I forgot to include being able to check people's transaction history. To understand what's happening, you need to follow the money.

So to sum it up, because of the severe damage to the Second Life social system caused by griefers, scammers, and other malfeasants, we need a public security force with all the powers needed to keep such wrong-doers under control. This organization will be appointed by Lindens and will have the power to suspend, to read chat logs and private chat in real time, to track people on the map and read the contents of people's inventories, to read people's transaction histories, and to permanently cancel accounts.

Where is the strong leader we need to step up to our defense?

No, no, no, no, no.

No.

....Just... No.

And a "strong leader to control us"?

I don't bloody think so.

A good reason for you to be the first to be banned by these powers. Live Help is overworked enough already without you paying people to harrass them.

Siobhan actually I had MY live help title on at the same time and only offered during times when there was no other activity so that it would NOT cause any 'over working'. I also accomplished my goal of encouraging people to be aware of a help feature that some of them were not previously aware of. Help a few people with some starting chash that will never see a stipend due to other policy changes. And increased their awareness of how the PVP issue is capable of effecting THEM raising their awareness.

If as a result *I* get suspended or punished in any manner then it SERVES MY ORIGINAL INTENT and is very worth some personal inconvienence. Taking that into consideration:

I agree with every aspect of every post you made in this thread. No volunteer working should have the power to suspend or ban. Its not our department and would solely encourage abuse. Though by the wording of the Original Posters various comments it seems even THEIR goal was to offer this idea sarcastically to create a little emotional uproar.

Along with the power to ban, to cancel accounts, to read chat logs and private chat in real time, the volunteer groups should also have the ability to track people on the map and read the contents of people's inventories.

There will be no controlling griefing without giving some people POWER to CONTROL US!

Where is the strong leader we need to step up to our defense?

Allow me to be the first resident to welcome you, Mr. President, to Second Life!

I've read there are a good handful of culturally and politically influential people inworld, but I really had no idea SL had made it onto the radar screen of the people at The Very Top.

If I may suggest, sir, it might be wise to put down your Pet Goat book and instead peruse something more along the lines of The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Mein Kampf, an overview of the theory of Fourth Generation Warfare, and even perhaps some speculative fiction such as Orwell's 1984. Others, I'm sure, can offer some more esoteric (or just plain better) recommendations.

Now, I'm no expert by a large stretch. However, I am of the belief that these works would help fill you in on the idea that if the past 3000 YEARS OF HUMAN HISTORY have taught us anything it's that anointing a strong charasmatic leader to lead a group of thugs smoting the bad guys while holding our hands telling us everything will be ok is...no damn good.

I'd offer more, but you're a busy guy. Plus, AT&T on hold for you on line 2. ;)

Yeah well, I'm sorry if I come across as a little hard here, but I've been doing this job for well near 3 years and it really, and I mean really insults me when some (relative) newbie comes along and starts whining about how hard it is. We have tools at our disposal now that we never dreamed of when I started.

In case you noticed (as you probably do) that I don't wear my Live Help tag much... well, it's because I don't get a lot of time in world lately and when I am in, I like to give as much time as possible to friends. I generally go active if I'm bored. That said, I ran building and orientation classes several times a week for over two years and occasional scripting classes too, though my method of programming doesn't really lend itself to teaching others.

To link another thread, cos I really don't wanna go there... Ever since Tat told me about it, I've used a HI Communicator while on the island... but that's because I wanted to help... and being forced to use it would result in me leaving the group, and as seen elsewhere, not just me...

You may not have ever heard of me before this thread, but talk to the people who taught you, or the people who taught them... we played our part and now we sit in silence.

It is pretty obvious these days, as also has been said elsewhere, that there's a new breed of Mentor (and instructor and LHer) in SL these days, one which isn't compatible with what I see as the role of a Mentor. I don't really mean to point a finger at anyone, but a few, yourself and Marv as examples, have made yourselves easy targets... not that I think that justifies it, it doesn't... but well... I may be an elf in SL, but in RL I'm vaguely human, and I'm ruled, like you, by emotion.

Sorry if I've caused you, or anyone else any offence, but it's the way I feel.

Again, sorry for going off topic... I just needed to get this off my chest once and for all.
