Congrats to the people selected. Everybody on that list seems to embody the proper decorum and professionalism required to be a resident mod.

My condolences to those who really wanted this position but were passed up (myself included :( )

A bit of irony, though ... how many people on that list even knew they were up for consideration? How many knew that the forum moderator program even existed? Two out two people I contacted to congratulate had no idea what I was talking about.

I posted another thred about this right before the annoucment. I really don't understand why anybody would want to do this as a volunteer. The only reason I could think of is if someone is going to apply for a job RL that requires this kind of expierence.

Anyway, good luck to the new Mods.

Aimee -

They were probably selected by the Community Team without having volunteered...Just guessing here.

Yes exactly. I just wonder how many others who were selected were unaware of what was going on regarding this forum stuff. If they aren't paying attention to the forums...they may not know until somebody tells them :D

Good thing no one nominated me. I'd be like a kid with a 2m fresnel lens and a tiny anthill.

Here's my reply to being nominated:

From: someone
I appreciate the vote of confidence, but honestly, I don't envy that job in the slightest. I realize it isn't easy just have a few linden-moderators, but I don't think I can be as impartial and fair as you'd probably want me to be.

I respectfully decline. Please modify the announcement when you can about my status, it would help me greatly :)

Thanks, and good luck with the other volunteers.

Hope that helps clarify my position.

Nah. I didn't sign up on purpose. Declined the offer, too. Someone must have sent my name in anyway, though.

I just don't feel the need, honestly. While I enjoy browsing the forums, like hell if I plan to make it a commitment.

So... not me. Appreciate the offer, though! :)

Is it just me or does "ResMod" remind you of "Miniluv"? Then again, it would be hard to do a more capricious job that the current moderator.

I didn't volunteer but am happy to be selected. I think the forums are a great source of creativity for the community. Making an attempt to steer the forums in a positive direction like Torley does sounds fun to me.

As far as the Wrath of Satchmo, I'm pretty laid back. As long as you don't make fun of Michael Jackson or your name isn't Aimee, I'm looking the other way :)

Okay, Linden Lab being discretionary about policies is one thing; they own the platform.

It will be very, very interesting to see how "by the book" ResMods will have to be. I don't think people who aren't on LL's payroll (and hence, legally accountable for actions) should be allowed to use very much discretion when it comes to other residents, especially in a system that is being imposed on residents, for better or worse.

Which kind of scares me... I like having discresion in forum decisions. Does this mean a 100% zero-tolerance policy for things like swearing? How about borderline cases where it may not be clear if something qualifies as violating rules? Will they be referred to Lindens?

That's not going to cut it, Hiro. You're going to need to start a thread about this terrible travesty. A travesty certain to be reverse by the Supreme Court.

Yes. Play, puppets! Play! Amuse your masters with your drama.

This is a test, just a test...

Jeska, it might be a good idea to notify the customer you have "volunteered" to do your job for you before announcing that they are doing it. Just trying to be helpful...

I didn't volunteer either, however after much careful deliberation - I've tentatively accepted the position.

I'm opposed to the principle of granting linden-esque rights to residents - however the path of least harm from my point of view, is to accept the position, and moderate as fairly and transparently as possible.

In addition - I would rather moderate less, than more - if there is doubt, then it is clearly Jeska and the other Linden community team members' decision.

This shall be an interesting, and hopefully uneventful two weeks.

-Adam

I would also like to take this moment to congratulate Introvert Petunia who I have officially selected to be my significant other!!! <3 <3 *hugs Introvert*

Now, I know there has been a whole lot of people out there courting me, and they really really showed how much they care for me with all their love and affection. But I decided to go with Introvert who barely knows who I am and may not even like me!

/me rushes to look for the "drop current partner like a hot potato" button.

Aimee, did you ever know that you're my hero? You're everything I wish I could be; I could fly higher than an eagle; you are the purple wings above my wind. (Siggy and Leck, don't even think about "wind" jokes; this is serious stuph).

Huh. Maybe the Linden's mysterious selection plan can work after all.

*hops into Introvert's arms and is carried into the sunset* :D

Personally, I like the approach they took this time. Instead of coming out and saying "hey.. here's this new program we're going to explore and these are the folks who will be our testers" they actually opened it up to allow all of us the chance to nominate someone.

Of course, now that my name came up - I'll have to be n-n-n-nice.:D
