I enjoy using both SLBoutique and SLExchange.

I love how SLexchange keeps track of who all has looked at your things and bought them! I don't know what internet others have been using, but I find the site one of the most fun and well-set-up sites out there! And they DO care about the customers.

I enjoy using both shopping sites, and would recommend both to anyone.

What I won't enjoy is when they get GOM'ed.

...As for the poor history of slexchange.com, I was a very vocal supporter of the percieved injured party in that debacle at first but gradually realised that it wasn't quite as clear cut as it was being made out and that the injured party was really just playing to the crowd. As he still does, incidentally. It's something he does not appear to be able to let go of and needs to give the knife a further twist at every opportunity. So, you live and learn.
I basically agree with all your comments.

The reason I use SL Boutique is exactly it's simplicity and "small" feel. Now that I am trying to seriously sell stuff I actually considered using both (irrespective of the past drama on SL Exchange), but both times I went there to test it out, I was so frustrated with the interface that I was completely turned off from using it.

Aesthetics and clear organisation of ideas are realy BIG things with me and I spend a great deal of time in my RL job re-writing other peoples muddled ideas, re-working other peoples muddled interface designs and databases, and generally clarifying things.

I also feel the market is wide open for either one of these sites to excel, or for a third site to come up the middle with a winning formula that beats them both out.

SL Boutique just got bought out recently, so maybe a re-design is in the works.

A third site will appear and it will have an amazing advantage over those two - it will be Linden owned and run. It's coming and Reuben laid the first seeds of confirmation when he talking about LL currently developing a web-based financial transaction system.

Or, a crucial function that SLB and SLX depend upon for their operation could mysteriously "break" and no one will be able to fix it and thus the third party web catalog sites would be up a creek without an interface.

Not that this has been done before; this is purely hypothetical conjecture.

I personally use both SLB and SLX, and find they both fill their own niches.

SlB has a smaller overall inventory, but maintains are fairly easy to use interface, and seems to carry some more exclusive items.

SLX, on the other hand, has a larger inventory, and a powerful search function, but the interface contains some flaws and confusing elements.

Personally i didn't understand that comment. It's a matter of taking it into your inventory to remove your items from the site and putting it back out to get them re-listed. So, in fact, it's actually simpler than slboutique.com's as you don't even have to click :p

I was refurring to putting all the listings back 'on' - I once accidentally picked up my sle cube (After which I smacked my forehead good and hard), I distinctly remember going thru a tedious task of re-attaching all the items with their listings. This was a while ago tho so they may have changed it.

As for SLE vs. SLB, I use both. The only advantages SLE has that I see have already been stated, smaller commission, and more features. I would however like to state how much I enjoy those features. Being able to see the view/sell ratio, past sales for any particular item, and seeing the 'my slx window' with your totals for the day is nice. For a lazy & impaitent person these are dandy, lol.

With slb, you have to log in, go to my account, & account history. Another thing is, if you have more then one vendor and go to the sell page, the first vendor comes up. So if it's full, you'll always have to click on the one your needing with no way to have it load differently. Personally I'd like the vendor selling page to show the first vendor with less then 50 (50's the number slb recommends you fill your slb box to) objects in it, and in 'time added + decending' order. That's just my personal preferance, but having the ability to set that preferance would be nice :) Not to say I don't like SLB, I just wish it was a bit more seller friendly.

Only one more thing I'll go on about: Call me crazy.. but I like that SLE doesnt auto-send you the money. I like being able to go onto the site to see how much is in there and withdraw it when I'm ready. However it would be nice to have the option to auto deliver the money to you if thats what you like. Same with SLB - having the option to have it deliver or not auto deliver would be nifty.

Flipper did sell out to the Electric Sheep Company, but he is still in control of the site, and he does listen to customer recommendations.

I hope they get this cleared up soon.

It's interesting though when threads pop up about slexchange that invariably we get slboutique fanboi posts. slboutique seems like a well run site, but something about it just doesn't connect with consumers like slexchange does. I do 20 times the business at slexchange that I do at slboutique. Unless slexchange really implodes, I don't see people giving up much higher sales and lowers comissions to move to another site.

I decided not to use SLX before I even considered using SLBoutique.

Basically I had implicit trust of the 'public man' for SLX - and if you look into the history you'll see how they were fucked over.

I had no trouble recommending it based on one of the founders having in my opinion a spotless and unreproachable reputation - the (in my opinion) shady backdealings that left him locked out the buisness left me questioning the ethics of the people left behind, whom I didn't know from Adam anyways - and first impressions are a pretty big thing for me.

I'm not a fanboy of SLB - I just don't trust SLX

At this point, I'm beginning to suspect that there is going to be someone, somewhere on these forums that has an ax to grind about flagrant overuse of the arabic numeral "6".

As a buyer, I use both sites. I'd also have used use Gigas' secondserver.net if I'd ever found a vendor in order to link up my account, or gotten the linking object to work. But near as I can tell, there was some hoopla wrt Gigas immediately before I joined SL, and I never could get it working. (The site still exists, though ... and I just got it to work. Naturally. Weird. Until that happened, I'd assumed it was permanently broken.)

As a seller, I only use SL Exchange at present, but that's mostly due to laziness than to disliking SL Boutique. If my items sold more often, I'd have set it up long ago.

I looked at SLB..and find the exchange far better. Personal opinion I guess.
