Just FYI for any devLinden who might poke thier nose into this thread:
Experimenting with a prim that was failing to deliver an item lst night I discovered that where it simply will not deliver said item to any av's inventory (including my own), it successfully deposited that item into another object every time I tried. _____________________

Interesting, can I ask a question? I'll ask anyway: Did you try sending it to yourself again after the object-to-object worked perfectly? And how many tries and what percentage failure rate did you get? |

Where's Apotheus? You'd think he'd be crying the loudest. Might want to compare notes with him and find out why he isn't here .. SL Exchange has seen a noticeable increase in non-deliveries since 1.9, including the behavior Flipper mentioned where certain items are repeatedly undelivered. As a side note, you might also notice the same effect, but then if the recipient avatar moves to a different sim the problem might suddenly "fix" itself (haven't tested, but this was a reproducible problem in preview). Considering I bug reported various on/offline delivery problems in 1.9 preview and the tickets that were not fixed were subsequently closed, I just assume this is the new order of things. I agree with Khamon and Flipper that there should be a return code and/or event to notify LSL scripts of the status of llGiveInventory() calls. I also don't agree with inventory transfers being silently (to LSL) discarded in the event that the avatar is away, busy, or has their IMs capped. _____________________

Please see this thread and provide your feedback there. We know about it, we're on it, but we need more information. Thanks!

Any chance that, since there's no ETA, you folks write a llGiveInventory confirmation?

Interesting, can I ask a question? I'll ask anyway: Did you try sending it to yourself again after the object-to-object worked perfectly? And how many tries and what percentage failure rate did you get? There were no fewer than a dozen tries to send to myself, with 100% fail. Sending to a freind (in and out of the sim) about 8 times, 100% fail. And that was two questions. *whap* _____________________

Thanks for the info, Brent, I'll do what I can. Talk to Phoenix Linden - I provided him with a solid repro.
But I must admit I'm frustrated. For a LONG time now, a lot of people have been asking for an event in LSL triggered with a response from the ever-flaky llGiveInventory. Can we POSSIBLY got some kind of Linden comment on when something like that would be possible? Its LONG overdue because of LL's tendency to bork llGiveInventory. Why can't llGiveInventory be made to be as reliable as llGiveMoney?! I realize it might not be a "love project" or on the BIG LIST OF THINGS TO DO, but trust me, I'll give a lot of love - and a bottle of damn good scotch - to the Linden who makes this priority, well, an ACTUAL LL PRIORITY. Unfortunately, I think it *is* as reliable as llGiveMoney()... ![]() I've had only one llGiveMoney() failure in 15 months since SLBoutique has launched; llGiveInventory has been far less reliable. I think its because of the way its set up; each financial transaction seems to be a single row in a database table, with a source and a destination. There's no tracking of llGiveInventory in the database; it seems to simply fire a gun and pray it hits the target. Bad, bad, bad programming style, LL. ![]() _____________________

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE ALL CREATIONS, FIX THIS! And please, for the love of your lifeblood - the content creators, without which you'd have a barren world - make a message of the day that will stay up taking responsibility for this bug! I came across some newcomers in Ahern warning others to not use web-shopping sites as "SLExchange and SLBoutique are scams. They take money and don't deliver items." All three web sales sites have worked incredibly hard to build the trust necessary to get people to take the leap of faith and use us; the same goes for the world's best sellers. Its been an uphill battle to build our reputations, and now due to Linden Lab's bug, we're the ones being blamed. Please take the responsibility to help restore our credibility. Its getting ugly out there, and I'm not just talking about the lack of sleep due to the increased customer service load or the multiple times I've had to shut down all my "buy" links in the past week due to asset cluster issues. Thanks, -Flip _____________________

I have been requesting that "Stiffed" customers (pun intended) file a bug report. This has been happening with some regularity since 1.9.
Many customers have been gratious enough to do so. A few have gotten irrate and dont want to be bothered. However I have sufficient reason to believe there are many taking advantage of this and getting two items for the price of one. I certainly dont want to cause any ill will. But I think my fellow merchants should be aware of the fact that there are those that are "gaming" this bug. I choose to refund the $L as this would limit anyone taking advantage of this to one item. If they must lie to benefit...sobeit. Just a heads up SL DevTeam Please FIX THIS SOON! |

Fortunately, I'm lucky enough to have account histories on SLBoutique and can "test pass" an item from the site to reproduce the error. This allows me to verify that they're not trying to pull a scam. The amount of scammers I've found has been incredibly small, to be honest.
Getting back to Siggy's gumball policy, it seems that many aren't going to go to the trouble of a scam for something less than the price of a gumball. That said, I hope anyone who's had problems with SLBoutique in any way - deposits, deliveries, or anything - gets in touch so we can rectify the situation and help LL patch up these annoying bugs. Commerce, and Entertainment! w00t!

While this issue certainly impacts commerce within SL, it has also affected entertainment. The Trackers group is exploring the possibility of holding monthly grid-wide quests in SL, and our maiden voyage is turning into something reminiscent of the Titanic: things got off to an amazing start only to run into problems which left us no option but to shut down the event until these issues could be addressed in some way.
Our quests depend on scripts which use llGiveInventory to hand out the clues. If it fails, the quest participant is out of luck. We are also experiencing communications issues which maybe related to the agent presence problems Brent Linden mentioned. We are currently trying to work around these issues within our scripts, so we hope to get underway again, one way or another. You can read more about our event here, if you wish: /invalid_link.html _____________________
