But, I have been unable to find anyone yet who has been a direct participant in age play, and only a small number of people who have seen it. So I am looking for people willing to share their stories with me.

maybe this should tell you something? perhaps its not really as big a deal as some people would like

If anyone actually DOES get in touch with you for this story, please include their SL names in the story ... so I know to avoid them like the plague. and ban them from my land.

Thanks.

You just became the first person ever banned from my lands and the second person I have ever muted. I am not even an age player! Intolerance like this is simply offensive.

So, instead, you're intollerant of people being intollerant.

Niiiiiice.

And I simply cannot tolerate anyone being intolerant of the intolerant!

On edit: I apologize, I should not have said "intolerant". I meant, "differently-tolerant".

For anyone who's an "age player" (or who knows some) with potential questions about the opening post:

a. Read title of thread
b. Read name of first person posting
c. Read reason for edited post
d. Look up some C|NET articles on Second Life (like the News.com article on homepage)
e. Respond to opening post author via PM or IM if interested (he's obviously having a hard time finding people)

He's probably talking to Robin Linden about it. I wouldn't be surprised if she posts about it in one of the Linden forums.

Imagine asking GM for approval before you ask a driver what he thinks of his Cadillac!

No, I imagine it's more akin to asking GM for approval before you ask a Cadillac owner "so... beat any kittens in that DeVille?"

Come again?

Why do you assume the worst?

If companies, the government or your grandma had the ability to control a story at whim, what use at all would the media be?

If I was a reporter (oh wait, I am) and I was working on a story about MMORPGs and Second Life, talking to someone who is active here would be invaluable. It wouldn't be much of a story without it. What I don't need is for a company to cherry-pick the best, most friendly, cosiest-to-the-company user for me to talk to.

Is that what you want from a story?

Believe me, I totally get why companies want to do this. And I totally get why it's a disservice to their customers and potential customers.

I'm taking it from LLAbs' point of view. I'm definitely for honest, integrity reporting. But consider that we're not exactly the... most sane forum community in the world. :) If an innocent bystander rolled into these forums they'd probably flee from the room tearing their eyes out. You have to understand SL/forum culture before you can barge in here looking for a story.

So in a way I support LLabs' trying to keep reporters out. On the other hand, it's a censorship issue on the broadest levels of free speech. Or something.

I dunno, I'm on the fence about it.

Hmm. I suppose s/he gets points for being honest about looking for the sensationalistic aspects of the subject to be reported on, instead of the usual journalistic tactic of treating the issue seriously when around the subjects, but then when the actual article is published playing up the extreme, "out of the ordinary", or otherwise "not normal" aspects for the sake of gaining eyeballs to sell to the advertisers.

I mean, really, out of over 100K members, any one particular kink is bound to be found somewhere, that doesn't necessarily make it statistically significant or otherwise representative of any "larger picture".

Age play Or AV Child Porn?
04-07-2006 23:38
I still wonder why they seem to talk about "age play"..

Anyway, just helped with pointing him to some interesting threads about "av child porn". Two weeks later it is still interesting to read all those opinions about it.

Perhaps because folks blowing a lot of smoke doesn't necessarily equal a fire.

Smoke detectors anyone?

Perhaps because folks blowing a lot of smoke doesn't necessarily equal a fire.

But you can choke in smoke...
I think its good to watch the smoke and prefend it in getting it a fire.
Now Lindenlab has installed a firestation (TOS), they gave everyone a smoke detector (Abuse reports) without bateries (AV Child porn is not Child Pornography). So even if we see smoke becomming a fire, Lindenlab cant/wont send its firebusters.

And come on! We all know its here, we never gave a damn about ppl wearing diapers (not sure if thats what they meant with "age play";). But when some of us raized the concern about 'avatar child porn' so many ppl jump up to defend it (more or less) that its obvious. We know its here and even 0.0001% is to much (but thats my personel opinion).
