I just wanted to see who here is actually gainfully employed, and such isn't whining about the grid being down. Out of morbig curiosity.

I happen to have a gig as tech support :D

Oh yes, my Player has a very good job, as a systems analyst. One nice aspect of my work is that I often have bits of free time here and there where I can take a break and surf the net, so I can post in the forums and to other on-line stuff during the day. :)

I don't log in to SL during my work day, except maybe on a lunch break. I'd never get any work done if I was also in-world... :D

Me! Me! I have a RL job! I run a business as a designer in an online world called Second Life. I am self employeed and support two kids on this income. I used to work doing the same exact thing for some big game companies, but i decided to be my own boss and have more fun. It's a wonderful gig, I might add.

Oh...and I have not once in 2 years complained about a downtime. An exploit or two, yes. But never the downtime necessary to tun such a wonderful world as I am employeed in. Thanks for your lovely oversimplification and stereotyping.

I'm a Multimedia Designer for a major US Medical School. I work with doctors/faculty to create educational software for medical students... how to read ECGs, how to interpret heart auscultation, that sorta thing.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

I was in the hotel and restaurant business for over 20 years.
In my twenties and thirties all I wanted to do was go water
skiing, and snow.
Over time I partied too hard, went to rehab, took some chemical dependency courses while studying 3D modeling and going to
AA meetings.

Now I own some land and receive some rental income.

I am trying to figure out how to supplement my income with
computer art in SL, RL or the Internet.

The real estate license is looking good also. ;)

Got a real job here, tech lead for online course development for a university.

Luckily, I was able to convince my department to buy a sim in SL so I am logged onto SL a lot more during the day these days but usually, I troll the forums during lunch hour while I eat at my desk.... sounds sad I know but it sure beats trying to take a walk in 100 degree plus weather.

I am the creator of an online education system and work from home. No complaints about downtime here, they are part of any client-based multi-user system. While my system gets updates constantly, the beauty of the web allows for transparency to my updates, except for the occasional rejigger of the database. Right now we have over 30,000 kids online struggling through what I assume is summer school. Me, I'm listening to the "Repo Man" commentary track.

The grid is down? :)

Tech support here too. The percentage of IT SL'ers is quite impressive.

I do research. Well, that's my job. I get paid to apply other skills but they hired me to do research. Research in what? One small area. Thankfully, that also allows me to do research in and educate myself about anything I please. All for a piddling low wage and an unfiltered (except by the NSA) internet connection.

I own a small corporation in the electronics industry (deep development stuff, not consumer), and occasionally do consulting in the electrical engineering field.

Absolutely flexible hours as I don't do the day-to-day, but when there is a crisis I need to drop everything and take care of it (rare but it happens).
