From: Willow Zander Is noone EVER happy.
Personally I miss comments, but then I never asked for it to be taken away.
The comments get taken away and a select few prolly start one rating in protest, or generally just to grief, now you want them to take that away too.
Why not take the WHOLE classifieds away? Infact the forums! TAKE THEM AWAY, i mean ppl post things I dont agree with ALL the time! and I always get my arm twisted and made to read them, NO, SRSLY.
Is anyone EVER going to be happy about the forums and how they are run/moderated/abused/gamed/whatthefuckeva, in short, NO, of course as soon as something changes its going to upset some, please others.
Maybe if the bitchin and moaning stopped and we just came to the forums to do what we came to do, either discuss, post an ad, look for new stuff or just plain fucking troll, everyone would be a damn sight fucking happier!
Its a shame new designers are getting put off by this, it truely is, but then its a shame they can't have feedback minus the drama either, meh. You are so cute when you're angry *hugz*

From: Barnesworth Anubis Im with Nimrod, Coco you spend a lot of time denouncing stuff, instead why not just suggest a better system? Its so negative and ineffective in trying to change things, rallying behind the destruction of something. It just comes off as whining and pouting. Why not be proactive and stop destroying things you dont like and try creating an altrenative first. Just a sugestion. You seem to be developing a bad reputation. For example I am not completly happy about no comments on the new products, so it was I, mischevious Barnesworth Anubis who proposed we use stars. Why? Because im enough of an adult to know the difference between being proactive and reactive. I saw a problem and came up with a solution instead of just demanding the old way back, or demanding my way (which would also have been reply and no bump). Maybe my star idea has back fired but I consider it a more progressive attempt then a thread called 'DOWN WITH STARS!" If you post "But Barnes! I have proposed this and that!" you have completly missed the meaning of this post and reread it. Look, Barney, I'm not the one who wanted the comments dropped in the first place. When they were, I suggested comment-but-no-bump. I call that PROACTIVE. I suggested this in the hotline. I got no answer. Torley started looking into it, as did others, and I found out what I could. I call that PROACTIVE. It was finally determined that it was probably something that would cost money. Then (stop me if I have said all this before - oh wait! I did say it all before, in this very thread!), people started abusing the stars. (Which I doubt had anything to do with the fact that you once suggested using the stars.) Now I'm suggesting that the (a) the stars be removed or (b) comment but no-bump or if both (a) and (b) are impossible, then we just go back to the way it was. I call that PROACTIVE. Is there something else you would rather I say, Barney? Or did you just want to say that I'm not as adult as you are, etc.? coco

Maybe you should say less, you spend more time worrying about about what SL is not and what it should be than what it is. I get tired of the forums being flooded with frivelous threads such as this one arguing moot points; yeah the new classifieds arent what they use to be, and you dont like that people are using the stars improperly. We know this. You and many others have made it VERY clear in MANY threads. But if its not the stars its going to be something else. So just get over it. This issue was dead weeks ago in my opinion. Move on.

I didn't really pay attention to the stars till it was brought up.. I post occasionally on the New Products when I have a new product.. (funny that)
I judge how popular that new product is by how many times the lil blue box in the top right in world goes KA-CHING.
People vote with their dollars - people make comments in feedback - thats how I judge my stuff in world, not because someone on the forums has a wild hair up their arse.
The forums are a tiny tiny selection of SL.. and lets face it - it's not SL's 'best foot forward' either. I totally ignore them - because they really don't mean squat.
If I put something out, get bugger all sales, and IM's saying 'THIS SUCKS' - then I'll stop and take notice..
Siggy.

But I read how people were abusing them. Then - the other day when I gave that girl five stars (since I couldn't comment to say how cute it was, like I used to) I realized I might have done her a disservice. Which it turns out that I did. And the same thing happened to me. And - judging by a quick scan of the classifieds - happens to a lot of people! (Interestingly, more in some forums than in others.) coco

I'm also uncomfortable with anonymous star systems, but we must accept that there are far too many of them in the universe to name and classify them all.

I more or less like the Classifieds as it is. The no bump feature allows me to post only once and not worry some guy dredging up some ad a few weeks old. It's fair that way in a sense. The no comment feature just gives me freedom not to go visit my ad. I don't have to reply and I can go along my merry little forum life, lurking the forums or doing what I have to do. The stars mean squat for me and I look at the products star or no stars. I don't particular care if the stars means my product is the bomb or it's diddly squat. (In fact I wasn't aware what the stars do until some folks made a hissy fit about it). After my negative experience with ratings, any form of ratings for me is to be taken with a bit of salt. Like Siggy, I base the popularity of my products by my profit or even just looking at my sales logs. If I wanted constructive feedback/criticism, I talk to my customers or people I trust to give me honest feedback. I don't go looking for a pat in the head, but when I do I'm still grateful but I don't necessarily look for it nor do I crave it. Bottomline is the Classifieds were reverted to a Free Classifieds, for folks who don't want to pay for in-game classifieds and for off-line shopper browsing. It'll be nice to probably see comments with no bump but i wont be using that feature often if at all. It's not really critical for me. Then again, this is just me.

I think the system shoulnt display stars until it has a high enough number of voters - a limit like 15 or more seems as though it would give a more accurate picture.
Or perhaps limit voting to people who've purchased the item? ==Chris

Just have one rating, 5 stars. Then no one gets their widdle feelings hurt. That way, people who just hand out 5 stars because they get some self-affirming buzz from it can stay happy and affirmed, just like Stuart Smalley. Sorry gotta run, I am watching Harrison Bergeron.

From: Introvert Petunia What are stars? Pumbaa: Timon, ever wonder what those sparkly dots are up there? Timon: Pumbaa, I don't wonder; I know. Pumbaa: Oh. What are they? Timon: They're fireflies. Fireflies that, uh... got stuck up on that big bluish-black thing. Pumbaa: Oh, gee. I always thought they were balls of gas burning billions of miles away. Timon: Pumbaa, with you, everything's gas. Hehehe. Ok, while Coco did seem interested in my activities since July, I don't want to hijack her thread (that would be rude!) Further discussion about my Solar System Movie can be found at the following thread started by Zapoteth Zaius: /108/07/78673/1.html

cocoanut,
i checked out your table angels. no offense but they are NOT five star items. on a rating system where five stars means it's awesome and one star means i would delete it from my inventory if i recieved it as a free item, your angels are definitely a one star.
thanks for bringing it to my attention. i went and rated it appropriately. it's still rated 3 stars which means there are quite a large number of people who think it is mediocre, and an equal number of people who like or dislike it. the people have spoken. your angels are 3 star mediocre content. just because you think you are gods gift to content doesn't mean the star system is broken.

Wu brings up a good point. What if someone genuinely thought it was worth one star? I mean, I'm not sure I'm a big fan of the mechanism, myself, but in this specific case, what if someone was just being honest?

I mean, I'm not sure I'm a big fan of the mechanism, myself, but in this specific case, what if someone was just being honest? I just wonder what are they rating... the picture? the model? my spelling? Somehow I doubt all the raters have bought the product and are commenting on some feature. Happiness is ignoring the stars and listening to the cash register for feedback. Oh, and doing what I do which is randomly contact customers and ask them how they liked it. TRUE happiness would be ignoring posts on dead horse topics, but it's a slow work day and I am not strong enough.
