Morality of Second Life Sex & Prostitution

*blinks* Wow... Umm.. wow. I got huffy because the guys stopped treating me as one of them, even though I could grunt and scratch with the best of them.

My husband does the cooking and I do the 'do-it-yourself' repairing around the house. I do the dishes and we split the laundry. He's the one that goes off to work, I stay home. I handle the finances, he puts the kiddo to bed. We just play to each other's strengths, which is what a partnership is.

Do I think prostitution is moral? Or sex in general? Only if everyone's consenting and not a minor. Beyond that, it's simply not my business.

Jonas, you were one of the people I was referring to. There're a couple others I had in mind from SL, and a few not from SL at all.

I will say its not for everyone though. I know another good couple, and they are together in SL (me and my fiance are not together in SL, and have no plans to be).

If partnered people did not, at least occasionally, take the escorts up on their offers, then they probably would stop soliciting them.

So relationship status, whether there's lots of "mushy" stuff in your profile or not, is irrelevant. If someone doesn't want to be solicited then perhaps they should state that explicitly in their profile, although I think it's unwise to expect (or require) that profiles be consulted before interacting with other residents.

Anyway, your partner can always say no. No harm done.

I was having an interesting discussion about first characters with my old guild, and amusingly a lot of people there stated that their first chars where sexy female ones (while they were guys real life).

Why? Cause they believed it got them more stuff and game currency (given these guys played UO to WoW).

So it wouldn't be a streach to say that many of the pro's in SL are infact men who are just trying to make a quick buck.

Which brings an interesting point, back when I played Lineage II. We had a chick join our guild. She was totally controlling etc. Got a lot of guys in trouble, as well as many guilds to dissolve. She also hanged out on the team speak sever for the guild (voice chat) and befriended many guys, got a ton of loot, and became one of the richest ppl in game (solely on her ability to Sex0r good).

We all thought she was a girl...

... years later the girl was exposed to be a dude (due to some bug with his account ::grins:: she had a lot of haters by then) ...

He came out clean, apparently he was using a voice changer software to pretend to be a girl. He also used some pics from the net to convince people he was a woman.. etc. Also he stated he was straight!

Who are these female gamers getting all the free loot? Damn, what am I doing wrong. I always play female toons, well except for the time I was a giant lizard-frog, and no one is offering me any goodies.

Maybe it's because I'm there to play hard and kick ass, not sexor. I've found that offering to duel is a perfect way to cut short a cyber come on. Or, if you're in a team and someone offers you class-specific loot, I always offer to pay or barter.

The only female toons I see acting like cyber sluts in mmorpgs (SL aside) often turn out to be guys. The real girls are too busy wreacking havoc and getting phat lewt to bother with that shit.

On the topic of prostitution and morality. I prostitute my talents 40 hours a week for more money than I would make on a street corner. If you can remove economic coercion, pimps, drugs, crime and disease from prostitution, then I see no problem with it. If a girl (or guy) wants to sell their bodies, why should I care - provided the society doesn't suffer from all the things I mentioned prior.

Would I patronize a prostitute? In the U.S. no - for all the reasons mentioned. I did spend a very pleasant hour with a lovely woman who spoke almost no English in Amsterdam a few years ago.

SL prostitution? Sorry, not the same animal. It's equivalant to phone sex at best. So is phone sex moral. Sure, unless the mob is running it.
