Illegal Land Scanners At 600 Meters

I have been surveying the grid for several hours now, and have found numerous land scanners place at 600 meters above land not owned by the object owner.

Some of the sims are Mi 133,27,600 ... Acontia 163,232,600... Deltote 124,161,600

and there is much, much more.

These are the same scanners used on 16m plots on the grid, by a well known land scanner/baron.

The TOS forbids me to post the name of the avatars involved.

I have filed abuse reports, but I encourage everyone on the grid to check for objects on your land and set auto-return.

If you have an object you find suspicous, IM me and I will help you track it down and provide you with an accurate report so you may AR this person.

Would you say there is a small chance that it's the same set of scanners that we whined about last year?

Illegal land scanners?

I had the impression that LL were perfectly fine with it. They even removed public land listings from their website, giving land barons a need for land scanners to be competitive on the market.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

These are placed over land which is not owned by the object owner and the data is IM'd to another av.

Autoreturn is an all or nothing option which does not allow things belonging to other people which you want to have on your land to be maintained. Having people join your land group and have access to your holdings in order to leave a few items there is not the answer. The addition of land control tools which allow one to selectively eliminate objects from your land is an improvement but not automatic. Being able to ban the objects belonging to as well as an avatar is one option. A better soulution might be the ability to give permission to specific people in conjuction with autoreturn which would allow that function to be better utilized. This would require people to seek permission to place devices and allow for better transparency on this issue.

This issue is old. The current method of abuse reporting is time intensive on LL's part and apparently ineffective.

Maybe a totally naive question, but ... what can a land scanner scan for in the current market where there is no public land anymore? It can only detect ownership or changes of ownership, or am I getting something wrong?

Are we refferring to a certain... ahem.... fat baron, or a type or garden bedding, or a person of dual-ethnicity?

*sigh* More scanner nonsense. Time for a toner war.

Scanners use NULL_KEY for llGetLandOwnerAt(), which is basically using a wild card when no land owner is detected at a particular spot.

Land is sometimes abandoned when the previous owner quits, downgrades tier or someone buys land which is "pending" a tier upgrade and the purchase renegs.

Since the LindeX came online, people are less inclined to abandon land, because the resale of the land can be applied against tier, without using a third party money trader.

But, when land is released doesn't it go straight to Gov. Linden for auction? No ability to purchase before then?

I think there's a bit more to it than that:
From: blaze Spinnaker
...Cheap land gets picked up within 60 minutes. There are probably about 30 people who ping the land for sale list every hour....

How is this done? Isn't it with land scanners?

If I catch your drift correctly, the answer is no.

Alot does, usually because LL will resell the land at auction to recover tier and account fees.

Physically abandoned and land pending past the 24 hour period are released to the public.

Some land barons click the search button in "Find/Land Sales at regular intervals.

Oh good, another thing for LL to disclaim responsibility for. As they have said that security scripts that blast an avatar so hard that they crash the client are against the ToS but don't enforce it and that self-replicating scanners that suffuse the grid are okay, I think it is time to code up my Grid Spanning Avatar Bouncing Satellites that allow no player to stay in one place for more than three seconds.

Maybe Hamlet Linden will write a story about my free expression and I'll be famous. Grey Life® gets better by the day!

Thank you. The post I quoted threw out the number 30 land watchers which is not surprising given the increased size of sl. Have you seen an increase in the number of land scanners as well and are they of the type which were suggested to be a detractor to sim performance when this issue was previously presented?

What is the exact part of the TOS or CS that is being violated by placing a scripted object at that altitude?

Hell, when I'm looking for land I do it. Scanners bother me, especially on someone else's land; furious clicking we can all do. ;)
