we really did. Not sure whats happened to customer service since then. I barely remembered because back then, I had JUST gotten a premium and the compensation money was just enough to get my first real land after my first land, on top of the money I had saved to that point. Ah, happy memories of old SL circa early '05 ![]() |

Despair not! I'm sure SL will be up momentarily and then we need not worry until Wednesday, when they'll have it down for most of the business day then. You know, the regularly scheduled day.

STOP the weekly updates. I'm all for development, but when each new patch seems to create more downtime, then surely it makes sense to make them bi-weekly, or even monthly.
Personally, I don't get that much out of new camera angles and tear off menus. I WOULD love to see the much vaunted new physics engine, and would HAPPILY wait for updates to occur only for the MAJOR changes to the game. Yes, I'm going outside to play with my "RL avatar". No...altho I have a sim, I'm not too concerned about compensation. I accept that there are problems that go with development. BUT...a hell of a lot of angst could be circumvented from simply NOT introducing updates every damned week. |

You will not get a penny out of LL for the grid being down..
I've been here almost 2 years and I have NOT EVER seen this happen nor will it happen so this topic is a waste of time other then you guys get to complain about SL being down. Yes It's annoying.. Yes it's a pain in the back side.. I paid $195 USD for an island a month..does the downtime bug me? sometimes but it's also called having a REAL life..go for a walk..go to wal mart or something.. it's nice out..go for a swim ![]() _____________________

Shit Happens, live with it or change it but dont maon about it, and Compensation is not the answer, u forget LLs doesnt want the grid down for longer than needed as they need to make profit which while the grid is down they dont Yes they do, they are still making a profit as you call it. All premium users are still having $ removed from thier accounts for permium use and land tier. |

I think the updates should be stopped too, I can barely move most places already from the lag, and most of these new features are completely unecessary. The game is fun enough without fancy pie menus and floppy penises.
And all you people who say go out and get a real life, just shut up, you're here too. It's not nice outside, it's full of bugs, and greasy crackheads, and sunlight causes diseases. |

Ironically enough, while the Lindens are scrambling to fix this bug and open SL back up to it's citizens, they still found the time to charge my account for my classifieds.
I'm not sure compensation is the answer, but surely there must be a better way to build this mousetrap. Beta testing? Updates every 2 or 3 weeks? Perhaps too, the citizens should have a voice in these situations. Just a thought. ![]() |

Well if you have spare time and SL isnt working dont complain if you have a real life to go and do things in then Not saying this to you alone but if anyone is gonna sit and complain instead of going out and doing something simple for a matter of 3 hours to come back and log on ![]() Teh end moving along! _____________________

To all the nay sayers for compensation.
07-23-2006 08:01
Ok I have to speak here, how many of you people saying no to compensation are British? I know one for sure is. That person has complained to me about me saying it in the past too. I am just making a general observation here.
Here is a solid fact, Linden Labs has in their TOS a part speaking of compensation. However the way of compensation is outdated. Fact: People buy land and islands and pay rental fees for those islands which do directly fund linden labs. I myself own 2 islands. These islands and land parcels that we own, in many cases are a source of income, no matter how small the amount of income will be. Fact: Linden Labs has cut Dwell Bonus and the developer bonus that many used to either expand or to pay for their rental fees. So now we are actually paying for our lands, which if the grid is down, directly affects linden labs. If we cannot pay our bills, we leave Secondlife, Linden Labs loses that income, less money for them to make things better by getting better programming or what have you. Fact: Linden Labs has also messed up a great many scripts that are affecting sales and products throughout SL. This directly affects sales which now are diminished due to the down time. This means more people may leave secondlife, and they may have been staying had the downtime and script errors not happened. Musuko, you know for a fact if your signature product breaks because the script now does not function due to the update, you will lose money. In this time when the Lindens are trying get the value of the linden up, and they have been doing a pretty good job of raising the value from 330 to hover around 300L per dollar. If we cannot burn these linden dollars that we make, then linden labs own plan to raise the value of the linden will slow or even stop altogether, especially if people think that this is a sign of thigs to come, panic selling of lindens may occur thus inflation will happen as has been the case in the past. It is time for 2 things to take place. One, a reasonable compensation plan for premium members for downtime. Two, an admission by Linden Labs that they indeed messed up on the updates as of late and are not only working on fixes but also are changing the way in which updates are released to prevent such problems from happening again. |

http://secondlife.com/corporate/tos.php http://secondlife.com/corporate/billing.php I take what is stated where I bolded it to mean that as long as a Linden can access the grid then it is not shut down completely. Which of course means there will be no compensation ever. Nice of LL. Didn't they just contradict themselves in thier own tso. In ine they say not liable and no compensation and in the other if downtime meets these guidelines (which it never will, they see to that) then you can recive compensation. |

I think the saddest thing I have ever seen is that someone actually basis their real life financial stability off a game which is obviously not stable.. So therefor you are in dire need of this new game called Real Life. Lazy people don't need compensation. They need to get off their fat asses and get a real job. It is the middle of the summer. Go outside. Light is good and healthy for you. It's a computer game. I spend a great deal of time in SL as well. And I am a premium member. You pay 9.95USD a month.... Not 100USD a month unless you own a sim . And even then you are a moron for paying that much for a game anyhow. I say stop bitching. Get off your fat and lazy asses and go outside. Go tot he mall and look at new computer games even!!! And just because I am sick and twisted I will not be looking into this forum to review the replies to this. So no point in wasting your time replying to me
And for everyone who is out there spending their summer where summer belongs.. INTHE SUN!!!!: More power to you. *KIsssss* And Casey it#s TOS not TSO. Once again. Off the computer...... and go outside. |

This is ridiculous....in the last 7 days, i have lost count of the down time. LL conveniently never leaves the service down long enough to compensate according to their tos...Its off for 8 hours on for 1, on for 10 hours off for 5, etc...it getting old!!!!!Real Old. here we are on the weekend once again and no service....yeah upgrades are great, but it seems once the update is tweaked and working right which takes weeks apparently, LL comes out with another update....STOP IT!!!!!!How about you always leave a beta site for those crazy about updates and a site that may not have all the updates, but WORKS, for those who care about playing the game and running their SL buisness, which at his point im sure has taking a beating this week....Its time for the lip service to stop and the service i pay for to work...believe im not paying for lip service...go ob flamer ans brown nosers, putme in my place....but no matter what you say, paying members are getting shafted!!!!Big Time. Come on LL, stop being so damn tight and compensate those who make YOUR compensation possible!!! yia Rog ok tell you what, contact me inworld and i will pay you the 15Linden you have lost during this buisness killing service outage _____________________

I couldn't be bothered to read this whole thread but I completely agree with the OP. We do deserve compensation, now let's see. I pay $9.99 a month, that's $0.013875 per hour, the grid has been down for ~4 hours. That's $0.0555. zOMG! I want my 5 and a half cents, and I want it right now!! This is huge, if I don't get this money right away I'll never play SL AGAIN!!!@1#111onewonjuan111

I do have a life, as I can pay for these sims and their monthly costs, thus negating that part of your argument. I am military, thus I do more than you do on a daily basis. Obviously you have been reading this forum and will continue to do so to see if you sparked a reaction. Since you toomm time to write in this forum means you are doing what you told others to do, get outside in the sun. Nice double standard there don't you think? You know I really feel that unless you have something meaningful to say here, get lost and let the people that really want progress to speak here. You only exacerbate existing problems and continue to be a thor in the side of those that want to have fun. You are just as bad as a griefer on second life. You only flame people because you think its fun to attack others. |

Is it an american lifestyle to ask for compensation for every little sh*t that can happen to their precious life ? (yes, i'm assuming that most of the whiner in this kind of topic live in USA, shame on me) Speaking as a Born and raised American...YES it is! unfortunatly _____________________

Downtime Vs Compensation
07-23-2006 08:21
I pay for Premium account (in fact paid for a year upfront) plus tier monthly. I have two days off a week to relax and enjoy the service I pay for. Hmmmm was down all of Wednesday because of an "update" which screwed things up and broke scripits and made features that were just fine, hard to use. Now my other day off they are down for more maintence. Not to mention the widespread unaccounted for crashes (that were not happening before the update) during the few times I have amnaged to get in. This is getting really Really old. Having to deal with weekly updates that don't work because they are not tested far or long enough and then being down multiple times to fix it. That is not working hard for us, that is cramming out work that is sliphod and half assed. And for those talking about LL losing money during downtime...........hmmmmmm they are still getting full monthly premium and land tiers for that time.

They did compensate once long ago. The game was down for something like 13 hours and LL paid everyone that was logged in when it went down 1000L. Not everyone got the money just those that were logged in at the time.
Not long after that incident LL put the terms for compensation in the TOS. |

OMG!!! We'd all be RICH!!! Gimme back my money!!! Get real people.. GAWD Samm, not everyone in premium only pays $9.95 a month, btw get the price right before posting Samm, so therefore some of us actually do have money in this game. For those of you that think you can't make money in this game, here are a few prime examples, Anshe Chung has a thriving business that does make money in Secondlife. The creator of Slingo, the game created in secondlife, the creator was the first to reach 1,000,000 lindens, and the creator now has helped make that into a nintendo ds game along with a tv game show that is in the works. So yes you can make money here, yes people do pay more for the game than the $9.95 to play it Samm. |
