As suggested in another thread, should free accounts have a voice on the forum, or should they be silenced?

I think unverified accounts shouldn't be able to post. Consider it a perk of becoming verified.

Define 'free account' unverified user!

Someone that has no credit card details on file, someone who can not be verified, or someone that has entered credit card details and is verified but not paid any money yet, or just not premuim now or in the past?

Do you impose a lower limit on the amount of cash spent? I could easily spend 1 penny (UK) and I would then have paid some money, though I would not be a premium.

As I posted in another thread it is possible to be a premium user and have your "status" show as billing information on file.

A relative of mine just went premium after cashing in a years worth of her SL earnings. Never touched her CC with a charge. She shows as "on file" not as "Payment info used".

I think care should be taken when interpreting these new labels LL gave us.

i tend to disagree with not allowing free accounts post to forums.. How else would they know all that SL has to offer, and be converted to paid accounts. The forum is one of the places you can find answers to problems you may be having in second life, it is very resourceful for troubleshooting. I may agree to limited amount of posting to forum by free account holders, but total exclusion no that wouldnt be fair.. Keep in mind there is a such thing as Freedom of Speech.. and I have been both a paid and free account holder.

Why don't we all get as sanctimonious, condescending, elitist, and arrogant as possible?

I see it this way.. It's like voting in the U.S... If you don't vote, you have NO RIGHT to bitch about the President and his choices.

Here in SL.... If you do not pay for the services (you are getting them for free) then you have no right to bitch about them.

Now.. I do NOT mean anyone who is not a premium account. Anytime you Buy Lindens, you are paying for the service. This includes MOST of the residents out there, premium or not.

Basically, IMHO, most residents have a right to bitch :)

Freedom of speech does not apply in a privately owned forum. You have no freedom of speech here.

Actually, I'm changing my stance on this position. Maybe if we restrict who can read and post on the forums, we can save the unregistered folks from having to see what asses make up Second Life. Seriously guys, just because you waste your money on a chatroom doesn't make you better than anyone. Personally, I'm a starving student who doesn't even have a credit card, so yeah, I'm unverified. Could you pull your noses out of the air (or elsewhere) and just have fun? You don't need so subjugate people to make your own experience any better.

Seriously people. What is wrong with you?

If you really are a starving student, why don't you get a real job, or at least get back to your books and study for a change? So in the future you can get a real job. What wrong with you?

Oh Jonas Freedom of Speech does and should applied in any forum.. if not so then why have a forum at all if only one opinion matters then why dont we just let those that own the forum speak and we all just sit here and read what they have to say.. wouldnt that be a hoot. now i understand that the Freedom of Speech is limited and done with guidelines which we all should adhere to.. but to say just because one person can pay and another cant then we will only let those they pay speak is not cool .. But dang that is what we do in the Real World some time isnt it ..

I disagree. What about users such as myself who in the past did pay for a prem. account and/or have bought lindens? I for the longest time owned quite a bit of land and decided that one day it was not worth paying the almost $40.00/month (U.S.) just so I can have a fantasy house and land around it. So I canceled my prem. account and now just rent. So does this mean my opinion is valued any less?

There are lots of people who don't have a prem. account but still contribute money to LL. It is the people with the "no payment on file" that need to shut up. I do agree though that if you have not paid anything for a service, you have no right to bitch about it should something happen.

I'm just curious if I am considered when of the lower class citizens who should have no voice.

I recently quit playing a online game that I had played for 8 years (UO). Looking around for something to replace that, I stumbled upon SL, which due to the free account I decieded to try out.

Now since opening my "free" account, I have spent 40-50 dollars on Lindens buying these cool little gadets and clothes, however I see no advantage to opening a premium account.

Unless I am missing something, the only advantage a premium account offers is the ability to own land, which at this early point in my sl exsistance I have no desire to do.

Now just because I am not a landowner, and pay as I go, my voice (not that I have anything constructive to say yet) should be muffled?

Just curious

L. O. L. Just when I thought you people couldn't act any more retarded, you said that. I'll give you a hint: It's summer, we don't have school in the summer. I've worked my share of nasty jobs you wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. If you're an anti-intellectual, then you can continue to be an dick, that's fine with me. Obviously, I'm not starving, I was exaggerating, but I don't have disposable income like... some people... so before you get back on you high horse, just remember that you're already priviledged, and you don't need to keep showing off. But then, of course, you're an idiot, so I doubt anyone can be too hurt by the things you say.

Hmmm let me think now.............. OK so once we stop them posting shall will make them muted to all other residents nxt??? then perhaps make them invisible as they are only free accounts so as such cant contribute to society as weve taken other stuff away from them ....... Hell no lets just get a sim for the free accounts shut them all in .......

Jeeze people dont we have enuff of that rubbish in RL people are dying because people wanna be different to the have nots dont let SL have the same intolerance :(

What is the purpose of these forums? To create community and communication, or to bitch at Linden Labs. If it's the former, then I see no value in excluding people, and I see a great deal of loss in doing so.

If it's the latter, hmmm, I'm not sure why I'm here.

Linden Labs isn't compelled to give you a soapbox to harp on. I can kick your 'free speech' right out of my rl apartment too.

Lindens labs doesn't have to let people who have never given them a penny speak on the forums.. get over your holier than thou crusade because the LAW says Linden Labs doesn't have to even give you access to their site or game.

You get what you pay for.
