What you said is:

To me, that implies you think it's fine for someone to resell free items in order to cover their expenses.

So, it's a matter of degree, is it? If a person is making L$20,000 per month reselling your free items, why do you care whether they're sold as a giant bundle or one at a time?

Repeating myself...

Waste of time.

Or perhaps when faced with an extreme case of your own example you are unable to logically support your gut-instinct repulsion to those who resell free items.

Either way, no big deal.

Sure if you're used to currencies like the dollar, euro etc... but what if you are from a country where 1 cent is something like a 1000 of your currency? Then it's not free, is it?

Do you mean, where 1 cent US is equal to what would comparitivly be $1000 US, in how long it would take to earn, standard of living etc?
I wonder if many people in third world countries have internet connection at home...LOL.

You forgot "for L$1".

Yes. If the degree is L$1, it is fine. If the degree is higher, it is not fine.

This is a well-known and widely accepted exception in SL that evolved out of a specific limitation in the client (and frankly, until this thread, I wasn't aware that the limitation no longer existed).

Or perhaps people dislike reductio ad absurdum being used to build straw man arguments?

You are attempting to connect the practice of reselling for a token amount for historical and service reasons to the practice of preying on newbie ignorance by reselling at commercial prices out of profit motives and a dearth of ethics. This is an unwarranted exaggeration of what was said as well as a misrepresentation of what was intended both by the poster as well as the people engaged in these respective practices.

Another reason some people may charge 1L$, think of Yadni's. He sells boxes of dozens upon dozens of items for 1L$ for the entire box and he has land tier and other expenses to pay for. Given the amount of items a person gets in a box, I think it's reasonable to charge 1L$ for it to help offset expenses.

True, but I'm sure Yandi profits more than what it costs for his land tier by selling the freebies of others.

With YadNi's Place and the Mantabian place (I think that how you spell it )? they advertise not all freebies ...

But when i go to a Store - or a desiner who are saying they are giving away freebees ,then when i get there , find out its not free it like from 1l -10l for this so called free bee --- I think about the Integerity of the person , and how honest they are ? Makes me feel that Hey! if they are going to be dishonest .. Then how much are they over changing for there stuff they make in the stores . I go around to see simular items Priced way less -- So thinking ok ! That designer has now made my black list and i won't Contuct or buy any of there Products .... Simplie as that ... Just to your rescearch just like with every thing else ....

Iwont buy a anything before this ... it's all about Honesty!

Got rip off ppl where ever you go !

V-girl

As mentioned before, charging 1 L$ can help track people that buy multiple freebies who then turn around and resell the freebies for 100s of L$ to unsuspecting people. I think 1/3 of a cent is worth that little bit extra protection/warning. The people getting rich arnt the ones selling freebies for 1 L$, its the people reselling freebies for 100s of L$ each. If you black list a designer that took the time to make a "freebie" and sell it for $1 and think they are dishonest, then I think YOU need to do more research and find out who the dishonest people really are.

I'm including L$1 items in SLBoutique.com's freebie list, because of the historical fact that previously to see the item in your account history and track sales, it had to cost an L$.

Also, if we go with L$300 == US$1, then...

YOU'RE COMPLAINING ABOUT 1/3 OF ONE BLIMY CENT, OR 1/6 OF A FRICKIN' UK POUND!

Think about that for a moment.

Welcome aboard, Elinea - but please check the search on the forums, you'll find many threads like these (and escorts) have already occurred and been beaten to death. :)

Regards,

-Flip

*sigh* It is because I have argued this so many times on these forums I am sick of the subject by now and bored with trying to explain to people who would rather stick to their own view. It's fine, see it any way you like and I will see it any way I like.

Thats possible, I don't know what his bank account reads like. The most important thing he does is get permission from people, the items in his junkyard are for the most part, given to him by the creators. (as in my case)

Another issue with selling "freebies" for L$1 is the difficulty that puts on people with no payment info on file. Forgetting about alts, griefers, kids, etc.. for the moment, you have people joining and wanting to check out what SL is all about before they spend any money on it. They get directed to a freebie location, but become frustrated because they still can't get anything (or very much) because they actually don't have even just 1 Linden.

The fact that both of my boredom threads (This one and the "Escort is a Prostitute" one) are still active brings a tear to my eye. ^_^
