why are people against having kids around? personally i find kids have a refreshing outlook on life and an excitement for all things that i lost somewhere along the way. they are a reminder to appreciate the everyday and their naivete is often very entertaining.
so why is everyone in sl so against kids? is it because most SLers are just walking around with prim dongs and talkng boobs and are afraid to do the virtual nasty with an underager?
if so, maybe we can just flag them in their profile?

I don't know the laws in Canada, but here in the USA, not only can you do jail time for "seducing" or otherwise exposing minors to "adult material", our present administration has a bug up their ass about anything to do with "online pedophiles" and has already tried to get ISP's to hand over, or at least not delete, their users browsing history. And considers even pixels "child porn". This puts LL, and it's users, in a potentially dangerous situation.

I don't hate kids. I love mine. I just don't let them on the main grid (I don't let them browse indiscriminately on the internet, either -- I have restrictive sw installed on their machines). Unfortunately, now I can't let them on the Teen grid either. neko

I love kids, and that's the exact reason they shouldn't be on Second Life. SL is filled with lots of mature content and a LOT of questionable material (furry porn and gorean stuff, for instance). I can't speak for everyone, but if I was a mother and I walked into my kids room and I saw some of the things I know are on SL, I would probably flip. Some may even take it further (lawsuits, what not). Some of the kinds of people on SL, I would not want my child talking to. Sorry I also don't want SL to get into any legal battles. That's another reason why I dont want kids around. Just my 2 cents.

For no other reason than their own protection, this is a really stupid move by LL, ethics aside. I mean, if a pedo were trolling for victims, where is he going to go first? The "Teen Grid". Shouldn't there be a lock on that door??

I love my kidlets, but there're two out of the three that I wouldn't let on the grid until they were old enough to drink. Of course, I'm still not old enough to be on the grid myself.

I've always found this rather odd myself.
I'd like to see kids on the main grid, though obviously there should be off limit areas.

This wasn't a joke post. So your comment makes no sense in this context.

if so, maybe we can just flag them in their profile? We want to enjoy an adult world. Besides, eight teen and nine teen year olds are teenagers. They should be young enough for refreshing outlooks and naivete while being adult enough to handle the grown up stuff.

One case in which I wouldn't mind children being on SL is if the sims were properly zoned in suzh a way that minors could not be exposed to adult content. This isn't just a case of let teh land owners have teh access controls. It is quite possible to be in one parcel and gaze on a sex club, even without camera contortions. It would require several gradataions of LL-controlled (or private island) zoning rules. This could even allow children (ie under 12s) on, if it is done properly (clothes and attachments would probably have to be LL-approved before they could be worn in a U zone). Something like:
U (universal, all worn items require LL approval) T (teens only) T-PG (teens and adults only, setting for sims designated as bordering PG lands) PG (adults only, like the current PG setting) PG-M (adults only, PG rules, borders mature sims) M (adults only, anything goes)
Unfortunately, I suspect that building lands in such a way as to implement the above zoning rules would require some extreme changes to teh existing geography, so it probably wouldn't be implemented.

From: Star Sleestak We want to enjoy an adult world. Then why not turn off the PC and interact with adults of your choice in real life...why exclude a large portion of the population because you dont want to be around them or just are a control freak. What is with this egocentric attitude of exclusivity. If you dont want your kids in SL then take control and monitor their activity. If you as an adult cannot control yourself in a manner that is private and out of the sight of a minor even in sl. then thats your self control problem. Don't blame the kids for your lack of self control.

Today, while SecondLife was down, I was having a good RL conversation about this issue with my pal. You see in the US and certain other countries, if you are known to be involved in anything sexual with a teen (<1 you could get punished pretty harshly. The only issue is that now SecondLife anyone could be a teen. For example he mentioned the daughter of some king of Thentis is a teen. I checked her profile, and it's pretty bleek, mentions being a teenager, mentions ageplay and in her RL column mentions how her name was changed in game, which my friend says is not possible in SecondLife. I don't know why Linden Labs does not have people paid to monitor profiles and verify things that are obvious. The other problem I see is, or more generally a question I had was, what rules apply if the teen was not based in US? But somewhere else where it say 16 or 17 is legal age? Does the same laws in US apply ingame in SecondLife then?

that's some crazy urban legends. in some states the age of consent is 14. and i have yet to hear a prosecution over adults cybering underagers misrepresenting their age.
also, there is a lot worse stuff on the WWW. why are people so intent on protecting kids from SL and not the WWW?
why can't the solution simply be that parents who allow their kids on SL can just block them from accessing mature content? why can't prim dongers just keep their dicks in their inventory while they are in pg areas?
um if you are afraid to avsex someone underage, maybe stop being so promiscuous.

Yes because the servers are in the US. [/u] I see, in Japan, under article 177 of the penal code, the age of consent for sexual activites is 13. I can see how a japanese teenager might not feel at all wrong in doing stuff on SL cause of this reason. Anyways, how do I tell Linden Labs to check this person with their new age verification system mentioned on annoucement? I saw no buttons to report a person on the profile window.

If you want to interact with children then maybe you should turn off the PC and volunteer at a children's hospital. From: someone

Frankly, that's what the mature sims are for. So adults can get together and let their hair down. Must I control everything I do or say on a mature sim so I don't upset the kiddies?

um if you are afraid to avsex someone underage, maybe stop being so promiscuous. You don't watch MSNBC Dateline?! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10912603/ (one of my fav shows now, they set up a sting with an undercover agent pretending to be a teen, a pedo gets hooked, then comes over for sex... bang, the reporter confronts him on national tv and later he's arrested. So many sicko's you can't believe it). I think it's totally wrong for teens to be in SecondLife. They do have a walled segment of the game just for teens, but in adult SecondLife, I do not want teens around. Why even advocate this? I think even Candian laws are very clear with child/adult sex now.
