I have a rl job, but only August-May and Monday -Friday...yup I'm a teacher, currently a substitute teacher, but hopefully after this coming year..(starting 2007-200 I'll be gainfully employed for real with my own classroom. So, I'm off in the summer and when I don't have pressing issues like hair and nail appointments or the occasionally weekend travel, perhaps the grocery store or cleaning the house you will find me in SL.

I do customer support for a major government contractor and used to do a lot of manual data entry and manipulation but I've mostly automated it with a variety of programs I wrote that I jealously guard because nearly everyone else in my office is a total moron.

Special event producer and project manager, 20 years in the entertainment industry. Work from home and am very, very happy that SoCal has returned to normal temperatures!

I'm a QA tester for a small videogame publisher. Not much skill involved, and the pay's not great, but my boss was gracious enough to let me cut down to 3 days a week so that I can focus more time on creating and selling stuff in SL.

I am a registered nurse and I currently work in a women's correctional facility. The pay is better in a maximum security prison than it is in the hospitals here AND the best part is, customer service isn't a priority.

From: Burke Prefect I just wanted to see who here is actually gainfully employed, and such isn't whining about the grid being down. Out of morbig curiosity. I happen to have a gig as tech support "Have you tried turning it off then on again?" At work, on break. Tier II tech support. Woot for no more first level! And man... people who complain about SL going down dunno what REAL downtime is.

I was a Network Engineer for several years doing lots of random work for clients. In the last few months I have switched to managing a group of 12 technical people who are focused on a couple specific vertical markets and occasionally end up doing technical stuff since in our company almost all managers are "working managers" rather than the single job management-only kind :^).

I'm a lead software developer for a media software company. Developing client software and backend server systems for both printed media companies, as well as broadcasting software for radio, tv and narrowcasting.
Unlike Pol's manly labour, it's a whimpy job, requiring me to sit in an office (or at home), staring at a computer screen for hours, while cursing.

I work for a huge mortgage company, customer service operations supervisor. Firewall hell here. Lucky to be able to even read the forums. Since our hrs are extended to serve our customer base, my hours are not the norm 9-5, but that's ok, who wants to be normal anyway.

Where I work we make the large circuit boards for the network servers, routers, and switches. We put them together and hope they work. Makes me wonder if LL gets their servers from us?

I'm a "quant" at a large bank (it's where physicists tend to go to make money after we get sick of academia). I develop mathematical models for measuring risk exposure so we can understand what the markets are doing and figure out new and exciting ways to make money off them. Since it's an intellectually taxing job, I read the forums for a mental break and don't feel too bad about it.

In R/L im am a licensed Journeyman Plumber, took the test a few years ago to get a pay raise, seems our company only would give raises depending on your license. What i basically do, is run 70 plus trucks and men hither and fro over a 150 mile radius city, and take care of customer concerns...so i guess youd say im the middle woman... and no they wont let me play SL at work either, dammit

I happen to have a gig as tech support "Have you tried turning it off then on again?" ME! Although I wouldnt call it "gainfully employed" being a 'Culinary Utensil/Mastication Surface Sanitization Engineer'... aka: Busboy. And then there's the occaisional "computer repair" job. $50 here & there. Oh well, it lets me pay the bills & head back to school soon for my MCSE-- and flirt with young ladies

I am a legal monkey. That means I sit in a small closet of an office and do the legal research and pleading drafts that make my boss a lot of money. This affords me a high speed internet connection and a lot of downtime as it is easy to forget about the guy in the closet, so I spend a lot of time doing computer work for other attorneys in the building and drafting contracts for a hopefully-soon-to-be-large corporate retreat/technology exhibition park. The pay sucks, but maybe someday I will get to meet Oprah.

i wouldnt call it gainfully employed, but im doing an ok gig working with obnoxuiously high powered automobile compentition audio systems ( you know when your playing with the good stuff when you need quarter inch thick cable and fuses as thick as dinnerforks on a 12v system)
its just a job after the place i worked for shut down (after 100 someodd years) lets me go back to school, pays the bills, and avoid SL during the majority of the downtimes heh
