared regular. If you had more negative karma than good, your name was red, and other players knew to question your actions. Anyway... that would be an in-world immediately viewable statistic that would mean other residents could know who to be wary of, without having to name names. -Ghoti

Signed. If LL isn't going to do anything about all these scammers and thieves, at the very least they should quit protecting them.

Tier expense of the land scammers should be a business expense on their part not on the part of someone who made a mistake. In many instances I have heard of and read bout in these forums, residents didn't even have time to realize their mistake.

In many instances I have heard of and read bout in these forums, residents didn't even have time to realize their mistake. They bought land they found legitimately for sale. The only people to blame are those who fail to read the plain as day warning when setting land to sale. 'You have set the land to sell for 1 linden dollar. Anyone may purchase this parcel. Proceed?' All they have to do is pay attention and say no. People who legitimately buy land priced low should not suffer, and the teir should be covered for them.

From: Jonas Pierterson Any decent person would cover that tier loss if they wanted to get their own mistake taken back. I agree with that in cases where a mistake isn't obvious. But... when the land is sold for $0 or $1 then it's completely obvious to anyone that the seller goofed. A reasonable person would contact the seller to see if it was a mistake before buying and to give them the chance to correct it.

From: Jonas Pierterson And if they forgot to do that, just like the seller forgot to double check? Oh please. How do you forget to immediately contact the seller if you suspect they made a mistake? If it were me and I had the room in my tier, I'd buy the land to make sure a less honest person couldn't buy it, and then immediately contact the seller to let them know of their goof and set the land to sell back to them (and only them). Being ethical isn't rocket science.

...and I've already made suggestions for changes to the selling UI in other threads. *Something* needs to be done
...and I wonder if it's time for LL to close the discussion forums & just leave those to third parties. Just leave these for LL announcements, questions, and maybe classifieds. There are some great third party forums -- time for the SL forums to go.
(Have I derailed this thread? I hope not -- hmm... maybe I should start some new topics? Then again, am I really saying anything new?)

Sorry folks, this thread breaks the forum guidelines and as such this evil ResMods gonna have to Lock it for Linden Review. - Private discussions – the forums are a public area for the Second Life community’s use. Individuals who have a dispute with each other have other channels of communication to discuss their differences or communicate – private messaging, IM within Second Life, or chatting within Second Life. Also, threads that are addressed to a single individual or group are inappropriate on the forums, this includes slander or "naming names" in a posts title, starting polls about a particular resident or group, etc
