OK you can be Gooshie, I totally get to be Al though! :D

Oh and does this mean that Torley's new motto will soon be:
Teleporting from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next teleport will be the teleport home.

What'll really be fun is when we start organising things like Club Crawls (redundent, I know) or massive raids is going to be that teleport function. :D I'd love to rig up a way to TP a small swat team in a 40-m radius around a building :D

Here's some of the locations I have in my nav computer, minus the global coordinates:

ABZB|Busy Ben's|Oak Grove
CABO|Abbotts Aerodrome|Abbotts
AKAZ|Kazenojin Air Station|Gray
AGRF|Gray Field RWY18|Gray
UPH5|Phase 5 (RWY 01)|Caldbeck
AMZN|Amazon Nations (RWY 18)|Freelon
PMIR|Miru Airport|Miru

I have a small heliport in Dusun. Hangar, single large helipad, and a small unfinished dock. look for the red & blue hangar across from Roxi's place on the southern short of Dusun's central island. People're free to land if they wish, but I'll probably return aircraft if I come upon 'em with no-one around.

Another New Airport- Oakmyst International Airport
01-30-2006 18:15
There is now an airport at Phyllira, on the North Continent. It is the Oakmyst International Airport. Its has two parallel runways with public parking and hange space (well for as long as you are visiting). Third runway is fine for touch and goes but is mostly used by Oakmyst Members, there is no parking availble up there but you can still use it. It also sports at least 3 dual helipads and one docking port for airships. Its roughly 300m up in the air and can be reached by ground using the teleporter near the log cabin community center.

This is my first attempt at an airport I think it came out ok. The hangers off of runway 18/36 are privately held. Soon we will be opening up vendor opportunities in the transperant blue buildings and the solid blue ones are going to be rental apartments for commuters. I welcome any suggestions, ideas and comments, but try not to beat me up too bad. Anyway please enjoy Oakmyst International Airport (OIA). I hope to have more signs and the airport office open soon. Thanks, Katy

p.s. I will try to get corridantes or a link here soon. Can be found by looking up Oakmyst in Find...Or just lookup my profile..the airport is on Phyllira aka Oakmyst I. We are a friendly bunch come over and say hi, tell them I sent you...LOL. ( Lots to do at Phyllira and Polkadot...aka Oakmyst I and II...all rides and games free.)

Thanks for the updates! I've updated the list above and the autopilot module of my current plane project. My compliments to all of the recent additions to the list for being excellent builds.

Furnation's airstrip just moved...
01-31-2006 11:32
The Furnation airstrip previously on Furnation Vista has moved to the diagonally opposite corner of the island... which is now 6 sims large, getting big enough for meaningful flight...

Hey, whatever happened to the strip at Pimushe Pines? Was one of my more fave natural spaces in SL.

Sorry, we moved to Tavarua once I realized that renting land in a private sim where we can terraform and rearrange to our heart's content was a better option than constantly buying over-priced mainland land and then reselling it for less than 1/3 what was paid for it when we wanted a change.

Come see our 'new' (well, 7 months old now) home at Fhtagn Point (in Tavarua at 64,64 give or take a meter). We rent that entire 1/4 sim and most of it is natural area.

The Lupinia International Airport, a skybox above the Republic of Lupinia parcel (in the center of Kekekabic) has a public-use airstrip and helipad, with particle-strobe runway lights. It's at about 220 meters up, low enough to fly up to unaided from the ground. The lower level of the skybox features shopping and offices.

If anyone needs hosting, let me know, but I'd happily host a SLmaps API with landing sites.

Okie doke. Added the FurNation and Lupinia entries to the list. Unfortunately, I can't add the Furnation entry to my autopilot database, since it isn't accessible from mainland sims (via p2p flight). Thanks for the heads-up!

Huns, can you tell us more about what you're thinking here? I'm far less familiar with RL aviation than you are. =)

Neat website, that. Thanks, Jillian! I wonder how something like that would take shape inworld, and how it could be useful. Currently I'm only using the names and coordinates to feed into an autopilot subroutine, but I've got this itchy feeling that I'm missing the bigger value. It'd be awesome to be able to hit a button on the HUD that says "Nearest airport" then get a particle beacon (or whatever) guiding your plane there. With a good bit of extra work, I suppose that runway vectors could be added for automated takeoff and landing at each place, a la the Aerodrome scheduled flights.

As the list gets bigger, I imagine that maintaining it will become more cumbersome. Parcel movement and attrition can happen so rapidly here.

Felix, whenever I see your name, it reminds me of the movie "Gladiator" since the main character is a former commander of the Felix legions (IIRC). Good times.

The list of airports, coordinates, and tarmac types (runway, airstrip, helipad) is earlier in this thread. Note that the list now includes non-main grid runways (i.e., FurNation). If folks want to send along ICAO-style 4 letter airport designations, I'll add those into the list. I see Huns has already begun doing so.

In other aviation news, none other than Ardith Mifflin herself has rejoined SL, which is great for the community at large, but bad for me because she can out-airplane-build me any day of the week.

Cool, can't believe I missed it. Thanks for compiling this, neat idea!

Lupinia International can use the abbreviation LUPI, I suppose, or just LUP if three letters is acceptable.

I will have to get the complete cords when I get home from work ^..^

Sim is Midge, about 700 meters up in parcel named Sit Happens Furniture and Runway 6 is a 4 level skyport. Runway runs North to South, best approach due to border cross induced lag is from the South as the border cross happens sooner giving you time to adjust speed, altitude and heading. We also have room for 4 helis or VTOL craft. The main hangar has been extended from the initial kit, plenty of room for short term parking. The ground level of that parcel also has a group of 5 helipads mounted to the roof of Sit Happens furniture. The skyport is also my home and main development center, nothing quite as cool as Abbotts but feel free to stop by anytime as we enjoy having company over and meeting people ^..^

I wanted to add, some of our neigbors have no entry to their parcel setup and a few have home security setups, not a problem if you intend on landing at the skyport but too low to the ground you may end up as a ping-pong ball...

Any other aircraft destinations have similar issues where neigbors have no entry setup, security scripts or rather tall buildings too close to the runway which can cause a problem for approach in airplanes? I know from experience how bad it is to be flying along, making the final approach, drop the landing gear, start a more rapid decent for touchdown and then....BAM! get ejected from the parcel or teleported home...and it was going to be a sweet and perfect landing too...

My runway runs north-south, and my neighbours to the south have a large ugly floating castle-thing that could impede approach (or, if nothing else, make the runway hard to see). However, if your altitude is high enough, it won't get in the way. I've made the landing from that direction before. Approach from the north is perfectly clear.

On an unrelated note, I'm putting together a website with some SL information, mind if I put this data on it? I'd have a listing of airports, with a page for each featuring detailed info, pictures, approach vectors, etc.

I like that idea ^..^

Feel free to IM me inworld for a tour or other info, this definatly sounds promising as with the introduction of HTML on a prim, I can see a Navigation type HUD attachment in the works with this type of data displayed. IMO, it would be cool to enter a sim, have any airport data automatically come up listing location, altitude, approach vectors and "touristy" type info such as shopping, dining and entertainment that may be provided at that particular destination. :D

Good point about HTML on a prim! Maybe I'll hold off on a few implementations with respect to this so as not to duplicate efforts when HTML comes along.

Edit: Ya, feel free to use this on a website.
