From: Ketra Saarinen REally? That's good to know, thank you. It's funny actually, I made it through about 90% of the posts before making my reply, then went back and saw the *next* post after the one I stopped at mentioned SHARPs (Forgot that was the term). Made me feel silly. I'll say this though, if other SHARPs are like my friend, there aren't many that I would rather have at my back. No sweat...but keep in mind, non- or anti-racist skins are not all SHARPs. Being a SHARP is a very specific subset of skinheads, and they tend to be pretty political. In the worst cases, SHARPs can be just as radical as boneheads. That being said, I'll hang out with a SHARP without much thought, and if they get radical I'll just ignore 'em. Boneheads, I won't have anything to do with. Skinhead isn't about politics, never has been. SHARP is a political group within the skinhead community. S

From: Ordinal Malaprop "Oi" is just a general exclamation, at least here in London. I'm not sure what the technical term for the role it plays is, but it's used when addressing someone - "oi, mate, got the time?" - like "hey". It's not particularly polite but it's not rude either.
There wasn't a band called "Oi", there was a style of music called "Oi", which apparently was taken from the song by the Cockney Rejects called "Oi! Oi! Oi!". There's nothing racist about the style either. The problem was that it was also latched onto by racist skins and got a bad reputation in the media because of it.
If someone is selling Skrewdriver t-shirts, that's one thing, but you absolutely cannot assume that the mere style of shaved head, big boots, loud fast stupid punk is racist, and the word "oi" is not racist in the slightest. ditto. Oi for england, Ordinal! Feri sells the boots and is a friend of mine. I assure you he is not a racist but he definitely is a punk. His shop specializing in punk clothing and boots and such. I was a NYC punk and lived in london on several occasions. What Ordinal described is how i know the word is used in the UK and I'm familiar with the style of music. It is used in the US among punks also to say hi. (ie: oi, how's it going?) It has nothing to do with hate. I wouldn't have his vendors in my store if that weren't crystal clear to me.

From: Luciftias Neurocam Doc Martens may have been good for many things, but they never managed to improve my mile times much. But how many ex-punks wore Nike Waffles besides me? They had good grip The strap between your legs could be more problematic, however.

But PLEASE can we have the distinction LMAO I suppose you haven't been paying much attention. We *have* been making a distinction, only the one we've been making is the *correct* one. Not the asshat one you're trying to make. Either that, or you have been paying attention and you're just an idiot. Equally possible I suppose. S

But PLEASE can we have the distinction LMAO Did you read any of the previous posts on this page?? If you did you would realize that being a traditional skin has nothing to do with race or religion, there are also SHARPs (Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice) they politically motivated subset. And then there are some who are racists, but they simply adopted the look later on and they are a small minority among skins who are idoits. You should make the distinction! Since people don't like being labled something they aren't, espically something so serious as being racist. While I'm not a skin, I used to know quite a few some traditional and some SHARPs.

From: Vares Solvang This was the part that made my blood run cold, and everyone seems to be overlooking the implications of this comment. Can you say witch hunt? Don't like the way someone looks? Put em on the list. Don't like what someone just said? Put em on the list. Don't like the house someone built on their property? Put em on the list. Don't like the way someone just looked at you? Put em on the list. Don't like......ect As a left wing, bleeding heart liberal, I would expect to be put on that list by someone within a day. Don't you know yet? Race does not exist in Second Life. How dare you think raceis an issue in Second Life! Race is only an issue for those of a minority culture, who are the REAL racists, as we all know (believe me, no longer worth fighting this. This has been established.)

Nice way of misrepresenting what I said. I stand by what I said - not, however, what you imply I said.
