I'd like to add my voice of support to Cristiano. This was a very gutsy thing to do, and in his place, I don't know if I would have been able to do the same.
I hope that Linden Lab keeps in mind that Cristiano, and all people protesting the registration changes, absolutely has your best interests in mind. We disagree with what should be done with Second Life, but we all agree that we want it to live on and be prosperous. _____________________

One Word!
06-23-2006 10:22
The entire SLuniverse.com site, including Snapzilla, will be closed on June 23rd to coincide with the third anniversary of SL, in protest of the new changes to the registration process. For more info, see www.slpics.com, which has a detailed explanation of the reason for the temporary closure. No images sent to Snapzilla during the closure will be lost - they will be processed as normal, the site will just be unavailable for viewing. This is not to punish the users of the site, simply to protest on a day of high visibility for the site and SL in general. Excellent! One Love, One Word, One World _____________________

... A good deal of that discussion basically boils down to "Great, what the hell are they thinking?" Word about this has spread, and the vast majority of the response I am hearing is not positive. What are they thinking?? I've said it before and once again, say - Phillip does not know what's best for Second Life, and is laughable as a CEO. So much for all the bullshit about protecting minors. ![]() _____________________

What on earth is SLPD? Second Life Police Department, an SL group. For more info punch SLPD in as a search term in the Find dialog groups tab, and do a search for slpd in the forum search, and for police department in the forum search. _____________________

For more info punch SLPD in as a search term in the Find dialog groups tab, and do a search for slpd in the forum search, and for police department in the forum search. Yes, that is correct - we are an SL group However, please note that the current SLPD has NOTHING to do with various posts on the forums made earlier. There was a lot of bad stuff happening around old SLPD that was ran by someone else. Then I took it over and completly and utterly wiped out the old griefer group that it was. Yes, I'm saying that openly - SLPD used to be a griefer group but now things are under my command and I ain't letting anyone cause problems on my watch. So please disregard the flame wars which were caused earlier on forums by former SLPD chief. He is no longer in charge and no longer associated with us in any way. If you want to know more either visit our HQ in Tecta (see my picks or group description) or just ask me personally. I should have picked a diffrent name for the group to cut off from the past completly... _____________________

We can make pictures available on the web from within Second Life by sending a snapshot to email to sites such as Flickr, PhotoBucket, and ImageBucket.
The problem with doing so is that SL doesn't just send the screen capture, it sends a bunch of little files that make a frame around the picture. The idea is that this is a marketing tool, where we send images that show up a neat little framed pictures to people that we think might be interested in joining SL. Cris's site deals with this, ignoring the unwanted frame images and displaying only the screenshot one is concerned with. It would be a lot nicer if the send snapshot by email had an option that let us just send the screenshot, no borders, frames, or text. Then we could make good use of the common image hosting service's abilty to accept pictures via email. _____________________

Group Charter of SLPD Fox Hound The SLPD Fox Hound special ops unit - The SLPD Fox Hound special ops unit - we won't top from using force if necessary By force I assume you mean things forbidden by the TOS/CS? Force doesn't have to necesarilly have to violate TOS/CS. Fox Hound just like any other part of SLPD is bound to uphold TOS/CS, not violate it. You can consider Fox Hound to be the most roleplay-oriented part of SLPD. But you're right, I'll change that desc to make things more clear. Thanks for pointing it out _____________________

Excellent, Cristiano!
By the way, people can always take snapshots, and upload them to Snapzilla later, right? If, as Cow Hand has suggested, that it is either open the floodgates or say bye-bye to LL, well then, I would have to say, better that LL go bye-bye. Why? Because nothing should made be this easy for a minor to get hurt in. (Or for us to get hurt in by accidentally engaging with a minor.) coco _____________________

Way to make a statement, Cristiano. Props to you.
How long are you keeping Snapzilla/SLU offline for? I would personally suggest at least a week for maximum impact. |

I don't feel the users of the site should be punished for the actions of LL, that is not my intent. The timing with the anniversary today was important - leaving the site closed for a week would not increase the impact to LL, it would only alienate users of the site who are not responsible for LL's actions. _____________________

oh yeal right.... Not punishment... Yeal I get it. What is with the sarcasm, Magnum? Would you prefer that I just let images sent today get deleted instead? Seriously, please, by all means, tell me how I should have handled this. _____________________

Snapzilla is closed! Whatever will I do? It's all LINDEN LAB's fault! </sarcasm> I really think LL doesn't care if a website closes in 'Protest'. _____________________

I recently got a brief e-mail from Philip, stating the impact of the no-ID registration policy on griefing/abuse, and updated in the original entry (scroll down):

Siobhan Taylor, my take on the 4 horsemen of the SLApocalypso:
WAR - "Red, obviously." "No... BLUE you dolt!" *scuffle* Thread locked. DEATH - The passport to ThirdLife. PESTILENCE - clutter, bush signs, floating rotating for sale signs, grey goo FAMINE - "Teh LAG beast!" Cristiano- I'm not wild about the protests co-inciding with the birthday event... but I support you in this. The (undoubtedly) destructive denial of service attack done on the grid however is deplorable, whomever happens to be responsible for it. (And some how I suspect it is more likely an established citizen posing as a newbie responsible for it, hoping for a desirable response from Linden Lab.) -- Neither matter nor energy can be created or destroyed. Not so for drama. Perhaps it could fuel a perpetual motion machine. _____________________
