If you read this thread, this thread, this thread and/or this thread you will see why the new registration system is just plain stupid.

There are a group of people (don't know if they are affiliated) going around SL with store manager tags on, tping into various stores offering the customers that are attempting to shop there "Special Discounts" on items.

Now, I ar'd this, as did CJ it seems, when my alt was ripped off doing some detective work. But the point is, well, what IS the point, with them being able to go to the home page, create a new account for FREE with no registration checks, what is going to stop them now?

They can create a new alt, transfer over their ill gotten gains and carry on doing this.

PLEASE bring back some from of Identity checks or at least some kind of CAP on alts, I don't know how, we have all had our fun "replacing" ourselves with alts, but come on LL, this isn't on, you are opening to doors for a wide variety of crap like this to go down.

I am NEVER vocal about what I think is wrong with SL, not sure whether thats because no-one listens, or its just not worth the hassle trying to get something put right, but something has to change, it's becoming ridiculous now.

PM, IM or Mail me if you want details of the person that I am aware of scamming like this, or go HERE or over to SLUniverse

Just doing the daily lurki^H^H^H^H^H reading. Appears to be a typo in the link.

*Fixed*

Also, the registration changes go far beyond simple scams.

In addition to this and general griefers being able to make multiple accounts, the teen/main grid are pretty much one and the same due to the lack of any real restriction. While I wouldn't bother myself, adults can infiltrate the teen grid.... and vice versa.

In light of this, residents should be allowed the ability to IP and hostmask ban griefers (as presented in the past). It should be a function of simply banning an existing resident, if it isn't already. And registration restrictions should remain in place for the Teen Grid, if they have been removed as I've heard. That would at least stop adults from entering directly.

HA!

Sorry Candide and Thanks Jeffrey! I've corrected the link and you are right, I just think something needs to be done, unless it's just a matter of not giving a toss anymore.

Iunno anymore :(

I have created a box with the following text:

WARNING
There are a bunch of con artists going round Second Life pretending to work in stores, offering discounts, but selling fake or empty boxes.

If you are approached by anyone in this store claiming or appearing to work here - please DO NOT BUY FROM THEM as I have no staff.

which I have put in my store, as a cube or wall-mounting sign. My land is also set as auto-return after a short delay so people can't put stuff over them.

I have set them to anyone can copy, so if anyone would like to come and take one to put up in their store, you are more than welcome to do so.

...just...

MAN stuff like this chaps my ass.
This is ludicrous.

Very nice offer Lewis, TY. Didnt think about the autoreturn, I'm heading straight in to make sure its set on 1min.
Here's what I ended up doing in my shop:

I want to scream when I look at that picture. Big black signs everywhere. Lovely. :(

Glad to help my fellow residents, although I may not be as much at risk as many others because I am not a "big name, big traffic" store. Took me 5 minutes in Photoshop, and L$10 in an uploaded texture, so it's not like it was a massive task - but the potential rewards (of not losing sales, and having irritated customers thinking I ripped them off) are priceless.

But I do agree that it is very very sad that things are heading this way. The only way we can do anything is fight back - but it's a shame to have to waste valuable prim space.

The GALL of some people... GRRRRRRARRRRRRRR

The GAUL of some people...

?

This is appalling though. There is now completely no way to prevent somebody from using stores as con establishments, with this sort of trick, with invisible prims over vendors or however. Banning somebody from land means nothing; even LL banning them means pretty much nothing any more.

He's changed it since yesterday then, when it just made crude reference to male genitalia. Whether he was expressing his sexual persuasion or using it as a description of his own character I don't know. One or the other, if not both.

Well yesterday he was partnered, we approached said partner trying to get to the bottom of things and she claimed to have not known him long and be horrified at his actions, offered to pay the money back, but never actually did.

Just goes to show, you don't know even those you think you do, these days, eh?

It means only the good people will be banned - the people who would be mortified by being banned, but nonetheless, would respect the rule and would refuse to lower themselves to coming back anyway to a place that didn't want them.

I wonder if said partner knows that some of the pictures in the boxes he was selling show them engaged in extremely intimate activities ?

Oh good, more fraud for LL to claim "ain't their thing". Quite the metaverse Phil - sorta looks like Bangcock only with fewer real girls in cages for sale.

And vigilante groups lacking any real tools or access to data to be effective or fair, in the name of his notion that residents will increasingly come to resolve their own issues.

You know it is a bad idea, I know it is a bad idea, LL knows and doesn't care.

All they are thinking about is money and making the numbers of players higher.

How they are making money of alt acounts and greifers is begond me and they probably aren't.

Some claim LL isn't making any money, with ideas like this it isn't a suprise.

LL makes that claim but insist they will make money Real Soon Now. I think it is something like "yep, we lose money on each customer but make it up with volume" kind of voodoo thinking.

You could just put a notecard giver with a sensor... Give an explanatory notecard to eeryone who enters, and then add to a list so it only gives once a day rather than spamming. Then you only need one small sign by the door. You could also make your land no-script, I guess, which might help prevent customised fake titles from attachments... (might).

If by "volume" you mean the entire company, to one of the corporate media/entertanment giants, just as soon as population numbers hit the required level for them to be interested, I'd agree.
