I wish I could argue with you here, Lewis... but I can't. You're damn right

But Lindens could still at least TRY to minimize the chance of losses, of SL being shut down. Even if only to protect their own goddamn business!

Remember, unless you own multiple islands worth of land, you and your opinion don't really matter.

No, it's not only the landowners that get heard. Why? Because the biggest land barons live off renting land to other residents (such as myself). Now imagine - these renters are gone, they leave. Land barons lose their profit so they tier down... essentially the same as if the land barons would leave. They are here to make a profit. Without people like me, you and everyone who voiced here - they won't make a profit

If and when such a lawsuit lands on LL's doormat, I'll be interested to see what sort of knock-on effect it will have within the SL community? Will the L$ plummet faster than gravitational accelleration? Will there be a panic rush to the door of established 'name' businesses closing up shop and cashing out?

I've already started liquidating my SL cash. The value of money not only depends on it's demand, but also the confidence in the economy. I don't see confidence in the SL economy improving any time soon.

Yeh, that's understandable, Marla. So far the L$ seems to be holding steady around the 330 mark. I'm not panicking yet. The day I see the likes of Luskwood pulling up all their vendors and shutting up shop is the day I start pulling out. Until then I'm staying put.

Talk to a curriencies person and they going to tell you there are ways of making money out of this as the Lindens are or going to support the L to stop it crashing. Free US$ to the smart ones.

There is a momentum in any venture and one can see clearly that 3 weeks ago this momentum started going backwards. No more benifit of the doubt, no more good will, no more trust, no more free flow of information.

From: Robin Linden
If we lose the sense of trust and openness among Second Life Residents, we will similarly, and surely, feel the pain. It does us no good to bring in more Residents, only to lose those who have become valued residents, advocates and architects of all that the world has become so far.

What reason does a "Valued Resident" have to trust Lindens anymore?

What openess has a "Valued Resident" seen recently?

The horse has fled the barn. Lets get it back rather than talk about designing a complex door. Shops are closing, Luna has empty spaces. Forums and other outside websites are now littered with negative postings that would scare any prospective "Valued Resident". Many a preimum account is closing. People do not report abuse cause the system is broke. Postings in Forums are ignored, deleted or brushed off. Is this openness and trust?

From: Robin Linden
1. There will be an icon on each Resident's profile which will show 3 states. The first state will equal Anonymous. This person has chosen not to give us any identifying information beyond the minimum required to create an account. The second state will indicate that we have some identifying information, but that it has not been verified. The third state will indicate that we have identifying information, and have verified it through a successful transaction.

A second phase of this effort will be the addition of LSL calls allowing you to access this information for your use so that a landowner, for example, could prohibit access to their parcel/estate based on level of identifying information available. Similarly, a merchant could make a decision about selling.

It has taken 17 days of prodding, EMails, Phone Calls, Votes, Bitching to get something that has just as many holes as the opening of the registration.

Robin does not address at all the two biggest issues of Children in the adult grid or Adults in the teen grid.

Should also include:
-Ban all un-verified accounts from all mature land.
-Add Mature/PG rating to skins and objects of a sexual/gambling nature
-Ban all mature Skins, Objects and any form of Gambeling from PG Land.
-Ensure that all adult Role Playing areas are in Mature areas.
-Police the PG areas to ensure that there is no Mature material anywhere
-Change the Account creation to be very explicit about age. Suspected Adults found in Teen Grid will be turned over to the FBI/Interpol to investigate. IP & MAC address, Time and log will be turned over to FBI/Interpol. (SL claims that it does this for people who bring down the grid)

Only 2 levels of Status are needed. Verified or not. The 3rd one about an account where creditcard was used is more for the internal use of SL. It is easily abused by people looking to spam only with those who spend/have lindens. "I am broke give me lindens?"

As to all the other goodies that the Lindens are promissing at some unknown date. They are all needed but if one can Re-Alt in 2 min then what good are most of them. We are still as land owners limiting our selves and others on our land. Lindens have put the work on us. Guard. Protect and be very very nervous.

Most important FIX the Abuse Reporting system. Instill confidence that something is being done and let the complaintant see that something is being done.

COMMUNICATION.
Tell us "Valued Residents" what is happening and why before not after. Answer all postings before they go elsewhere to rant or becomes the "Valued Residents" vs Lindens as it is now. It takes no effort at all to be polite and accept that mistakes were made. No one expects LindenLabs to be perfect and being humble and truthfull earns respect. Silence and rudeness breeds contempt.

In Japan, Taiwan, Korea or other country where client service is important the CEO would be making a formal appology. Most likely sending personal letters to each and every "Valued Resident" begging their forgiveness.

I for one am still showing up at the speaches and will be wearing my 1503 tshirt. Robin has not given any more hard concrete news as to what is going on. The gates are still open and Rome is still in flames.
