Well, you juxtaposed a group that pretty much everybody hates against well.. everybody. It's bound to cause some turmoil.

Sorry.. It was meant to highlight how stupid the other thread was.. Didn't think we'd get all deep.. I haven't met anyone in world whose got a problem with furries.. But not being one I supposed people wouldn't tell me if they did..

I think SL is pretty acceptive of other groups than themselves, from what I've seen.. But again I don't have the experience..

Why not show up online and say it to our face, Siggy.

For a start I was posting that to Zap and his thread - who will take it as lighthearted as it was intended.. and I will gladly show up absolutely anywhere and speak exactly the same way in world as I do here about any subject at hand - gladly.

Ironically 'fuck your theory' refering to 'will make less furries' - strangely enough supporting them.

But if you wanna get your purple knickers in a twist - so be it.

Pretty much how I read it, too - to the OP. Made me laugh. Could be more clear, though - is why I use that little quote-star thing. ^

It happens. I'm not sure why everyone is getting so strung out about this, though. I kinda take "furries in SL" and this whole LOD thing as a moot point, but then, my av doesn't really have attachments.

Think the right thing to do would be for everyone to give Zap a break, have a nice cup of joe, and level the remainder of the stress on the Preview Grid. Ya?

Eh.. It was meant to be a lighthearted "taking the piss" thread.. As I found its predecessor hilarious.. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone or drudged up bad memories..

Seemed obvious from the outset, Zap, and though not intended to go in this direction, thread is none-the-less freakin' hilarious. :D

:D Part of the problem is not being used to not being targeted negatively!

A fuzzy hug to those who can see the word furry and not be reminded of anything negative, it can be pretty hard for many (I dare not say most!) furries to do this themselves. :o

Ps. I fully support this parody thread! :p

I met Cross Lament when I was young in world, hes high up on my list of the nicest and most selfless people in SL, ever since then I've thought of him whenever I see the word furry :D

You weren't here for the Something Awful invasions. If I were inclined to rampant hyperbole that makes light of the light of real people in horrible situations, I would compare it to Kristallnacht for Furries.

I wholeheartedly agree. The abashment and damage done during SomethingAwful's invasion against the furries of Second Life is directly on par with Kristallnacht, otherwise known as the Night of Broken Glass.

I couldn't of said it better myself.

Given your post history, I'm going to assume your attempt at sarcasm missed my comments about that comparison being "rampant hyperbole"...

Alright, so I jumped into the 1.8.2 preview Karen Linden posted (see announcements forum.) Here are the differences I noticed.

On a human avatar with a complex attachment: None
On a furry avatar I wore, and on others' furry avatars: None
On a 100% prim avatar (~140 prims): None
On a giant version of the 100% prim avatar: None

I zoomed out as far as possible and didn't notice anything amiss at all. I also cranked down the FOV at maximum distance so that I could see the "telescope" view (ctrl+8, 9, and 0) and all the prims were there as far as I could tell.

I didn't test it on a tiny av but I'd lay odds those look fine as well.

I just tried it myself and found that in a club with about 20 avatars dancing and the avatar detail slider at 50% I couldn't see any difference. Set one click to the left though caused the people farthest from me to lose their prim attachments, usually hair, and it would hover near them as they danced. All the way to the left (0%) and I saw a lot of bald dancers and the two dragons there lost everything but heads and wings and these missing parts would hover strangely. Didn't seem to affect those not dancing. I did send in a bug report.

This is about my experience as well, however I do have a question that I couldn't determine from testing...

Is one's own avatar ever subject to culling, I wonder, if you zoom out far enough?

I did wonder about that but I dunno. If I had to hazard a guess I'd say no.

I should probably mention I did this on max detail. Obviously this means my results aren't valid for anyone who runs below max, but I didn't think of it at the time. I can't stand what lower levels do to anything with curves in it. If avatars get wierd on people who have to play on 800MHz laptops and such, but they get to play faster than 2FPS as a result, I'm all for it. Let them trade FPS for quality if they want.
